Mouth of the Azul River in Lago Puelo - Desembocadura del Río Azul en Lago Puelo

As I mentioned in my previous posts Lago Puelo National Park - A place where you can breathe energy / Parque Nacional Lago Puelo - Un sitio donde se respira energía and Puelo Lake Viewpoint - A trail to enjoy the scenery / Mirador del Lago Puelo - Un sendero para disfrutar del paisaje during the summer holidays of 2024 we visited the Park twice Lago Puelo National Park.

The first day we spent relaxing and enjoying the site without too many demands on our activities. We had spent quite a bit of time on the road the day before, and the idea was to keep the little ones entertained, so we decided to bring some food for lunch and enjoy the surroundings without too many plans. So, between lunch, playing games on the lakeshore, and a very short walk around the area, the day flew by almost without us noticing.

Lago Puelo is a very beautiful place, and we knew there were several trails we wanted to hike, so we decided to return the next day so we could enjoy at least two beautiful trails we didn't want to miss. We only had one more day in the city of El Bolsón, and the next day we would go to Puerto Patriada, another wonderful place we couldn't miss, which I'll surely tell you about in another post.

El primer día nos dedicamos a disfrutar del sitio de manera muy relajada sin demasiadas exigencias en cuanto a las actividades a realizar. El día anterior habíamos estado bastante tiempo en ruta y la idea era que las pequeñas se distrajesen, por lo cual decidimos llevar la comida para el almuerzo, y disfrutar de los alrededores sin demasiados planes. Fue así que entre el almuerzo, los juegos en la orilla del lago y un paseo muy cortito por los alrededores se nos pasó el día casi sin darnos cuenta.

Lago Puelo es un sitio muy lindo y sabíamos que había varios senderos que queríamos hacer y por ello decidimos volver al otro día, para ya un poco más descansados poder hacer al menos dos lindos senderos que no queríamos dejar de conocer. Solo nos quedaba un día en la ciudad del Bolsón y al día siguiente iríamos a Puerto Patriada, otro sitio maravilloso que no podíamos dejar de ir y del cual seguramente les contaré en otra publicación.

That's why we returned to Lago Puelo, more relaxed, with a day of rest, and we set goals of hiking two trails. The first was the Lago Puelo viewpoint, a beautiful spot about which you can see my post here.

The second hike we wanted to take was to reach the mouth of the Río Azul along the edge of the lake, and that's what we did.

Although the first trail to the viewpoint took a long time and was somewhat challenging, we decided to hike to the mouth of the Río Azul.

The Blue River is a place with many attractions to explore, but since the distances are quite long and challenging, we decided not to expose the little ones to adventures that would end up becoming too demanding.

Although the distance from the lake entrance to the mouth is quite considerable, the route is extremely simple since it borders the lake, making the terrain very easy and beautiful. The only obstacle we encountered was the desire to walk about a mile and a half. My oldest daughter was reluctant to walk at first but quickly agreed, and since the little one was already tired, she enjoyed the ride on my shoulders.

Por eso fue que regresamos a Lago Puelo, ya más relajados, con un día de descanso y nos pusimos como objetivos realizar dos senderos. El primero de ellos fue el del mirador del Lago Puelo, un sitio hermoso del cual pueden ver mi publicación aquí.

La segunda caminata que queríamos hacer era llegar hasta la desembocadura del Río Azul bordeando el Lago y así fue que hicimos.

Si bien el primer sendero del mirador nos llevó un buen tiempo y que requirió de cierta exigencia decidimos caminar hasta la desembocadura del Río Azul.

El Río Azul es uno sitio que tiene muchos atractivos para conocer, pero dado que las distancias son bastante largas y exigentes decidimos no exponer a las pequeñas a aventuras que se terminaran convirtiendo en una exigencia muy alta.

