El Arsenal vs Bournemouth por la jornada 26 de la actual temporada de la Premier League es uno de esos partidos dignos a ser premiados por la Academia del Séptimo Arte, y además puede tener como soundtrack perfecto la canción “Cherry Pie” de la banda estadounidense Warrant; los de Arteta se han montado un rock and roll absolutamente cargado de épica y con sabor al más dulce de los pays de cereza.
Los Gunners saltaban al terreno de juego con la presión de tener que ganar su choque ante los Cherries si querían mantener la distancia de 5 puntos sobre el Manchester City con la que encaraban el inicio de la jornada; los de Guardiola habían cumplido con sus deberes en el Etihad y derrotaron por marcador de 2-0 al combativo Newcastle de Eddie Howe por lo que al momento del silbatazo inicial en londres, la distancia entre Gunners y Cityzens era solamente de dos puntos. ¡Drama absoluto!

Del drama por la lucha en la cima de la presente temporada liguera, el Bournemouth, que es colero absoluto de la Premier siendo la oncena más goleada, decidiría escribir sobre la grama del Emirates, una película de terror para el graderío del conjunto londinense. Con tan solo 9 segundos y 11 milésimas, Philip Billing firmaba el segundo gol más rápido en la historia de la Premier League para mandar al traste toda la planificación previa de Arteta y su equipo de cara al encuentro. No habían transcurrido ni 10 segundos cuando las gradas del Emirates se hundieron en un sepulcral silencio por unos momentos mientras todos procesamos el hecho de los dirigidos por Gary O’Neil acababan de dictar un partido nuevo y muy distinto al esperado.
Por las mentes de cada jugador del Arsenal, de cada integrante del cuerpo técnico y de cada aficionado Gunner en el más recóndito de los rincones del planeta, pasaba el horror de saber que aquel resultado ponía al “Monstruo Celeste de 11 cabezas” a respirarles muy de cerca en la nuca, una imagen terrorífica que solo fue haciéndose más densa con el devenir de una Primera parte que los locales dominaron de cabo a rabo pero en la que se estrellaron en cada intento de alcanzar el empate; y si el horror no era aún suficiente, el Bournemouth lo haría mucho más estrepitoso con el córner ejecutado por Rothwel y el impecable remate de Senesi al minuto 57. 0-2 favor el Bournemouth.

Al minuto 70, Reiss Nelson, canterano del conjunto londinense que llevaba tan solo un minuto de rodaje en el terreno de juego, haría su primera aparición en la tremenda película a la que bien podríamos titular “El milagro del Emirates”. Nelson recibió la pelota por el sector izquierdo del área y centró para que Ben White, firmara el empate que ponía al Emirates patas pa’ arriba. y aún quedaban 20 minutos para soñar con el gol que culminase la remontada.

El Arsenal jugaba contra un rival de planteamiento estoico, uno que les había puesto contra las cuerdas, al tiempo que se enfrentaba contra el reloj que iba consumiendo sus segundos hasta el momento en que, el tiempo se frenó un instante tras el rechace defensivo que recogió Reiss Nelson para, con un obús de su pierna zurda, desatar el estallido de locura, un pandemonio en el Emirates sobre el ultimísimo suspiro de las hostilidades, cuando ya se había rebasado el tiempo de descuento. ¡Épica absoluta para mantener las distancias y el sueño intacto!
El Arsenal se ha servido un dulce pay de cereza y puede seguir soñando; los Gunners son el único equipo en la historia de la Premier League en haber encajado gol al primer minuto del encuentro y marcar el gol de la victoria rebasados los 90 minutos de juego, hoy ante el Bournemouth y en Agosto de 2007 ante el Fulham; además los Gunners no ganaban un juego en el que hubieran tenido una desventaja de dos goles desde 2012 -cuando derrotaron por 5-2 al Tottenham-. Reis Nelson ha producido cinco goles en los encuentros en los que ha participado entrando desde el banquillo esta campaña, tres goles y dos asistencias, más que cualquier otro jugador en la Premier. ¡No hay revulsivo más determinante!
Arsenal were playing against an opponent with a stoic approach, one that had put them on the ropes, while at the same time they were up against a clock that was ticking down the clock until the moment when time slowed to a crawl after a defensive rebound which Reiss Nelson collected with a left-footed howitzer to unleash a burst of madness, pandemonium at the Emirates in the very last gasp of hostilities, with injury time already passed. Arsenal have served themselves a sweet cherry pie and can dream on; the Gunners are the only team in Premier League history to have conceded in the opening minute and scored the winning goal after 90 minutes, today against Bournemouth and in August 2007 against Fulham, and the Gunners have not won a game in which they have been two goals down since 2012 - when they beat Tottenham 5-2. Reis Nelson has produced five goals in the games in which he has come off the bench this season, three goals and two assists, more than any other player in the Premiership. There is no more decisive player!
