Discovering and Treating Developmental Disorder.

I was seeing a movie where a good-looking adult got married to a woman who always maltreated him and made him feel bad, she had him under her control so even while she cheated, she always came back home to talk him down and make him feel unworthy.

He was incapable of seeing whatever she was doing as something bad, as he continued to care for her from his goodwill, even though, his friends tried to make him see the reasons why he was been treated unjustly, but he never saw any of it as being bad. When he was eventually diagnosed, he was said to be affected by a developmental disorder.

The developmental disorder could last until adulthood but it starts in children, it is an impairment in the physical, cognitive, behavioral, or language of a child. This disability can be so severe that it affects everyday functioning, it usually lasts until adulthood as well.
This disability can take a serious toll on the intellectual, physical, and emotional growth of a child, some physical abilities like vision and mental abilities like the ability to learn could also become affected.

Anxiety disorders are usually characterized by inappropriate or excessive fear. Children who have anxiety disorders have clinical symptoms like; severe physiological anxiety symptoms, avoiding feared objects, and associated distress of impairment.

Children who have mental and developmental disorders are at a higher risk of being affected physically and mentally even in adulthood, it could also increase the chances of unemployment, contact with law enforcement agencies, and the need for disability support.

Most developmental disorders start even before a baby is born, but some can happen after the baby is born usually as a result of infections, injuries, or other associated factors like genetics, use of alcohol or substances during pregnancy, and exposure to a high level of environmental toxins.

Developmental disorder is a general term but the types of disorders are divided into; Hearing loss, intellectual disability, ADHD, Autism spectrum disorder, autism spectrum disorder, learning disability, and vision impairment. It is possible to have one or more developmental disabilities at once.

Development disorder is not a curable condition, but it can be treated, and thankfully there are several available treatment programs to help it course;

  • Medications.
  • Physical therapy.
  • Individual and family therapies.
  • Special education.
  • Treating underlying medical issues (If present).
  • Occupational and speech therapy.

To ensure that children with such disorders are handled with care, certain systems need to be put in place, so let's talk about some interventions for childhood mental and developmental disorders.

Helpful inventions for childhood mental and developmental disorders.

Some countries have plans for mental health policies aimed at addressing mental and developmental disorders in children.

There are some inventions where there is a setup for mothers to be taught the importance of play in children's development. Children need to learn how to play and positively react with other children, this has proven to aid significant cognitive improvement and motor development, especially in those infants whose developments were slightly delayed.

Schools have also a very strong effect on families, children, and communities. Mental health school-based services have the potential to bridge the gap between the need and utilization through outreach to children who may usually not have access to these services.

Some established voluntary sectors have played a strong role in raising awareness of problems faced by children who have mental health difficulties.
Certain communities provide some rehabilitation services for some children with developmental disorders and help is provided at an early stage for children who need it.

Parenting skill training is provided to enhance the support of parental role through education and training. Increasing the positive interaction between parents and children, helping them learn how well to communicate emotionally with children, ensuring that parents understand how to communicate effectively with their children and the use of time as a means of discipline, and parents are supported to consistently respond to the behaviors of children.

To understand early enough if your child is experiencing a developmental disorder, as a parent you must pay very close attention to how your child is developing. Developmental monitoring helps a parent understand the growth and changes in their child.

Parents, grandparents, and caregivers can all help in developmental monitoring, based on experience or the use of a checklist of milestones, to help see how the child is developing, and once you notice that your child is not meeting up to that standard, you should seek the help of a medical expert.

It's unfortunate that some of these disorders just show up without any concrete reason and innocent children now have to suffer for it. Watching out for the symptoms on time is a good thing.

Really unfortunate reality, getting to know the symptoms on time and providing possible solutions that will help a little bit.

You highlight one of the biggest challenges for people with developmental disorders: others who may take advantage. When someone is young, often parents and protect. However, during adulthood often people who have developmental disorders fall prey to exploiters.

I have had family members with developmental disorders and have taught children also with this challenge. It is something that we all should be aware of. We all need to be alert to the issue so we can prevent the exploitation of the vulnerable.

Thank you for writing this most sensitive and informative blog.

Sadly, we live in a wicked world and people love to take advantage of those with disorders, I wish we could all do better. Appreciate your feedback.
