In the Mind of a Senior || Wishing the Holidays Were Longer
I only started my second semester in my final year at the university a few months ago at the conclusion of the 8-month strike, and I tell you, I have never felt as unenthusiastic as I did when we resumed. Fortunately, the holidays were upcoming, and they were going to be the break I would need as the semester went on.
When the holidays came and I traveled back home, in the bosom of my mother, I felt such a difference between when I stay in school all by myself and when I am at home, where I don't worry much about things like food. Oh, yes, that's right...food.
At home, I got to rest more, be with my parents and siblings, and be with some other loved ones as well; I met new faces in my environment; I worshiped at my home church again; and the list could go on, which is quite different from my lifestyle in school.
In school, I am what you might call a "bookworm." It's not that I love to read or anything, but that I just take my academics seriously, which includes reading regularly. Albeit, it has been very different for me this year.

I spent about two weeks at home doing the things I normally would do at home and everything else in between. And that really was something I had needed for a long time—some time to rest and do very different things.
I could have spent more time at home than I did (say, one more week or so), but for some reason, my kind supervisor requested that I come see him physically in his office at school earlier than normal. "Normal" would be after another week, as I had earlier planned.
However, resumption this year meant that it was time to face exams squarely and minimize distractions—two things that I am finding difficult to do because my plates have just gotten bigger, as has everything else on them in the last couple of weeks.And now, the holidays are over, and it's back to business (which would be school), whether I want it or not.
I wonder, though, if I really could make a wish that could grant me the holidays to go on and on, would I want to do that? And I know it's a little too late to be making wishes as Santa is back at the North Pole already, but imagine with me, will you?
Here's the thing: I love soft life. A life without too many worries and a life with a lot of money—I mean, who doesn't? So to just have that wish of mine granted and then have the holidays go on and on would be, well, a Christmas miracle for me. #pununintended
The problem, however, is that I don't have either of the two aforementioned fundamental ingredients for a soft life: no worries or money. And then I want to be chill when I haven't even made it in life? XD
Another aspect of it is that I am supposed to graduate from school in a couple of weeks. After 7 years, I want to use holidays to scatter my straight line? XD...hell no!

I do have a whole lot of work ahead of me, but then, who is going to do it all for me if not myself? The holidays were just sufficient for me to take some time to cool off. And so also, the change in environment added some ginger to my tea to refresh my mind.
My exams are starting in just under two weeks, and although they may be intense, I am glad that it's my final examination and I can finally bag the B. Eng. and move on to other things that I am interested in.
So, yeah, if I could make a wish to have the holidays go on and on, I wouldn't.

Welcome back to school bro, I think the holidays have helped you with more online exposure. It will now be challenging to resume school activists. But you have no choice but to complete your education and be fully active online.
Oh, yes. The holidays did help me with getting more exposed to online opportunities. And yeah, school is a bit challenging this period, but I have no choice than to complete it.

As an ex-university student, I can relate to the feelings you've expressed in this post. The holidays were definitely a much-needed break after a difficult semester. I too, enjoyed the change in environment, the rest and relaxation, the time with loved ones and the distraction-free environment of home. However, as the holidays come to an end and it's time to return back to school, I realize that I have a lot of work ahead of me (it always almost feels like rush hours). I have to face my exams and also preparing for graduation. As much as I would like to have the holidays go on and on, I know it's not realistic and ultimately, it is not what I want either. The holidays were sufficient to refresh my mind and give me the motivation I need to tackle the rest of the academic year. Overall, the post resonates with me and reminds me that life is a balance of working hard and taking care of oneself.
My man, you do get it.
In as much as the body and mind need rest, we cannot afford to always "be resting." We have to switch it up when we need to, whilst keeping in mind to know when to take breaks in-between work as well.

You are indirectly wishing for a longer holiday but the things ahead wouldn't just make those wishes come through.
Life at home is completely different from what happens in school and especially with the food, you can get to eat without lifting a finger in the kitchen.
A few weeks to graduation, I feel excited for you and I believe you won't allow anything to come between you and that special day. Wishing you success in your upcoming examination and project work.
Oh, yes. If only I could have had a longer time to rest, it would have been really nice. But man has to get back to work, whether I like it or not.

I'm excited to finally graduate. It has been a long journey so far. It'll be nice to move on to the next phase of life now.

I could never choose an extension of the break period over resuming school. Not like I love school or anything.
I'll just want to get through with schoolwork already and get the unending break - if that's even possible.

I really do need more rest, and although the little I had did help me rejuvenate to some extent, some more would go a long way. But I have to get back to work and continue with matter at hand.

Awww...I feel you. It's not easy to see loved ones again, spend only a short time with them, and then have to leave again. It's hard. But we just have to do what we have to do when we are due. We have to go back to business.

I will not lie, I cannot wait to finish from school finally and move on to other things. But I cannot fly, and I still have to write these exams and also pass well.

Because during the holidays I make more money so that is the reason why I love holidays than working days.

I have one certain goal as I am in school, and that is to graduate. However, the old adage, "What is worth doing at all is worth doing well," keeps me motivated to do everything I can to finish well.
I cannot say where I prefer to be. I cherish being with my family, and at the same time, I cherish my space, privacy, and time. So, I often like to shuffle between school and home to keep myself balanced.
