A birdy day over here!

279.JPG

What is this at the birdbath? A serious shake to get the water off here by this Robin πŸ˜„

I bring you the Cape Robin Chat (Cossypha caffra) cleaning business today and also some birds that love the high strong winds.
Hope that your Saturday is good and come to see some action here today!

293.JPG

I love the way that the Robins bath, as they put such serious effort into their cleaning procedures!

291.JPG

Sopping wet and what a beautiful picture here!

329.JPG

After drying in the sun, he looks like a real new sixpence here!

330.JPG

And then it was time for him to leave, Robins have the habit of jumping up before they fly, and I was lucky to get this one launching.

Something special for you below to end this post!

175.JPG

Pied Crows (Corvus albus) are very playful, especially when there are strong wind thermals high up!

178.JPG

I could not zoom all four, but could get these two on the zoom and how's this for synchronized flying?

At times we see about fifteen crows playing about in the high winds and it is wonderful to see their circus acts in the sky.

And That's All Folks!

We have discovered a new area of small farms and plots late today and I will share some great photos of the wildlife there tomorrow. For now, the photos here were all taken at home and we hope that you have enjoyed the pictures.

I leave you with this:

β€œHealth is the new wealth. Happiness is the new rich. Inner peace is the new success. Kindness is the new cool.” β€”Syed Balkhi

Note: All photos are my own, unedited and cropped for uploading.

Wonderful to watch them bath, and he really looks like a new sixpence after his bath; or is it a she?
The Cape winds seem to have reached us here in Durbs, been extremely windy here today!
Enjoy your weekend my friend, blessings to you and your dear wife:)

Hahaha, nah, that one is a he Lady Lizzie, the female's tail is a bit shorter lol.
We had some rough winds these last few days and a great early cloud show this morning.
The rest of the day was clear and summary, but I hear that the rain will start later tonight.

Hope that your weekend is also turning out to be good and blessings also to you huys!

My aunt who lives in Gordon's Bay told me that today was a gorgeous day but that cold weather's on the way again. Your bad weather normally hits us 1 or 2 days later;) The frog choir is out tonight again! croaking tonight

Oh? You have an aunt in Gordon's Bay? It's a few miles from us and on a windstill day, it's a lovely place to visit.
Were you guys there during you holiday visit here?

I love that frog choir and when I did the Durban-Richards Bay Eskom towers that run all along the highway, I spent a few nights at an inspector's home in Pietermaritzburg. His home was on stilts next to a river and must have been a thousand bull frogs in that choir.

Blessings and I hope that you can get some rain that side!

I'm sure they're a sign of rain, they really know how to sing in harmony, but I still don't know how they all start and stop in unison and it really sounds like there's hundreds of them tonight. There's a river down in the valley.
My aunt flew up to Durban to come and look after Mom when we went to the Cape so we never got to see where she lives now but she spent time here till we heard about lockdown so her flight was changed so she could be back home in time, it was quite a mad scramble!

Oh yeah, now that you mention it, I also found it amazing my friend.
Do they have a leader? We don't know and how they can hear the leader in all of that noise? Maybe all of the frogs have built in timers lol.

Okay, I understand and a great thing out this mad scramble was that your aunt could see your mom lol.

Hope that you guys will have a good Sunday and a great new week!

Good afternoon Hannes,

Hahaha, yes that little guy is serious about his looks and maybe he is dating senior robin policeman's daughter lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Good afternoon Zac,

I would say, as long es the daughter of the senior robin policeman loves him, cleaning is less important than a big bank account, at least to the policeman πŸ˜‚ lol

Hi Hannes,

Hope that your Sunday was good thus far and we are wet here today.
I ran outside to get a short video of an emergency chopper rising up from the hospital, but had a shower at the same time 🀣

Oh yeah, with a big bank account anything is possible to get around a strict dad lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Hi Zac,

yes, I was very busy the whole day long and could edit many photos. I almost forgot to finalize my post πŸ˜‰
A boy with a big and legal (of course;) bank account would always be welcome in my home 😁

Great stuff that you got so much done Hannes,

That departure from the EL has certainly given you more time and I am happy for you.

Btw. I kept something for you. Check this out!

At what time are you posting tonight?

Oh no, I haven't noticed yet to have more time πŸ˜‰ but as long as it makes fun it's okay anyway 😁

Thanks for the link - there are a few which I know from images. They are beautiful, of course and most of ours are only small castles, but a few are certainly comparable.

My post is already online - if I post then I always try to post at 7pm.

It all depends on what you see as fun Hannes, as to me it usually means more work elsewhere hahaha.

I think you know that I didn't send the link to you as a comparison, but rather due to your and my love for castles. We also have some efforts here, but nothing like you guys have in Austria, not even to speak of the castles in that link.
By the way there is a few of those popular ones that I don't like, as I am more of a medieval castle man.

