Sunny Day at Boğaziçi University (eng-tr)

Yesterday, I went to Boğaziçi University with some of my old colleagues. It was not just an ordinary visit for me. One of our dear friends, the human resources manager I really liked, was leaving her job, and we came together for her farewell lunch. It was a meaningful day because I had the chance to see both her and my former colleagues again. Sometimes meeting people from an old workplace feels like opening a familiar door from the past. You remember the conversations, the busy days, the laughter, and even the small daily routines.

Dün eski iş arkadaşlarımla birlikte Boğaziçi Üniversitesi’ne gittim. Benim için sıradan bir ziyaret değildi. Çok sevdiğim insan kaynakları müdürümüz işten ayrılıyordu ve onun veda yemeği için bir araya geldik. Hem onu hem de eski iş arkadaşlarımı tekrar görmek benim için çok anlamlıydı. Bazen eski bir iş yerinden insanlarla buluşmak, geçmişten tanıdık bir kapıyı yeniden açmak gibi oluyor. Konuşmaları, yoğun günleri, gülüşleri ve küçük günlük rutinleri yeniden hatırlıyorsunuz.

The best part was that our professor works at Boğaziçi University, so we could enter the campus more easily and have lunch at the place where the academic staff usually eats. When I was working with them, we also used to go there from time to time. So this visit brought back some old memories for me. The food was simple, like a regular home-style meal, but the atmosphere made everything more special. We chose our food, sat together, talked, and enjoyed a peaceful lunch under the trees.

En güzel tarafı ise hocamızın Boğaziçi Üniversitesi’nde çalışıyor olmasıydı. Bu yüzden kampüse daha rahat girebildik ve hocaların yemek yediği yerde yemek yiyebildik. Ben onlarla çalışırken de zaman zaman oraya giderdik. Bu yüzden bu ziyaret bana eski günleri de hatırlattı. Yemekler sade, ev yemeği tarzındaydı ama ortam her şeyi daha özel hale getiriyordu. Yemeğimizi aldık, birlikte oturduk, sohbet ettik ve ağaçların altında huzurlu bir öğle yemeği yedik.

Boğaziçi University was, as always, standing there with all its beauty. The campus was very lively because it was graduation time. Many students were walking around in beautiful clothes, with their families and friends beside them. There was a happy and excited feeling everywhere. Graduation days always carry a special emotion. They are full of hope, pride, and a little bit of sadness too, because one chapter ends while another one begins.

Boğaziçi Üniversitesi her zamanki gibi tüm güzelliğiyle oradaydı. Mezuniyet dönemine denk geldiğimiz için kampüs oldukça kalabalıktı. Birçok öğrenci güzel kıyafetleriyle, aileleri ve arkadaşlarıyla birlikte kampüste dolaşıyordu. Her yerde mutlu ve heyecanlı bir hava vardı. Mezuniyet günleri her zaman özel bir duygu taşır. İçinde umut, gurur ve biraz da hüzün vardır; çünkü bir dönem biterken yeni bir dönem başlar.

For many students in Türkiye, Boğaziçi University has always been a dream. It is one of the most respected universities in the country, and its campus has a very special place in people’s minds. When I was preparing for university exams, I remember seeing photos of Boğaziçi University on the walls of many study centers. The campus photos were almost like motivation posters. Everyone wanted to study there, but the scores were very high. For me, it was not even a realistic dream at that time because my score was not enough.

Türkiye’de birçok öğrenci için Boğaziçi Üniversitesi her zaman bir hayal olmuştur. Ülkenin en saygın üniversitelerinden biri ve kampüsü insanların zihninde çok özel bir yere sahip. Üniversite sınavına hazırlandığım dönemlerde dershanelerin duvarlarında Boğaziçi Üniversitesi’nin fotoğraflarını gördüğümü hatırlıyorum. Kampüs fotoğrafları sanki bir motivasyon afişi gibiydi. Herkes orada okumak isterdi ama puanları çok yüksekti. Benim için o dönem gerçekçi bir hayal bile değildi çünkü puanım yetmiyordu.

Still, being able to visit the campus from time to time makes me happy. There is something peaceful and inspiring about this place. The green lawns, old stone buildings, wide blue sky, and the Bosphorus view create a very beautiful atmosphere. Even a simple walk there feels different. You do not only walk between buildings; you walk through history, memories, dreams, and student life. Every corner seems to have its own story.

