The risk of nuclear war is at its highest level since the end of the Cold war. As Russian Battlefield losses in Ukraine create an increasingly desperate Vladimir Putin is threatening to use some nuclear weapons in his arsenal. The Russians are losing the war in Ukraine. Russians have retreated from Kyiv and now they are focusing on other regions in Ukraine like the east region.

Given the huge support that Ukraine has been getting from NATO, Russia is also not having an upper hand there. This comes after Vladimir Putin take over four Ukrainian regions in a contested referendum in September. For sure, the Russian losses have gotten so bad that Vladimir Putin himself has even admitted their losses. Putin shows some signs of serious desperation in his recent partial mobilization plan, we see thousands of Russian citizens being called up to join the army. As Russia is losing the war, Putin's statements are becoming aggressive and he is treating to use nuclear weapons.

On the 30th of September when he announced the takeover of those four oblasts of Ukraine, Putin also said Russia the seized lands are under its nuclear protection. The U.S President said the world would experience Armageddon if Vladimir Putin use any form of nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Even the NATO Secretary General says Vladimir Putin would go beyond his boundary if he use nuclear weapons.

There are differences between strategy and tactical nuclear weapons. When nuclear attacks are mentioned, the nuclear weapon most people usually associate themselves with is the strategic nuclear weapon. The strategy nuclear weapons are the large ones that could level cities and can be launched from across other countries. It is called strategy they are there not to make one use of it because it could level cities in a short time. On the other hand, tactical nuclear weapons are not based on mutual deterrence and are useful in battlefield environments.
