The new couple sat near each other, not touching, not yet, on the pier. As they watched a family cavorting in the water, they were both thinking the same thing.

This is my entry to @bananafish's wonderful haiku contest Mizu no Oto. For this edition we learned about writing haibun, haiku preceded by short stories.

The photo, by @marcoriccardi, is the prompt.

Heavenly: both the scene and the projection of a life together.
Perfect word choice. :)

I spent half a day just choosing that one word. Thanks for understanding it so well.

I've told you before. A born writer. But talent takes work. It paid off here.

I love the vision of haiku, based on the vision of humanized birds from the history that precedes it. Well done, @owasco!

I am very happy to read some haibuns in competition. Some participants already did, without perhaps knowing that they were haibun ...
Identification with the pair of seagulls: this is not very usual for a haibun, but surely even these thoughts "put on the head" to the birds come from the sensitivity of the author

I love this. Every word is a gem and it's perfect for the prompt.

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with it myself. Have you tried this contest? It's the BEST.

what a lovely, uplifting scene, with exactly the right words to convey it all - the shared vision of future grandchildren - I love their hope and optimism and the total lack of some threat like coronavirus or acid rain or god-knows-what threatening to steal their joy. Just the antidote I needed after reading the morning news. :) thank you!
