Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge! - Even Stevens

avatar

Hello Family and Guild Mate

Once again, another week of the weekly Battle Mage Challenge. The ruleset for this week is Even Stevens. Even Stevens is a ruleset where you can only use units with even mana cost in the battle, excluding the summoner. The battle I'm sharing is from one of the tournaments I participated in, the Silver Tournament. One of the rulesets in my battle is Even Stevens, and coincidentally, Are You Not Entertained? is also included in the ruleset, allowing me to use Katrelba Gobson. Katrelba has a mana cost of 6, so she fits the ruleset for use in battle. Apart from Quora, Katrelba is one of the Gladius Edition cards that I often use in brawls and ranked battles. That's why I chose her to share, as Katrelba's performance was impressive, almost died immediately but luckily survived the battle. Let's take a look at the entire battle, how I won, and how Katrelba survived the battle.

TEAM COMPOSITION

battle lineup.png

In this battle, I chose Immortalis as my summoner, with void and shatter abilities that affect all units. Through Immortalist, I also can reduce the opponent's unit's health by -1. For the 1st position, I selected Mycelic Infantry, a melee attacker with shield ability. With the void ability from Immortalist, Mycelic has an additional defense against physical attackers, so I placed him at the front. In the 2nd position, I chose Lurking Puffer, a no-attack monster with silence and corrosive ward abilities. Lurking's silence strengthens the void protection. Because silence can reduce the opponent's magic attack by -1. For the 3rd position, I picked Ava The Undaunted, a ranged attacker with weapons training ability. Ava's weapons training ability provides ranged attack ability to Lurking. In the 4th position, I selected Katrelba Gobson, a melee attacker with bloodlust, sneak, and double strike abilities. Katrelba's sneak ability attacks the opponent's backline. In the 5th position, I chose Goblin Psychic, a magic attacker with tank heal and affliction abilities. Goblin Psychic heals the unit in the 1st position, and affliction nullifies healing if the opponent uses it in the front. Finally, for the last position, I chose Queen Mycelia, a magic attacker with protect and amplified abilities. Queen Mycelia's protect ability grants an additional +2 armor to all units. I can't use Queen Mycelia's amplify ability because I don't have monsters with return damage ability. Amplify strengthens the return damage ability.

KEYNOTES

Due to Ava The Undaunted's weapons training, Lurking Puffer gained a ranged attack ability.

Due to the combination of shield, silence, and void abilities, Mycelic Infantry hardly received any damage at the front. Mycelic Infantry only received 2 damages from Djinn Chwala due to his shield ability.

BATTLE SUMMARY

In round 1, due to Queen Mycelia's amplify, it boosted Djinn Chawala's thorns damage, quickly breaking through armor, and Katrelba gained +3 damage due to her direct hit attack on Djinn Chawala. Fortunately, Katrelba had one life left, so she didn't die immediately. In this same round, my Queen Mycelia sought revenge and killed Djinn Chwala.

In round 2, with only 6 lives remaining for the opponent's Quora, Katrelba Gobson killed Quora because her double strike attack hit Quora. Because of this, Katrelba's life, melee damage, and speed increased by one due to her bloodlust ability. In this same round, Mycelic Infantry also killed the opponent's Queen Mycelia.

The battle ended in round 3. Firstly, Katrelba Gobson killed the opponent's Goblin Psychic with a double strike. Since the remaining two units of the opponent had low health, my units managed to kill the two remaining opponents.

Overall, my strategy was successful. Even though my plan to target the opponent's backline didn't materialize because my opponent used Lily, where all of their units had camouflage, so I could only attack the front line. However, the combination of shield, silence, and void was successful in providing protection against magic and physical attackers. Since most of my opponent's units had 1 or 2 damage, my front line, Mycelic Infantry, didn't take any damage.
