Cinetv Twitter Prompt: What is at the top of your watchlist?

So, todays @cinetv Twitter writing prompt asks the query of what movie lays claim to the precipice of you watchlist. I will admit that through these writing prompts and the interaction on our Discord, my watch list has grown exponentially and I'm am beginning to fear I will never make a dent in it at this rate! lol

Ok, on to the Twitter prompt. So I have always believed in there being no coincidences and that even the smallest event happens for a reason. The trick is figuring out what that reason is! lololol When I started to contemplate this prompt, I realized that I had seen The Shining pop up in our community feed on numerous occasions lately. So, for that reason and by the virtue of it being one of the best made films of all time, it is TOL(top of the list) for me!

A great deal of this had to do with a previous prompt inquiring the movie that was everyone's most scary and, as expected, many people choose The Shining. I also have seen quite a few reviews of the movie before and after the prompt and it urged me to think back to how the movie moved me and how impactful it was on multiple generations of movie watchers. Well the short answer is.....KUBRICK....of course, but he was able to tap into so many raw emotions, feelings, and fear we collectively possess as a society.

I feel that this movie strikes at our societal core on so many different levels that it will impact just about everyone in one way or another. For instance, let's take the main character who we watch helplessly as he descends through the levels of insanity until he is completely possessed by his fractured thoughts and full-blown psychosis. Who among us has not feel slightly unhinged from everything around us and that we were spinning slightly out of control? We have all had, even a momentary, pang of not being in control and the cold sting of just a touch of madness.

This ushers us to the dilemma faced by mother and son, Wendy and Danny. One of the most troubling thoughts to entertain is that there is a possibility we could be hurt by those we are closest to....that pain can come from the ones we love the deepest. Although fueled by psychosis and bit of the paranormal this situation is an archetype of what we all slightly fear on a much more subdued scale. Now, I'm not worried my wife is going to chop down the bathroom door on me after a rough night of questionable Mexican food.....but at of all the people on Earth she has the power and potential to hurt me the most. For, with her, above all others, I am vulnerable. Mentally, emotionally, and physically. My love for her opens me up to potential harm that we hope will not ever manifest.....but there is always that "what if"....is there not?

Well, there are a couple of short reasons why I feel this movie has impacted so many generations and how it has maintained staying power as a watched film. I definitely attribute these elements of why it makes the top of my list so ofter!
