Ladies Of Hive Community Contest #59- New Year festival/Grandma's birthday

Tradition is one thing you must find in each family. This special family tradition means a lot to them and this tradition signifies a unique and important sign to the whole family.

I have come to noticed that my family celebrate different things and all means a lot to us. Some of those things we celebrate are New Yam Festival, Christmas, new year, and Easter. New yam festival is most celebrated in October. In most cases, my family will have to travel to my home to just because of the new yam festival and I also noticed that the king in my home town also takes this tradition very serious.

When I saw the task from lady of Hive contest, I asked myself the same question that was asked. I told myself that all these celebrations or traditions in my family, which of them is most important, though all are important but which is more cherished?. Then I decided to put a call to my Mom to ask her in other to be very sure. To my surprise, she told me New Year festival. All this while I have been thinking it was Christmas because we do travel for Christmas a lot. But she gave me some reason which I will be explaining here.

During Christmas period we all gather in my home town, knowing fully well that we live in different places, so to make the tradition very special and unique, we have to come together in our home town. My uncle built a very big house there that can accommodate the whole family, each family with their own room. After we must have gather for Christmas celebration, there's always much to eat and drink during that period and then you get to see some family members you haven't seen for long.

I love the fact that I get to see my aunties and uncles and most importantly, I get to receive my Christmas present from them. My nephews and nieces are so fun to play with and I do enjoy every moment we spend together.

Now the most cherished tradition is the new year celebration which happens to be my grandmother's birthday too. What a lovely celebration, two celebrations in one day. Since everyone is available for Christmas, definitely they will still be available for the new year celebration.

The reason why this celebration is most cherished is because of the sacrifices grandma made for her children when she was younger and she's still doing that till now. My mom told me that when she was younger before they got married, that they passed through a lot, but her mom went out of her way to make things very easy for them. Mothers will never want their children to suffer in anyway, that was what my grandma did.

Grandpa married two wives, my grandma is the first wife, but with time grandpa decided to change his ways towards his wife and children and decided to follow the second wife. It was very hard for grandma because back then in the days, you hardly see a lady working because they believe it's the work of the men in the family. With the little knowledge grandma had with nursing, she treated people and that was how she was able to train her children and ever since then, the children promised never to forget all that she did for them.

They took her birthday so special, every year, they most gather together for her birthday even when they all got married, the tradition still remained. So they all gather during the Christmas period to plan this special day for grandma. All this while I have been thinking it's the Christmas period that's the most cherished not knowing that's it actually the New year celebration which is Grandma's birthday.

This tradition is very special to me because grandma has always been the best, she's always there for us but in good and in bad times, she's supportive, caring, infact I will say she's the best grandma in the whole world.
