The Orinoco Fair or Feria de la Sapoara is an annual festival held along the boulevard of Paseo Orinoco in Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela. During the entire month of August, the fair focuses on fishing for the sapoara, a fish native to the Orinoco River that can only be caught at this time of year and specifically on the southern bank of the Orinoco River along the river bank in front of Ciudad Bolivar.

It is a cultural tradition of the region, an important event for local tourism.

Hundreds of fishermen gather every year during the fair to carry out traditional artisanal fishing with Atarrayas (hand-woven nets) in wooden boats known as Curiaras.

The Orinoco Fair is more than just an event, it is the meeting point of a vibrant explosion of cultures. During the days of the fair, you can immerse yourself in the local gastronomic traditions, discovering dishes that are true culinary delights.

At the Orinoco Fair, the aromas of empanadas, arepas, cold fish and other typical dishes such as cachapa, fill the air and invite you to savor Venezuelan cuisine. And if we talk about handicrafts, here you will find handmade artifacts that are true pieces of art.

Thank you! The Angostura bridge over the Orinoco river is the best postcard we have of the sunsets in Ciudad Bolivar. We are privileged to have this landscape in front of our city.

I can't hear "Orinoco" without thinking of this song:

The title of the song Orinoco Flow is due to the Orinoco River found in Venezuela. Recorded in London in 1988 by Orinoco Studios.

Many enjoyed that song without knowing that the Orinoco River exists.

@orinoquense Your publication is very beautiful, although I live in Caracas, and I have always heard about the fair, I have never had the opportunity to go, at least today I learned a little about the history of the sapoara.

Hola Linda...
