Because even houses wait for their tenants, they survive years away from us and then they open their arms of doors and shutters to a young couple, to two idiots who tremble with happiness.

We're off on a new journey!
All things considered, for Samuele it is the third, at least by a certain length.
We return home and this time we will stop.

Of course in about ten days I will have to return to Rome to complete the move, never mind that this occasion will be a real pleasure trip.
Naturally, Rome will welcome us again in the coming months for Samuele's visits and in July for the surgery.

When you read this post we will have been in Reggio for a couple of days now, I wasn't able to publish earlier due to the many things to sort out at home.

As you will have understood from the opening aphorism in this post, I would like to talk about the home as a place of the heart, the perfect place suitable for everyone.

While I was driving on the return trip Reny and Samuele were sleeping and I was left alone with my thoughts for a bit and I started to reflect on this.

We found our house almost by chance, we had to buy one that was nearby but then, due to some problems, the purchase didn't materialize, by chance we noticed the for sale sign in the house that we now call home.

It was immediately love at first sight; this was a place with so much potential, the previous owners did not appreciate this house as they should have, they did not see the luck they had had and did not understand that they were wasting it; no big deal, after all their blindness was our luck.

I already told you in a previous post about the large outdoor space we can enjoy; a beautiful tiled courtyard with a large gazebo, a part of the garden used as a recreation and entertainment area and a large vegetable garden; naturally when we arrived it wasn't like that, everything was abandoned to itself and to transform it into the paradise it is today it took a lot of work and commitment... And we still haven't finished!

The same goes for the housing part too; the house is approximately 240 square meters large, there are large spaces, it is structured on three floors; on the first floor we have a large entrance, a huge living room, a kitchenette and a storage room; in the future we want to bring the kitchen here, make the entrance smaller and create a bathroom and use this part of the house as a living area given that, even currently, we spend most of the day here.

On the second floor there is our double bedroom and Samuele's small room, a walk-in closet and a very large bathroom.

On the third floor there is a lounge used as a hobby room, the actual kitchen which we will soon move to the first floor, my study and a bathroom.

When Samuele is older, this whole floor will become his room, in the hobby room we will remove the large sofa and put his bed and where the kitchen currently is we will make his walk-in closet... In short he will have a regal room, complete with private bathroom and study!

The second and third floors are surrounded by balconies, the one on the second floor also houses the laundry while on the third we have a closet full of stuff that doesn't fit in the house but which will basically end up in landfill sooner or later.

As you can imagine and understand a little from the images, we have a lot of space and, after the experience of the pandemic, we are happy with the solution found which would allow us to stay locked in the house for a long time without suffering too much and indeed, I really believe that we would be very happy.

Another thing we love about our house is its location; we live in a small hamlet in the municipality of Reggio Calabria.
We are practically in a small country village, few inhabitants and obviously we all know each other; human warmth, as you can imagine, is not lacking and there is also a lot of peace and tranquility.

Although we are outside the city, in practically ten minutes we can reach both the center of Reggio Calabria and that of Villa San Giovanni which is a smaller municipality but where everything is found, there is also a medium-sized shopping centre.

I always thought that the place I would call home would be a place of my heart, I confess that I didn't think I would find it in Reggio Calabria as, in the past, I fled my city many times.
Of course, in reality the fundamental thing is that he is together with Reny and Samuele; for me, regardless of the place, they are home.
Surely the place and the house in which we live and in which we will probably spend most of our lives is important to us.

We can fully say that we are madly in love with our house.

In a space like the one we live in we can organize many lunches and dinners together with friends and there can be many of us because there is no shortage of space; on beautiful summer and spring days we can enjoy the outdoor space and the children can have fun playing and running in the garden.

One of the most important things is that Samuele will be able to grow up playing in the open air in safety, breathing country air and not city smog, making friends and creating strong relationships with the children of the town who perhaps in the future will be friends with him for the life; in short we can say that it is a beautiful place for a child to grow up.

Among other things, even when he is a teenager, he will be able to reach the city center very easily and therefore he will have no problems perhaps meeting up with his school friends to go for a walk or to go out for a pizza, it may seem like nonsense or futile things but for a teenager these are very important things... After all, we were all seventeen, right?

Si parte per un nuovo viaggio!
A conti fatti per Samuele è il terzo, quantomeno di una certa lunghezza.
Rientriamo a casa e questa volta ci fermeremo.

Certo tra una decina di giorni io dovrò tornare a Roma per ultimare il trasloco, poco male un questa occasione sarà una vera e propria gita di piacere.
Naturalmente Roma ci accoglierà ancora nei prossimi mesi per le visite di Samuele e a Luglio per l'intervento.

Quando leggerai questo post saremo a Reggio ormai da un paio di giorni, non sono riuscito a pubblicare prima per le tante cose da sistemare a casa.

Come avrai capito dall'aforisma di apertura in questo post desidero parlare della casa come luogo del cuore, il posto perfetto e adatto a ognuno.

