Bible study of 6th January 2022
Want to appreciate God for his words. Today's teaching was about the atheist who believe that the bible is contradicting itself. For me, I understand that the word of God can not contradict itself. Though there backing is from Exodus 20:5. God is telling us not to bow down for idols nor worship them. This is because God is a jealous God. It said that God will be visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, even to their third and fourth generation. He is a God of equity. Whoever practice justice will reap justice. You practice evil, you reap evil. Ezekiel 18:20 says, the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither will the father bear that of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be for the righteous while the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon the wicked. In Exodus 20:5. I learnt that if your father is an idol worshiper and you refused to join him in such wickedness, then you will be justified. Even if you are his second generation. It is to everyone according to their deeds. Just like the case of the Nineveh's and soldom and Gomorrah. Both Land sinned against God. The result was different. God forgave the Nineveh's and punish the land of soldom and Gomorrah. The reason is because the Nineveh's had true repentance by turning back to God. While the land of soldom and Gomorrah did not adhere to the word of God. Another example is Adam. Adam sinned but his son Abel was not punished. So for the haters of God basing their argument with Exodus 20:5 is totally wrong. Visiting the iniquity of the father upon the son. Adam sinned but his son Abel was not punished. God's visiting means giving them chance for repentance. A child will not be affected by the evil of their parents if they refused to take part in evil doing. God visiting means salvation. Visiting the children even if their parents are evil.
I learnt that only if we can return to God, he will pardon us. Exodus 34:7. Proofs it. He is keeping mercies for thousands. Also forgiving iniquities and transgressions and sin. By no means clear the guilty. Visiting the iniquity of the father upon the son. From this portion of the bible, we can see the extent of his mercies. He is keeping mercies for thousands.
From today's teaching, it is clear that the bible cannot contradict itself. Yes God is preparing punishment for Evil doers but if they can humble themselves and return to God, He will keep mercies and forgive them.
