Day 14 Since I Quit My Job: How it's going

Oh well, it’s day 14 since I quit my job, and I have a confession to make. Over the past few days, I've felt a little...lonely. Don’t get me wrong, I am glad I resigned, I mean, I was in a state of euphoria about the thought of resigning in the first place.

It’s just, I’m only human and I am allowed to feel this way. I’ve never been a stay-at-home person. Ever since I graduated school, It has been from one busy workday to another. Even when I changed jobs in the past, I never gave myself actual breaks in-between. All I wanted was to keep on moving, no brakes.

I do not regret quitting one bit. It’s not the job I miss, it’s the people I met on the job. It’s the few genuine friendships I made on the job. Number one would be my friend, Yomms as I like to call her. And, yes, I miss my co-workers.

You’re probably thinking, you have Hive Omosefe, so why are you lonely? It’s the absence of actual human interaction. I was never one to go out, I shy away from dates- with potential boyfriends or just friendly dates.

The thought of going to a party stresses me to the core of my being. A 9-5 job, in my case 8 am-7 pm was more of an escape for me because I almost never leave my house if it’s not work-related.

I woke up feeling some type of way today so I decided to share my thoughts with you. It feels like a burst of Nostalgia. I suddenly miss the general staff meeting held monthly because I always had something to laugh about, there’s also the thought of walking through the office doors daily dressed in my corporate gowns and heels.

I have made up my mind to just allow myself to feel what I need to feel. I know for sure that this feeling is just a phase that will pass.

It’s easy to advise me to get another job. However, the truth is I do not think I am ready to deal with half the emotional, physical, and mental stress I went through on my last job.

This time I have decided to let myself heal, I am taking a break for my own healing. Jumping into a new job when you’re barely over a burnout phase will only do more harm than good. I know better now, hence, I will do better.

Perhaps the most wonderful thing about this newfound freedom is the fact that I have control over my life again. I get to sleep and wake up at my wish. Most importantly, I have more than enough time to create content here on HIVE.

I think the most surprising thing that has happened since quitting is the number of messages and calls I have received from co-workers; the ones I had a good rapport with, and the ones I rarely interacted with.

The calls were for quite similar reasons; to express surprise, some to leave kind words, and some to express displeasure at not pre informing them.
Obviously, we can’t go about announcing our intended resignations to every co-worker we know now, can we?.

The calls have further proven to me that I must have done a darn good job in my time for the impact of my absence to be noticed.

Finally, I cannot overemphasize how much leaving my most recent job has positively helped me. I am content, happy, and well-rested.

PS: Thank you for reading. You’re the best!

You’re brave…Besides having time for Hive you should really give socializing a go, I’m a very stay inside the house kinda guy but sometimes going out is therapeutic

Thank you. Socializing is on my bucket list for the year though. I'll take your 'therapeutic' word for it. I'll be sure to write about my experiences.

Good luck with your new direction in life! Change always feels weird and off-putting at first but you'll get used to it and find something you love.
If something hurts you, it's never worth pursuing.
