Karim Mustafa Benzema, un chaval de ascendencia argelina, que creció en Lyon, aterrizó en la capital española hace 14 años para hacer historia, convertirse en leyenda y, en el camino, hacer mejores a todos los Madridistas; los hizo más entendidos, menos enfadados y mucho más felices, formando parte fundamental de un Real Madrid que ha hecho historia y ha marcado una época gloriosa volviendo a imponer su escudo ante Europa y el Mundo entero.

Karim, aquel pequeño hijo de una familia de inmigrantes argelinos que, en Lyon, encontró su hogar, encontró en un par de árboles a sus mejores aliados para practicar aquel deporte que tanto le apasionaba pero no se le daba muy bien. Un pequeño que era tímido -y no ha dejado de serlo-, bajo de estatura, regordete y un poco torpe -de estos últimos adjetivos no queda ni rastro- creció irónicamente, para ser un jugador distinto; incluso, por momentos, incomprendido por su propia afición, la del Bernabéu que llegó a pitarle o a pedir su salida del equipo, afición que hoy lamenta su partida, le agradece aquellas catorce temporadas y le desea lo mejor en su exotico nuevo destino.

Quizá el bernabéu encontraba en Karim a una rara avis, un futbolista que siempre estaba entre los mejores pero para muchos se encontraba lejos de ser el mejor -sobre todo cuando Cristiano estaba en la escena-, sospechoso por su timidez, e incomprendido un varios sentidos, podría tacharse de indolente, a ratos discreto y desconectado, a veces incluso conflictivo fuera del campo, pero Karim es de esos futbolistas capaces de jugar en en el alambre hasta estallar en un Big Bang de fútbol exuberante y pletórico, que sacude a los rivales como si de manzanas cayendo de un árbol se tratase; solo basta recordar su acto de escapismo sobre la línea de fondo ante el Atleti.

Karim, the young son of a family of Algerian immigrants who, in Lyon, found his home, found in a couple of trees his best allies to play the sport he was so passionate about but was not very good at. A small boy who was shy -and he has not stopped being so-, short in stature, chubby and a little clumsy -of these last adjectives there is no trace left- he grew up ironically, to be a different player; even, at times, misunderstood by his own fans, the Bernabéu fans who came to whistle at him or to ask him to leave the team, fans who today regret his departure, thank him for those fourteen seasons and wish him the best in his exotic new destination.

Perhaps the Bernabeu found in Karim a rara avis, a player who was always among the best but for many was far from being the best -especially when Cristiano was on the scene-, suspicious because of his shyness, and misunderstood in many ways, he could be called indolent, at times discreet and disconnected, sometimes even conflictive off the pitch, but Karim is one of those players capable of playing on the wire until he explodes in a Big Bang of exuberant and plethoric football, shaking opponents as if they were apples falling from a tree; We only have to remember his escapist act on the back line against Atleti.