Yine de kampüsü zaman zaman ziyaret edebilmek beni mutlu ediyor. Bu yerde huzurlu ve ilham veren bir şey var. Yeşil çimler, eski taş binalar, masmavi gökyüzü ve Boğaz manzarası çok güzel bir atmosfer oluşturuyor. Orada basit bir yürüyüş bile farklı hissettiriyor. Sadece binaların arasında yürümüyorsunuz; tarihin, anıların, hayallerin ve öğrenci hayatının içinden geçiyorsunuz. Her köşenin kendine ait bir hikâyesi var gibi.

After lunch, we drank tea and continued our conversations. Turkish tea always makes these moments warmer and more familiar. Then we walked around the campus for a while. There were food stands, graduation preparations, students taking photos, and families smiling proudly. The weather was also perfect. It was sunny, bright, and warm. The blue sky made the campus look even more beautiful in the photos.

Yemekten sonra çay içtik ve sohbetimize devam ettik. Türk çayı bu anları her zaman daha sıcak ve daha tanıdık hale getiriyor. Sonra kampüste biraz yürüdük. Yemek stantları, mezuniyet hazırlıkları, fotoğraf çektiren öğrenciler ve gururla gülümseyen aileler vardı. Hava da çok güzeldi. Güneşli, aydınlık ve sıcaktı. Masmavi gökyüzü kampüsü fotoğraflarda daha da güzel gösteriyordu.

One of the things I love most about photography is that it helps us keep these simple days alive. Maybe to someone else, these photos are just campus views, food, tea, and a sunny afternoon. But for me, they carry a lot of meaning. They remind me of friendship, old work memories, farewell, gratitude, dreams, and the beauty of being together again. A photograph can hold much more than what we see at first glance.

Fotoğrafçılıkla ilgili en sevdiğim şeylerden biri, böyle sade günleri canlı tutması. Belki bir başkası için bu fotoğraflar sadece kampüs manzarası, yemek, çay ve güneşli bir öğleden sonra olabilir. Ama benim için çok daha fazla anlam taşıyor. Bana arkadaşlığı, eski iş anılarını, vedayı, minnettarlığı, hayalleri ve yeniden bir araya gelmenin güzelliğini hatırlatıyor. Bir fotoğraf, ilk bakışta gördüğümüzden çok daha fazlasını içinde saklayabiliyor.

That morning, before going there, I had also exercised. So my legs were already tired and aching a little. But walking inside the campus still felt good for me. Sometimes tiredness becomes softer when the place is beautiful. The walk was not only physical; it was also emotional. I felt tired, but I also felt refreshed. It was one of those days that leaves you with a calm smile at the end.

O sabah oraya gitmeden önce spor da yapmıştım. Bu yüzden bacaklarım zaten yorgundu ve biraz ağrıyordu. Ama kampüsün içinde yürümek yine de bana iyi geldi. Bazen bulunduğunuz yer güzel olunca yorgunluk daha hafif geliyor. Bu yürüyüş sadece fiziksel bir yürüyüş değildi; aynı zamanda duygusal bir yürüyüştü. Yoruldum ama aynı zamanda yenilenmiş gibi hissettim. Günün sonunda insanda sakin bir tebessüm bırakan günlerden biriydi.

After spending time on the campus, our professor kindly took me back to my old workplace area, and from there I returned home. On the way back, I felt grateful for the day. I was happy to see my old friends, happy to be in such a beautiful place, and happy to witness the excitement of young graduates. Life changes, people move on, workplaces change, but some places and some memories stay with us in a very gentle way.

Kampüste vakit geçirdikten sonra hocam beni tekrar eski iş yerimin olduğu bölgeye bıraktı, oradan da eve döndüm. Dönüş yolunda o gün için içimde bir minnettarlık vardı. Eski arkadaşlarımı gördüğüm için mutluydum, böyle güzel bir yerde bulunduğum için mutluydum ve genç mezunların heyecanına şahit olduğum için mutluydum. Hayat değişiyor, insanlar yollarına devam ediyor, iş yerleri değişiyor ama bazı yerler ve bazı anılar bizde çok zarif bir şekilde kalıyor.

It was a simple but beautiful day. A farewell lunch, old colleagues, a beloved campus, graduation joy, tea, food, walking, and many photos… Sometimes these are the days we remember the most. Not because something extraordinary happened, but because everything felt sincere, peaceful, and real. Boğaziçi University gave us another lovely memory under the summer sun.

Sade ama çok güzel bir gündü. Bir veda yemeği, eski iş arkadaşları, çok sevilen bir kampüs, mezuniyet sevinci, çay, yemek, yürüyüş ve birçok fotoğraf… Bazen en çok böyle günleri hatırlıyoruz. Çok olağanüstü bir şey olduğu için değil, her şey samimi, huzurlu ve gerçek hissettirdiği için. Boğaziçi Üniversitesi yaz güneşinin altında bize bir güzel anı daha bıraktı.