Si bien desde la entrada al lago hasta la desembocadura hay una distancia bastante considerable, el recorrido es sumamente sencillo ya que es bordeando el lago, por lo que el terreno es muy sencillo y bonito, el único obstáculo que se podía encontrar era las ganas de caminar cerca de un kilómetro y medio. Mi hija mayor se resistió a caminar en un principio pero rápidamente accedió y la pequeña como ya estaba cansada disfrutó del paseo sobre mis hombros.

Along the way, we were able to enjoy beautiful myrtle forests, which are very beautiful to observe due to their color and shape. As we walked among the myrtle trees, I noticed their wood is quite cold, which caught our attention. When we asked the park rangers, they explained that their temperature is due to their very thin bark, which is an adaptation of the plant for survival.

After a hike of just over forty minutes, enjoying the beautiful views of the lake and walking among myrtle trees, we arrived at the mouth of the Río Azul, one of the most iconic rivers in the area.

Unfortunately, the clouds and the weather played tricks on us, and we couldn't appreciate the color of the river, but we did appreciate its extreme beauty. I even dared to wade in up to my knees despite how cold the water was. After such a hike and being in the place I had so longed for, I wasn't going to leave without at least getting my feet wet.

The Blue River gets its name because the water's transparency allows you to see the reflection of the sky on its surface. Therefore, when the sun is overcast, while it's still very enjoyable, the visual impact isn't the same.

Beyond that, we enjoyed the walk and the postcards it offered us with every step.

After a few minutes, during which we took the opportunity to rest and contemplate the surroundings, we decided to head back to our car, not along the same route we had come, but along the riverbank.

En el trayecto pudimos disfrutar de hermosos bosques de arrayanes que son muy lindos de observar por su color y por su forma. En eso que paseábamos entre los arrayanes al tocarlos me dí cuenta que su madera es bastante fría, lo cual llamó nuestra atención. Cuando consultamos a los guardaparques nos explicaron que su temperatura se debe a que tienen una corteza muy fina, lo cual responde a una adaptación de la planta para la supervivencia.

Después de una caminata de algo más de cuarenta minutos, de disfrutar de las hermosas vistas del lago y de caminar entre arrayanes llegamos a la desembocadura del Río Azul, unos de los ríos más emblemáticos de la zona.

Lamentablemente las nubes y el horario nos jugaron una mala pasada y no pudimos apreciar el color del río, pero si su extremada belleza. Hasta me animé a meterme hasta las rodillas a pesar de lo fría que estaba el agua. Después de semejante caminata y des estar en el sitio que tanto había querido no me iba a ir sin al menos mojarme los pies.

El río Azul recibe ese nombre ya que la transparencia del agua permite ver el reflejo del cielo en el fondo, por lo cual cuando el sol está cubierto, si bien se puede disfrutar mucho, el impacto visual no es el mismo.

Más allá de ello disfrutamos de la caminata y de las postales que nos regalaba a cada paso.

Al cabo de unos cuentos minutos en los cuales aprovechamos a descansar y a contemplar el entorno decidimos ir hasta nuestro auto, no por el mismo sitio por el cual habíamos ido, sino bordeando la ribera del río.

At one point, we came across a tunnel made by vegetation, which blocked out any sunlight. We had to walk with our cell phone flashlights on, which the little ones really enjoyed.

The walk was very enjoyable, especially when we walked along the riverbank, where we found places to explore further on future visits.

Already tired, we decided to head back to the cabin to have dinner, rest, and recharge for the next day.

En un momento nos encontramos con un túnel hecho por la vegetación, por el cual no filtraba nada de luz solar, al punto que tuvimos que avanzar con las linternas de nuestros celulares activadas, lo cual le gustó mucho a las pequeñas.

Se disfrutó mucho de la caminata, sobre todo cuando recorrimos la ribera del río donde encontramos sitios para seguir explorando en futuras visitas.

Ya cansados decidimos emprender el regreso a la cabaña, para cenar, descansar y reponer energías para el próximo día.
