The Philippine Eagle, often referred to as "Haribon," is one of the biggest birds in the world and is regarded as the national bird of the Philippines. It is the rarest species in the country.

The Philippine Eagle is around 2.5 feet tall and has a modest wingspan that can extend up to 7 feet. Its neck and shoulders are covered with thick, broad feathers that give the bird a beautiful look. These birds exhibit considerable intellect and a fear of God with their broad white heads and enormous eyes.

The Philippine Eagle is an endangered species due to the change in nature and human abuse of their natural habitats. It is found only in mountainous areas in Mindanao, Samar, Leyte, and Luzon. Currently, there are about 120 Philippine Eagles living in the mountains of Mindanao and only a few hundred in other parts of the Philippines.

The Philippine Eagle is a top predator in its habitat and eats large animals such as deer, wild boar, and the fruits that feed them. It also serves as a natural pest control by feeding on unwanted animals. Despite their large size and trade skills, the Philippine Eagle is a thorny and not often seen in its natural habitat.

The Philippine Eagle is an endangered species and requires immediate action to protect it from the risk of extinction. There are programs and projects carried out by governments and non-profit organizations to protect these birds and restore their population to normal.

Currently, there are breeding facilities and rehabilitation centers that are working to grow the Philippine Eagle population and return them to their natural habitat.

"Haribon" sounds cool and I must say that it makes us proud to have Philippine Eagles. I haven't seen one in person yet, but if ever I get the chance to see an actual Philippine Eagle, that would be great. ✨
