We defended much more patiently in the second half. We won the ball well and played much better with it. We were clearly better and deserved to win. Our opponents have brutal quality and it was clear that we needed the fans. We played with a lot of passion and acted as a team. That's the key against PSG. If we combine maximum greed and emotion with the quality we have, we can achieve anything. - Julian Nagelsmann on the win over PSG and a place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

Bayern Munich have qualified for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the 21st time. No other club has reached the top eight in Europe so many times; history in football tends to weigh heavily, and anyone who thinks otherwise should ask PSG, who have once again said: Au revoir! to the dream of winning the most beautiful of all the "orejonas" (crowns), despite their million-dollar squad full of quality players line by line. When the ball rolls, money doesn't always buy happiness.

Qatar Sport Investments' multi-million dollar project has once again failed miserably, and the Bavarian side have been their executioners again, just as they were in the 2020 final. Bayern Munich had taken advantage at the Parc Des Princes in Paris and at their Allianz Arena they put the lid - with a bang - on yet another resounding failure for the Paris Saint-Germain side. Qatar Sport Investments have made the most expensive pair of signings in the history of football, and the zealous Champions League side has yet to succumb to the charms of its glittering squad; the "Orejon" is not easily dazzled by economic might.

180 minutes of play-off action elapsed between Paris and Munich and the Parisian side's potent attacking arsenal was not enough to generate a single goal; Neymar - only present in the first leg - Mbappé and Messi were unable to do any damage to Julian Nagelsmann's industrious Bayern goal. Spending €1599 million on top signings and not being able to aspire to compete strongly at the top level of European football must be a frustrating situation. All that glitters is not gold!

With the advantage gained in the first leg in the French capital, the Bavarians set up in their own backyard to offer a certain level of defensive withdrawal in an attempt to contain any Parisian rebellion from the outset. Nagelsmann's side have been a rock in their last few games in Europe, conceding just two goals in eight Champions League matches this season and going four games without conceding a goal; they have shut the curtain on the most ostentatious attacking trident in planet football.

The initial withdrawal of the Teutonic side opened the opportunity for PSg to find a way to generate an attacking presence, Messi had a chance that was smothered between Matthijs De Ligt and Yan Sommer and almost immediately the home side responded through Musiala who ended up crashing into the figure of Donnarumma. However, the clearest clearance of the first half came after a huge mistake by Bayern's Swiss goalkeeper who gave the ball away to Vitinha, who tried his luck at goal only to find Matthijs De Ligt's vital last-ditch save. 0-0 at the break.

After the restart, Nagelsmann's side upped the tempo and upped the tempo of their attacking play; a red tide began to lay siege to Donnarumma's area in earnest and Galtier's PSG could do little to stop it. In the 61st minute, all that attacking pressure from the Bavarian side paid off as Choupo-Moting, who had already made a warning 10 minutes earlier with a goal disallowed for offside by Thomas Müller, ended up capitalising on a mistake in the PSG defence; Müller robbed Verratti and combined with Goretzka who helped in the pressure to then assist the German-Cameroonian who made it 2-0 on aggregate in favour of the home side.

Choupo-Moting is not Lewandowski, nor is he even close to being one, and that it was him, with his modest profile, who ended up sentencing to death the most opulent squad on planet football today, is quite ironic, as the Bayern nine - who has been mocked and mocked on several occasions - played for PSG between 2010 and 2018. Life goes round in circles like a ball goes round in circles!

The Munich side's work was not quite finished, although Paris lay mortally wounded on the Allianz Arena pitch, the two glimpses of a possible Parisian reaction coming from the hand - or rather, the head - of Sergio Ramos who ran into Sommer for the first and connected with a barely deflected shot for the second. Football, as well as being ironic, can be cruel and Bayern killed off the tie in the 89th minute after another Verratti turnover, this time in three quarters of the pitch, and the home side made a quick transition on the counter for Cancelo to play Gnabry in and he made it 3-0 on aggregate. Bayern are history, Paris are just hysteria!
