An University Architecture - from Tobacco Factroy to University (eng-tr)

Hello everyone,

Today I will introduce you to the architecture of my university. The name of my university is Kadir Has University in Istanbul. I am currently doing my master's degree at this university. The architecture of the university is so interesting and I discover a new design every time. The university campus is actually not a very big place. It is located in Balat, one of the most beautiful districts of Istanbul. It is difficult to find a university with a large campus in this district. This is a very old town with a coast to the sea. Here the settlements are denser.

The most interesting aspect of this university is that its used to be a tobacco factory. According to the information written on the walls of the campus, Kadir Has campus was opened in 2007. In the 1880s, this place was used as a tobacco factory. Some artifacts belonging to the factory can be seen in a few parts of the university. Actually, there are some videos about museum part, but I didn't know how to share them on this platform.

Merhaba arkadaşlar,

Bugün sizlere üniversitemin mimarisini tanıtacağım. İstanbul'da bulunan üniversitemin adı Kadir Has Üniversitesi. Şu an bu üniversitede yüksek lisans yapıyorum.

I saw both historical artifacts and modern buildings in the campus. When I first saw the two photos below, I was very surprised. I compared the red one to Azrael and the white one to #Saruman :) The works were both frightening and interesting. I guess these works were made by the students of the art department of the school.

I took this photo in the evening. I've been going to campus on weekends for the past month to use the library. I'm working at the library until 8 pm to finish my thesis. When I leave the campus, these two works appear before me. I'm especially afraid of the red one. But I also want to congratulate the person who made this work. A very successful work indeed.

Kadir Has is a private university and cafes are indispensable for universities. Campus management and owner of this cafeteria earn high incomes thanks to these cafes. The most famous of these cafes, as we all know, is #Starbucks. I took this photo on the weekend and because the number of students decreases on the weekend, Starbucks also do not open their venues on the weekends. During the week, these empty tables are all filled.

Look, we see a historical car in the photo below. I couldn't get close to the protected car, but it has interesting features. The red color is also a great detail. Every corner of the school seems ready to become a #museum.

I mentioned above that the school has both historical and modern sections. The elevator I use to go to the library has modern architecture. You can go up with a glass elevator through the green trees seen in the photos below.

The place you see in the below is important to me because I use this prayer room. Since #Balat is a historical district, there are many #mosques here. There were no prayer rooms on campus because the mosques were close. However, a prayer room was opened in the campus last summer upon the students' complaints. This development made me very happy. I wanted to share the door of this room with you.

Here are different parts of the school. There is a different cafe in this part. Lunch is also available here. I eat here when I come to campus during the week. I think this part was added later. The architecture of this side is unlike any other part of the campus. The dean of the university said that the renovation of this campus began in 1999. The lines of the modern architecture of the last twenty years are evident in this part of the campus. Generally, gray color is preferred. I love both the historical and modern part of my campus.

The photos you see below are of the library. I likes the campus library. Since it is on the top floor, it has a spacious and bright environment.

The ceiling of the library is made of wooden materials. They mounted both the lighting and the heating mechanism on this wooden ceiling. The school administration should have taken adequate precautions against the risk of fire. But when I study, I look at the ceiling :)

This is the evening view of my school. It is not obvious in the photo below, but there is the #Galata Tower opposite. It is a must-see place for every tourist coming to Istanbul.

After leaving campus, I take the bus. I pass by one of the mosques close to the campus. I also love the architecture of this mosque. In my opinion, architects living in ancient times produced more successful works. Do you agree with me?
Which one is successful: old architecture or modern architecturel?

See you next post🌸

Yeni bir postta görüşmek dileğiyle✌️

The architecture of the campus is in harmony with Balat.

Hey @oneplanet. How are you doing? Did you know that Istanbul is one of my favorite cities in the world? Not only for the heartwarming people, interesting culture, and delicious food, but most importantly, because that historic metropolis is a paradise of heritage architecture! I absolutely miss that place, so I look forward to traveling there again in the near future. 😊

Knowing that your iconic city exists on top of an ancient civilization, I'm not surprised that your respected university used to be a tobacco factory, being trade routes for many generations. However, I love how they've combined the old and the new in that learning institution - like hitting 2 birds with 1 stone! I'm pretty sure your classes there are interesting because not only do you digest recent knowledge but also absorb significant information about the past. 👍

What design elements have intrigued you the most about your university's architecture? And why?

Hello @storiesoferne, I'm fine, thank you. How are you? Yes, I remember you loved Istanbul. Istanbul must miss you:) Plan and come. I'm ready to tell you the great historical places of Istanbul.
My university added modern sections to the campus without damaging the legacy of the old factory. I like to be on campus because of this difference. Unfortunately, when I started this university, my #pandemic started and I had to attend most of my classes online. I'm going to use his library now.
The fact that there are ghost-like statues and green fields on #campus is one of the things that I'm most interested in. They tried to increase the green areas inside the campus because there was little green space off campus. It means a lot to me.

I'm doing alright, grateful for that! Well explained @oneplanet. Those green spaces within your university campus add the essence of a natural atmosphere due to the healing benefits derived from the environment. It's certainly a much-needed boost to your valuable learning experiences. 👍

On the other hand, the creepy statues you're referring to probably contribute a feeling of mystery, suspense, and drama to the interiors - where these entities watch over students who tend to sleep instead of study, lol 🤣 Just in time for Halloween, right? 😁

I hope to see more outstanding architecture from Istanbul, especially coming from a respected local like you. Thank you for this awesome post! 😊
