Visit to the surroundings of the Palacio Federal Legislativo and the Palacio de las Academias in Caracas. ESP/EN.

First of all, my best regards to the Visual Shots, Virtual World and Hive community in general.

Antes que nada mis cordiales saludos a la comunidad de Visual Shots, Mundo Virtual y Hive en general.

Today, I had the opportunity to walk around downtown Caracas and see two of the most beautiful palaces we have in the city; however, I could not enter them, as they were not open to the public.

El día de hoy, tuve la oportunidad de pasear por el centro de Caracas y ver dos de los palacios más hermosos que tenemos en la ciudad; sin embargo, no pude ingresar a ellos, ya que no estaban abiertos al público.

In addition, I was pleasantly surprised to see that both buildings are undergoing restoration work, which is extremely important, not only for their beauty in itself, but also for the historical significance of these buildings.

Además, me llevé la grata sorpresa de ver que están haciendo restauraciones en ambas obras, lo que es sumamente importante, no solo por su belleza en sí misma, sino por la carga histórica que tienen estos edificios.

The Legislative Palace is one of the most iconic buildings in Venezuela, its construction was initiated by President Guzmán Blanco, known as "The Illustrious American" in 1872 and although its facilities were used as of February 1873, when the palace was partially inaugurated, it was completely finished in 1877.

El Palacio Legislativo es uno de los edificios más icónicos de Venezuela, su construcción fue iniciada por el Presidente Guzmán Blanco, Conocido como “El Ilustre Americano” en el año de 1872 y aunque se utilizaron sus instalaciones a partir del mes de febrero de 1873, cuando se hizo una inauguración parcial del palacio, el mismo estuvo terminado totalmente en el año de 1877.

In 1961, during the government of Rafael Caldera, the palace became the exclusive use of the Legislative Power, since until 1961, the powers operated in the palace. In 1997, in the month of August, the Federal Legislative Palace became the National Heritage of Venezuela.

A partir del año 1961, en el gobierno de Rafael Caldera, el palacio pasa a ser de uso exclusivo del Poder Legislativo, ya que hasta ese año de 1961, funcionaban los poderes en el palacio. Para el año de 1997, en el mes de agosto, el Palacio Federal Legislativo, paso a ser Patrimonio Nacional de Venezuela.

As for the Palace of the Academies, there is a very interesting history, it is an extremely old building, its construction began in the year 1577 and by the middle of the year 1750, the Franciscan Convent worked there, which was partially destroyed in the earthquake of 1812.

En cuanto al Palacio de las Academias, hay una historia muy interesante, es un edificio sumamente viejo, su construcción comenzó en el año de 1577 y ya mediados del año de 1750, funcionaba ahí el Convento Franciscano, el cual quedó parcialmente destruido en el terremoto de 1812.

A historical fact that I remember from my younger days, is that at the time of the earthquake of 1812, Venezuela was in full independence struggle against the Spanish Empire, and the Church and the royalists, were telling the people that the earthquake was a punishment from God, to the people, for revolting against the Spanish crown, and because of this situation the Liberator Simon Bolivar launches one of his most famous and remembered phrases in our history, which says; "Although nature opposes us, we will fight against them (Spanish-Royalists) and we will make them obey us". This phrase, which was distorted by a Spanish historian, and for some texts it reads as follows: "If nature opposes us, we will fight against it and we will make it obey us." Un dato histórico que recuerdo de mis tiempos mozos, es que en la época del terremoto de 1812, Venezuela estaba en plena lucha independentista en contra del Imperio Español, y la Iglesia y los realistas, le estaban diciendo al pueblo que el terremoto era una castigo de Dios, al pueblo, por sublevarse en contra de la corona española, y debido a esta situación el Libertador Simón Bolívar lanza una de sus frases más célebres y recordadas en nuestra historia, la cual dice; “Aunque la naturaleza se oponga lucharemos contra ellos (españoles-realistas) y haremos que nos obedezcan”. Frase, que quedo tergiversada por un historiador español, quedando para algunos textos de la siguiente forma: "Si la naturaleza se opone, lucharemos contra ella y haremos, que nos obedezca". Returning to the subject, after the reconstruction of the building, by the year 1821, it was decided to eliminate the Franciscan Convent, and the facilities received different uses over time, among them, the building served as headquarters of the congress and as headquarters of the Central University of Venezuela from 1856 to 1953.

Volviendo al tema, después de la reconstrucción del edificio, ya para el año de 1821, se decide eliminar el Convento Franciscano, y las instalaciones recibieron diferentes usos al transcurrir del tiempo, entre ellas, el edificio sirvió como sede del congreso y como sede de la Universidad Centra de Venezuela desde 1856 a 1953.

With respect to the current architecture of the building, according to what I read, in 1876 President Guzmán Blanco ordered several remodeling works, later, President Juan Vicente Gómez did the same in the 30's, leaving it as we see and know it today.

Con respecto a la arquitectura actual del edificio, según leí, para el año de 1876 el Presidente Guzmán Blanco, ordeno varias remodelaciones, posteriormente, el Presidente Juan Vicente Gómez hizo lo propio en la década de los 30, quedando como lo vemos y conocemos hoy en la actualidad.

In 1952, the government of the time decided to move the headquarters of the academies of history, medicine, mathematics, natural sciences and others to this building, where the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) still functioned.

En al año de 1952, el gobierno de la época, decide pasar a ese edificio, donde aún funcionaba la Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV), las sedes de las academias de historia, medicina, matemáticas, ciencias naturales y otras.

Subsequently, the Universidad Central de Venezuela was moved to its current location, when the Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas was created during the government of General Marcos Pérez Jiménez, headquarters of the UCV from that time to the present.

Posteriormente, se traslada la Universidad Central de Venezuela a su actual ubicación, cuando se crea en el gobierno del General Marcos Pérez Jiménez la Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas, sede, desde esa época hasta la actualidad, de la UCV.

Finally, in the left wing or east wing of the Palace of the Academies, were the headquarters of the academies and the Bolivarian society, among others, while the west wing houses the Metropolitan Library of Caracas Simón Rodríguez. I am not sure if it still functions in those facilities, since it was moved to a few buildings above, near the current headquarters of the Vice-Presidency of the Republic.

Finalmente, en ala izquierda o ala este, del Palacio de las Academias, quedaron las sedes de las academias y de la sociedad Bolivariana, entre otras, mientras que el ala oeste funciona la Biblioteca Metropolitana de Caracas Simón Rodríguez. La cual no tengo la certeza de que aún funcione en esas instalaciones, ya creo fue trasladada a unos edificios más arriba, quedando cerca de la actual sede de la Vicepresidencia de la República.

In 1956, the Palace of the Academies was declared National and Cultural Heritage of the Venezuelan people.

Para al año de 1956, el Palacio de las Academias fue declarado Patrimonio Nacional y cultural del pueblo venezolano.

One last personal historical fact is the following: thanks to the Palacio de las Academias and the fact that the UCV functioned there for so many years, that long avenue in the center of Caracas that all Caracas residents and all Venezuelans who have been to Caracas know, is called Avenida Universidad (University Avenue).

Un último dato histórico personal es el siguiente, gracias al Palacio de las Academias y al hecho de que hay funcionase durante tantos años la UCV, es que esa larga avenida del Centro de Caracas que todos los caraqueños y que todos los venezolanos que han ido a Caracas conocen, recibe el nombre de Avenida Universidad.
