A bit out of the ordinary.

We moved recently and had to get some plants for our garden, so we popped in at a nursery.

He was parked in front of the nursery and I asked him if he had a driving licence:)
Who me? he said, I have been driving since you were still wearing nappies:)

Any case let's get back to the nursery. It is a massive place out in the countryside with miles of open spaces. Very professional and they cater for all in the flower and farming industry. They also offer talks and shows to the public about gardening, planting and pruning methods, soil health and vegetable cultivation. We have many new small scale vegetable growers around that grow their own food and any of their questions about the trade are answered here.

Talking about seasons, the peach blossoms tell us that it is now the Spring season in South Africa.

Some beautiful displays of plants for sale all over the place.

I liked the artistic layout of this set and things were all purple, blue and even some pink.
But what were those twirly things on the center pole?
048.JPG

They were whachamaycallit things that twirl in the wind and here below is a closer shot.

But then of course I was out of there and I left Marian (my wife) to select the plants that she wanted, as I am a dead loss when it comes to things like flowers.
So I stepped into the backyard of the place.

What a beautiful kiddies pool here below.

Many tables and chairs for coffee, snacks and cakes for moms that bring their kiddies to the nursery.

A stretch of bamboo wall with some hand-crafted beady birds on it.

Mister owl was my favorite. Why? because I used to play marble games with those big green eyes as a kid.
065.JPG

Yes, I am sure that the children will absolutely love to come here.
084.JPG

That green roofed building is the restaurant that is attached to the nursery and I have shown you a bit of the seating for the moms on the veranda above.

Finally to sit with a cup of coffee under the moon is always a great experience. Especially in the clean mountain air.
060.JPG

A great experience and as soon as I have planted all of the flowers, as we also brought many of our own pots of flowers along when we moved in here, I will show you our finished garden.
Unfortunately, it only has a small front garden and a small back garden that is surrounded by very high walls. So the sun can barely shine in the back garden due to the high walls.
The plan, thus far, is to plant vegetables in the back garden and flowers that are sunbird and butterfly friendly in the front garden.
As we arrived back from the nursery today, I put the plants out and there were already a few little birds that came to inspect the goods.
Such is life here.

I hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and the story.

It looks and sounds like an awesome nursery @papilloncharity.
If you don’t mind me asking……..where is it?

It is called Cape Garden Nursery and it's at the entrance to the Sir Lowery's Pass on the way to Hermanus. A great place to spend some time.

Ah bliksem……..after my initial response my churning mind bothered me and couldn’t help thinking something was up and wanted to solve it so I would be able to sleep later 😅
About 2-3 months ago I did a sub project management contract of construction/ setting up a Krispy Kreme franchise store in the Somerset Mall. It involved a lot of killer nighttime hours because noisy construction isn’t allowed during shopping hours. I therefore also stayed at four different nearby places for a week each as travelling all the way from Muizenberg at any hour in the night wasn’t going to be on in my book.
For the first week I stayed in a room at Hoogland Manor which “get to route” passes the nursery on that dirt road. From day 1 I wanted to look at the nursery but day time sleeping/ tiredness prevented it happening and all I could think of when I drove past that monkey “land/world” signboard was that I look like the monkey on the billboard for doing what I was for donuts🥴😅
Definately will have a look next time 👍

Ah, so you solved it and had a good sleep I presume?

Strange that you mentioned the contract at the Krispy Kreme franchise, as long ago I also had to re-vamp 5 Wimpy restaurants. They would strip the restaurants and then I would travel to the town with 3 vehicles. A truck with all of the counters, bulkheads, ceiling boards, seats and everting else. Then a flatbed with all of the tools machines and staff and finally me in my own bakkie.

We had a time frame for each job and we also had to work nightshift out of hours and I simply stayed in my bakkie to save costs. 2 weeks of sleeping in a bakkie on a job was never easy, but the money was good.

Maybe also pop into Monkey town when you get there and don't miss the snake shows.
Hope that you will enjoy it.

Yip, the body clock feels a bit rested thanks 🥴
That is awesome about the wimpy fit outs and can fully appreciate what it took and also with sleeping in the bakkie to save. Nice one. Although tough at the time it provides a good feeling of accomplishment once done 👍
I was pretty sad that I never managed to get to monkey town after driving past it a few times a day within touching distance of it. Feels like the saying “been there, got the t-shirt” after taking photos of their billboard but never going in 😅
Will definitely do a trip sometime to visit the nursery & monkey town.

I have many stories about sacrifices my friend as I had to keep a roof over the heads of my 3 children.
So it was work, work and more work !LOLZ

Not to stress about monkey town as I am sure that you will get there one day 👍😊

That's an amazing place, a good nursery where your wife could choose plant or flowers she loves.

The place is relaxing too and I am glad they are using bamboos and it looks so net.

Thank you and yes, I like to keep my wife happy and she loves flowers. So she picks the plants and I do what I like, to take photos !LOLZ

Yes it does have a kiddy park for the young ones to play while mommy is either buying flowers at the nursery or having lunch at the restaurant. A very comprehensive development :)
