INHERITANCE RIGHT FOR FEMALE CHILDREN.
In Nigeria, specifically the Igbo tribe female children has always been treated as second class citizens. From birth, your rights as a being is snatched from you because to them you are girl and have no sense of belonging. Women are seen as properties to their husbands who loses all forms of right once married. This greedy and wicked traditions has caused a lot of harm to people. A man who has just female children loses certain rights in the society. He can be murdered at anytime so as to pave way for his other male siblings to inherite his properties, not including the wife nor the female children. Many girl children has dropped out of school today because of this greedy traditions. After the death of a father, the male children gathered to share their fathers properties, excluding the female and leaving them to their fate.
This act has so much encouraged violence against women in Igbo tribe. Most of them are molested by their husbands who will always make statements like " you came to my life with nothing, I am feeding you and I paid your bride price. To him, the woman is just a property he bought, she can be treated any how. She can be beaten at any slitest provocation, she can be disgraced and pushed out at any given opportunity.

Few years ago, The supreme court of Nigeria ruled that discriminating female children from partaking in the sharing of their fathers properties is illegal. Still, most families are still practicing this greedy traditions and causing harm to the girl child. Just last year, a woman was murdered by her younger brother because she asked for her share from her father's wealth. This is just one out of the much harm done to women in Igbo land.
It is high time we stand up for our right and support the supreme court to abolish these wicked customs. Let's make the world to understand that all animals are equal, likewise all children are equal irrespective of their sex. Until this is done, women in Nigeria specifically the Igbo tribe will continue to undergo violence against their rights.

It is very sad what you say. Although some countries in the world have laws that protect women, there are still places where women have no rights, just as you say. And you are right, there is a need for supportive action from the government to protect women.

Even with the law is in place, it appears difficult to stop the barbaric practice by merely having a law. Awareness, education, and being vocal about it must come to the fore to combat such terrible practice.
Greed may be a powerful incentive to do wrong but somehow it must be replaced with common decency.