Your post has been visited my friend, but if I know you than you are already aware of it.
Sorry that I couldn't give you a bigger vote than 100% lol.

Cheers and thanks!

I don't comment as much on other posts anymore as I did before, but I will begin again when I have more time.
With "fun" I mean it still makes fun reading comments and replying.

Yes, I know that, but I had to compare them with a few or our castles which I know ;)

Thanks for visiting my post Zac 😁

I only started my daily post at 8pm I think and are now doing all of the comments and replies.
But if I cannot finish them by 11pm, the rest will have to wait until tomorrow.

Btw. Thank you for helping me with engagement efforts.

Hope to chat tomorrow, but if not, such is life lol.

Thank you my friend and all is well in Palestine at the moment lol.
Paradise has become Palestine for a while and an evil spirit made it's way through, but we have beaten it by the looks of things. Some surprising things were revealed in the drug story, but this is not the place to talk about it.

All that I can say is that people are not always who they pretend to be and it's sad and ugly when the truth is revealed!

Cheers and blessings!

I can only agree about people being false - I have met quite a few in my life.

Haven't we all Hannes,

But strangely enough, sooner or later it all comes out and then they fall apart.
As is the case currently here with the drug couple that is playing the old lady to get money out of her.
The sad thing is that now that the old lady has heard all of the false stories that they told her, she continues to see her son as innocent and blames the young girl. Even though she admits that her son takes drugs.

There is only so much that one can do and if people won't listen then we step aside.
So be it!

Cheers and thanks!

You helped, or at least you tried to help, and as you say, if they don't listen I would also go my way and don't care anymore.

That old lady was here again today Hannes.

Her son is sitting here at home and she wants me to drive all the way today the the city (Cape Town) to go and talk to the son's girlfriend as she is refusing to leave the hotel lobby where the son booked her in.
Marian gently refused and told her that her son is the cause and that he has to fix his own problems.

I have driven the old lady all over the place yesterday, but nothing changed as the son was with the girl and now that he is a little bit sober he came home without the girl.

So, from now on no go, if they don't want to help themselves, then there's nothing that we can do.

I am sure that you would do the same!

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, I would do the same - the mother believes in her son, that's understandable, but one day she will wake up and see herself what's going on.

Cheers and !BEER and I wish you a good night Zac 😊

No, no, Hannes, we have discovered the truth, she knows what's going on.
Let me just say here that as far as we are concerned it's over. Finished and Selah.

I hope that you sorted your daughter with the laptop.

May you guys also have a good and peaceful night Hannes.

Blessings, thank you for all of the chats and the tohens!

Having a serious Spring clean, lovely capture of the hop before flight, fascinating little bird is the robin-chat.

Pied crows flying in tandem turned into another great capture with them honing their flight acrobatics on high.

Have a wonderful day Stephen, trust your back is not playing up too poorly of late!

Yes indeed and so glad that we have the Robins nesting here Lady Joan.
They are however dominated by the pair of Thrushes that are also nesting here.
Such is life.

Strong winds make many birds to seek for hiding places, but the Pied crows seem to be in their element in the winds.
I was watching the wind whipping the thin high palm around today, but the crows come an go unperturbed by the movements to feed their baby in the crown of the palm.

So that baby being blown all over the place will also become a champion storm wind flyer. Hopefully he will not fall out like the one that we had to rescue last year lol.

The back is holding up my friend and I do exercise every now and then lol.

Hope that you guys are having a good Sunday!

I love watching birds using a birdbath

and thats something i did not know about robins jumping before they fly, now I will be watching to see that myself ;)

Remember though that Robins can also just take off at times, but their jump is the cutest thing JJ.
They normally flip their tails up when they jump, but I caught this guy after he flipped his tail.

Here is one that's about to jump.

Hahaha, the amazing thing as always is that the birds bath while it's raining here Lady Melinda.
We are close to the ocean and the rain water here has a salt content they wash off in the bird bath lol.

I read an amazing research article today on humming birds in the Peru mountains.
Did you know that the little birds can drop their temperatures from 40C to 3C in order to cope with the cold weather? They can also slow their heart rates down to enter a state of "Torpor" in very cold conditions.

Nature is so amazing and I think that I should do a post about it!

Blessings!

The hummers use so much energy that they need to eat frequently. They go into topor at night. Such amazing little creatures indeed! Speaking of which, I need to go fill their feeder!

Ah! So you know about the torpor and I didn't as we don't have hummingbirds here.
Our little sunbirds also hover like the hummingbirds, but I will have to have a look to see if they can also hibernate.
Interesting little creatures.

Yeah, and don't forget to fill the bird bath hahaha.

Blessings!