Mentre guidavo durante il viaggio di ritorno Reny e Samuele dormivano e sono rimasto un po' solo con i miei pensieri e mi è venuto da riflettere proprio su questo.

Abbiamo trovato la nostra casa quasi per caso, dovevamo acquistarne una che si trova vicino ma poi, per alcune problematiche l'acquisto non si è concretizzato, per caso abbiamo notato il cartello vendesi nell'abitazione che oggi chiamiamo casa.

È stato subito amore a prima vista; questo era un luogo con tanto potenziale, i precedenti proprietari non apprezzavano questa casa come avrebbero dovuto fare, non vedevano la fortuna che avevano avuto e non capivano che la stavano sprecando; poco male, in fondo la loro cecità è stata invece la nostra di fortuna.

Ti ho già parlato in un post precedente dell'ampio spazio esterno di cui possiamo godere; un bellissimo cortile piastrellato con un grande gazebo, una parte di giardino adibita a zona ricreativa e di divertimento e un grande orto; naturalmente quando siamo arrivati non era così, tutto era abbandonato a se stesso e per trasformarlo nel paradiso che c'è oggi c'è voluto tanto lavoro e impegno... E ancora non abbiamo finito!

Anche per la parte abitativa vale lo stesso discorso; la casa è grande circa 240 metri quadrati, ci sono ampi spazi, è strutturata su tre piani; al primo piano abbiamo un'ampia entrata, un grandissimo salone, un cucinino e un ripostiglio; in futuro desideriamo portare qui la cucina, rimpicciolire l'ingresso e ricavare un bagno e adibire questa parte della casa a zona giorno visto che, anche attualmente, la maggior parte della giornata la passiamo qui.

Al secondo piano c'è la nostra camera matrimoniale e la stanzetta di Samuele, una cabina armadio e un bagno molto grande.

Al terzo piano invece c'è una salone adibito a sala hobby, la cucina vera e propria che tra qualche tempo trasferiremo al primo piano, il mio studio e un bagno.

Quando Samuele sarà più grande tutto questo piano diverrà la sua stanza, nella sala hobby toglieremo il grande divano e metteremo il suo letto e dove c'è attualmente la cucina faremo la sua cabina armadio... Insomma avrà una stanza regale, con tanto di bagno privato e studio!

Il secondo e il terzo piano sono circondati dai balconi, quello al secondo piano ospita anche la lavanderia mentre al terzo abbiamo uno sgabuzzino pieno di roba che in casa non entra ma che sostanzialmente prima o poi finirà in discarica.

Come puoi intuire e capire un po' anche dalle immagini abbiamo tantissimo spazio e, dopo l'esperienza della pandemia, siamo felici della soluzione trovata che ci permetterebbe di stare, chiusi in casa anche per parecchio tempo senza soffrire poi troppo e anzi, credo proprio che staremmo molto bene.

Altra cosa che amiamo della nostra casa è la sua ubicazione; viviamo in una piccola frazione del comune di Reggio Calabria.
Siamo praticamente in un borghetto di campagna, pochi abitanti e ci conosciamo ovviamente tutti; il calore umano, come potrai intuire, non manca e non mancano anche tanta pace e tranquillità.

Nonostante ci troviamo fuori dalla città, in praticamente dieci minuti possiamo raggiungere sia il centro di Reggio Calabria che quello di Villa San Giovanni che è un comune più piccolo ma in cui si trova tutto, c'è anche un centro commerciale di medie dimensioni.

Ho sempre pensato che il posto che avrei chiamato casa sarebbe stato un posto del cuore, confesso che non pensavo lo avrei trovato proprio a Reggio Calabria in quanto, in passato, sono fuggito molte volte dalla mia città.
Certo in realtà la cosa fondamentale è che sia insieme a Reny e Samuele; per me, a prescindere dal posto, casa sono loro.
Sicuramente il luogo e l'abitazione in cui viviamo e in cui probabilmente passeremo gran parte della nostra vita è importante per noi.

Possiamo dire a pieno titolo di essere follemente innamorati di casa nostra.

In uno spazio come quello in cui abitiamo possiamo organizzare tanti pranzi e cene insieme agli amici e possiamo essere in tanti perché lo spazio non manca; nelle belle giornate estive e primaverili possiamo godere dello spazio esterno e i bambini si possono divertire giocando e correndo nel giardino.

Una delle cose più importanti è che Samuele potrà crescere giocando all'aria aperta in sicurezza, respirando aria di campagna e non lo smog di città, facendo amicizia e creando rapporti forti con i bimbi del paese che magari in futuro saranno suoi amici per la vita; insomma possiamo dire che per un bambino è un bellissimo posto per crescere.

Tra le altre cose, anche quando sarà adolescente, potrà raggiungere il centro cittadino molto facilmente e quindi non avrà problemi magari a incontrarsi con i compagni di scuola per fare una passeggiata o per uscire a mangiare una pizza, potranno sembra fesserie o cose futili ma per un adolescente sono cose molto importanti... In fondo siamo stati tutti diciassettenni, no?
