LOW STANDARD IS NOT MODESTY

Hello beautiful people. Last week, I had the opportunity of staying in one of the guest houses that belongs to a major businessman. After the event I went for, we stayed late into the night and decided to stay because there was a lot of work to do the next day.

The guest house has been serving the people of the state and those out of town for more than 30 years. It was located in a very prestigious commercial area. The only problem was that there was no way to rate the hotel as a one start hotel. It had no modern facilities, the amenities had not been refurbished or replaced for many years and the worst of it was that the interior and exterior design was poor and tasteless. It was obvious that it's been years since the last time a fresh coat of paint had gone on the walls or that any major maintenance work had been done in the guest house.

This brings us to the problem at hand, while the guest house in a dilapidated state, the fees and charges were on the high side. The owners of the guest house were influential and wealthy enough, it was a surprise to see that they would allow their prime guest house to fall into a state of disrepair. One could speculate that they had other priorities or they had to put their money into other projects that gulp up more money that could been used to repair the guest house.

It is very difficult to justify the condition of the guest house when you consider the heavy fees patrons are charged to spend a night in the room available there. It is worth nothing that the guest house could have a negative impact on the status and name of the business as it directly reflects on what their activities are and what they are doing. Their reputation is at stake and the image that it come

What value were they offering their customers with such poor and dilapidated building? It would be very difficult for me or anyone who enjoy value to recommend the guest house to others unless it was a free accommodation prospect.

They are more focused on making money than providing a comfortable or high quality service and experience for their customers. They seem to be more concerned about the money that comes in that they forget that you have to spend money in order to make money.

Another aspect of this is that they do not consider the health and safety of their customers, there could be infiltration of snakes and other dangerous pests because the building is in such a poor state, also the customers could be infected with diseases from untidy environment that doesn't undergo consistent sanitation.

What can we learn to avoid from this situation?

We can learn four important things which I will try to elaborate on:

Maintenance culture.

Many people lack this trait in their personal lives and also in their businesses. At first everything can be shiny and look really great but that would be the last time they put in any effort to keep it pristine like that. They can go for months without blinking or thinking of anything they should do to refresh the work they have done.

Poor investment culture.

After an initial investment, most people consider it all done, they do not think of the next thing they are supposed to do, they do not think of any upgrades that should be put in place to make their investment stand side by side or meet with the new standards in the industry.

For Profit only.

Some people create investments and only think about the profit they can get out of it. It happens mostly to those who use their vehicles for commercial purposes, they make money with the vehicle but forget to keep the car well maintained, their thoughts of profit consumes their mind and makes them blind to any other thing happening, sometimes the car will deteriorate and wear so badly before they realize the consequences of their actions.

Reputation and Image.

Many people do not know the effect of their actions on their image and reputation, especially when they feel they are bigger than that particular investment. We must always remain humble no matter what status we attain in life because they is what will keep us grounded and we will not be blinded by ego or fame.

Cheers.
