Paying the price to gain knowledge
Paying the price to gain knowledge

The school usually send students with letters to present to institutions and facilities, soliciting that their student spends a particular period of time with them to learn from their industry, things related to their course of study. It's a solicitation letter and so, the institution or industry have every right to reject or accept the student.
We've had lots of cases where institutions rejects lots of people into their company or industries. It is now left for the student to look for any suitable place and reapply until he or she gets a place where they'll be accepted to practice their course.

Getting employed and coming for internship program are two different things all together. Getting employed requires that the employee is skilled and equipped to perform a certain task at a period of time assigned to them. You must be capable and experienced before you are given the role to serve as a worker in that facility. As of an I.T or internship student, they're unskilled and inexperience of how a particular work is being done properly, which means they'll need directions and teaching in other to learn from the company how to perform that duty effectively. This means one is coming to learn and the other one is coming to serve and get paid.

When you register to learn in an institute, you are not in the position for the institute to pay you for teaching you rather, you are supposed to pay for the knowledge you are acquiring from them, but since it's a solicitation letter from your well renowned school to help raise valuable people in the society, it's more like a service from the industry to humanity and the country.

Do the industry benefits from you? Yes they do because in short term of gaining experience you get integrated into any sector and as you progressively learn and acquire knowledge, on the other hand you are working for the company. These are some of the reasons some company will even request that you come and learn with them, so you can help increase their work/labor force.
I consider this as a mutual relationship where the two parties benefits from each other. As one gets their tasks fulfilled through the help of the other while the other one is learning how to effectively carry out those tasks themselves.

Another thing is, we've got considerate employers that are ready to still pay you while you learn with them and work for them. I'll encourage institutions and companies to consider giving little incentives to their students under training for their upkeep etc. it is not a right for the student but a privilege they can make available, to support students that comes to learn under them. It'll go a long way helping the students solve their personal needs while they keep learning with them..

I share the sentiment of interns being the ones to pay to learn valuable skills from the companies they get sent to. But if you consider the nature of most internships, you'd realize that zero payment for the work done gives the authorities easy access to manipulate and exploit the interns.
By the way, most interns are not given everything they need on a platter. They are shown the ropes but they also work hard and contribute to the workforce, so paying them for the time and efforts should be normalized across all boards. Nice to read from you.🙂
Well, if we say we are normalizing paying interns all across, do you think most industries and companies will accept that?
Take for example NYSC program. The agreement form made it clear that the institution (PPA) will provide housing and some (little) stipends for any serving Corp member posted to their facility. Factually, we know corpers are learned people from diverse institutions and so, what they're doing is a service to the nation through the institution they're posted to. We can agree there's no mutual benefits here. The Corp member is solely the person putting in all the work, with their skill and knowledge from their field of study while the institution contributes nothing in return for their efforts. In this case, we can agree it's very fair for the government to demand that Corp members should be taken care off, financially and maybe housing to compensate them abit for their efforts.
Coming back to internship. What do you want to give the company back for accepting you to LEARN under their guidance and facility? I agree some employers demand way more than expected from their interns but we shouldn't generalize every institution to do like that. If I have an institution and all I do for my I.T students is to teach them in adequate proportion what they need to know, then the school or government demands that I pay them for teaching them in my facility, guess what's gonna happen next 😂
Oh wow, seeing you on lab coat gladies my heart 💌never new you are a sciences student. However, you said something very profane about both parties benefit from each others, yea is true the whole stuff is just a mutual deal. Thanks boss
I studied Biochemistry Bro😀
