NFL Week 2-Chiefs @ Ravens

Wow. Talk about a heart-breaker. The Chiefs had the lead all the way until the end of the 4th and then lost the game by 1 putting them 1-1 on the season. I'm not gonna lie guys I really thought they had this one in the bag. It was such an exciting game however, the last few minutes were full of despair.

1st Half

Q1

The first kick off went to the Ravens, which led to the Chief's first score on a pick-six by Matheiu who was out last wee recovering from covid. That was followed by a 2 yard fumble recovery touchdown for the Ravens by Duvernay, with the successful PAT that brought the score to 7-7 at 10:36 in the first. At 6:05 left in the first Robinson scored on a 33 yard pass from Mahomes bringing it to 14-7 to end the 1st Quarter.

Q2

The second quarter had a lot less points scored than the first, with the first score coming with 3:21 left in the quarter for the Ravens by Murray on a 5 yard run brinnging the game back to a tie. With 51 seconds left in the half Williams scored for the Chiefs on a 2 yard run putting the Chiefs back in the lead. While that should have been the final score of the half, the Chiefs defense somehow allowed the Ravens to get back into field goal range and with 3 seconds left in the half Tucker kicked a 43 yard field goal for the Ravens. This brought the score to 21-17 to end the half, with the Chiefs holding onto the lead.

2nd Half

Q3

Back to another high scoring quarter the first score came at 11:53 left in the quarter by for the Chiefs. Pringle scored on a 40 yard pass from Mahomes bringing the score to 28-17. At 9:30 Brown scored on a 42 yard pass from Jackson for the ravens closing the Chiefs' lead to just 4 points. At 6:50 left in the quarter Kelce scored on a 46 yard pass from Mahomes, the second longest of Kelce's career, and extending the Chiefs' lead to 11 points to end the quarter at 35-24.

Q4

This is where it all went wrong for the Chiefs, who had a scoreless 4th Quarter. At 14:13 Jackson scored on a 2 yard run, with a failed 2 pt conversion, that brought the score to 35-30. The Chiefs ended up punting on their next drive, and the Ravens took advantage of it. Chewing up the clock on their way back down the field the Ravens finally scored at 3:14. Jackson scored on a 1 yard run, and with another failed 2 pt conversion, this put them 1 point in the lead with a score of 35-36 and plenty of time for the Chiefs to win the game. The Chiefs were doing a good job of making it down the field and eating up the clock when a fumble by Edwards-Helaire that was recovered by the Ravens sealed the loss for the Chiefs. The Chiefs MIGHT have been able to pull out a win if they had held the Ravens to a 3 and out, but when the Ravens picked up the first down they successfully shut the lid on the Chiefs.

It was an exciting, high-scoring game of football. Unfortunately, the Chiefs fell apart in the 4th Quarter. If that wouldn't have happened they would have secured a 2-0 start to the season. Mathieu had a good first game back with 2 interceptions, one of which was a pick 6. Lamar Jackson also made history tonight with his 4th game having 200+ passing yards and 100+ rushing yards. Kelce had a big night with 100+ receiving yards and Hill was neutralized tonight with only 14 receiving yards. Mahomes threw 24/31 for 343 yards. All in all, even considering the 4th quarter blow out, I thought the Chiefs played a pretty good game, and if they wouldn't have had that crucial fumble they more than likely would have won the game.
