A huge Sunday surprise.

Now why would Marian fill a ditch in the road with water?
210.jpg

Actually two surprises and the second one was bigger than the first one.

As we returned home, we found that the scheduled power black out never happened. We had prepared for it as we received a notice that the power would be off from 10am to 12:30pm, but true to form it wasn't done.
Then the second surprise occurred.

Guess who this little fellow is?
130.jpg

To our surprise Harry and Sally arrived with their crop of gosslings.
9 of them which meant that a few had already been taken by predators.
We knew where they were going, as it is hot here today with no rain.
212.jpg

Straight to the new "pool" that Marian made for them.
214.jpg

Yep, everyone was thirsty in the hot sun and the little ones were delighted with the pool.
220.jpg

Enjoying themselves and some even tried to swim, but the pool was too shallow.
142.jpg

Sally said to Harry, "You better keep an eye out for that damn tomcat Noel"
216.jpg

A lovely time that the little ones were having in the road.
260.jpg

Cool fresh water on a hot day is always refreshing.
155.jpg

The fun was over and Sally got them all out of the water to preen and relax.
163.jpg

Now Harry could have a little catnap, as he had a torrid time the whole morning watching the kids.
180.jpg

But at the faintest strange noise, he is immediately awake again.
179.jpg

I have to apologise, as I was wrong, the geese with the youngsters at the hospital was not Harry and Sally.

Couldn't have been as here they are today with their gosslings.
Harry has already had a scrap here this afternoon with one of the tenant's dogs and Noel the cat is still nowhere to be seen.
The big question is, will this crop survive, or will all of the little ones be taken again by predators.
Time will tell.

And That's All Friends!

Awww... that's so cute!
Being able to capture them while they drink and frolic the man-made puddle is so precious.
Oh... they aren't Harry and Sally?
Nevermind! They all look the same!

Hahaha, yes and I would rather say that it was woman-made puddle 🤣
Us men would make better puddles 🤣🤣🤣

They might have been Harry and Sally with their first litter, as the geese have a new bunch every 4 months. That first bunch looked about 4 months old, but we will never know.

They do indeed all look the same and we have the same problem with the squirrels, so we cannot name them.

I am going to try a !LUV here.

hmmm... you know that I am a girl, yeah?
I think the puddle is done just right, hehehe!
Is that right... A litter every 4 months! Wow!

Oh yes, sorry that I forgot as I thought your name was Klaus, or Gerbrant or something like that hehehe.
Of course you will say that the puddle was done right, womens lib and all that stuff.
Yep, amazing and we said goodbye to them today as they walked out of the main gate with their babies.
I think that they were on their way to the hospital premises.

Hope most of them make it to adulthood, we have your rain here today, we also have had loadshedding yesterday, again all afternoon today.... never ending story!

New family appear appreciative of efforts made by Marian to take water out to make them a small pond.

Have a fun Sunday!

Glad that you have the rain and sad about the black outs.

Marian knows what they like and Sally also led the crowd here into our garden for some snacks.

I am trying with a !LUV

You can be glad Marian is not in this province with all these monkeys going through daily.

Yes they look cute but a major menace, we don't feed them they take everything including bird nests. Troops are running wild like the people having more and more young ones troops run into 30's in number each female no matter how young has a baby hanging on!

Have a wonderful new week sorting out timing between having electricity and not!

Hahaha, yes indeed I am glad Lady Joan as I know those monkeys.
I even had to have my bakkie windows closed and had a false snake on the dash when we worked on the electricity towers down there. But even worse than the monkeys were the humidity.

We had one scheduled for today at 9am, but it never occurred and I think the Steenbras dam power generation keeps us covered. But we get them occasionally, and one just never knows when. Like playing dice.

Hope that you guys also have a good week even with the hassles.

When they try come into the home I grab a pot and metal spoon then scare them on their way, not much scares them either!

We on rotational loadshedding for most of the week with two, two hour outages per day at the moment already had one this morning and another around midday.

Enjoy you day!

Hahaha, I can just imagine you standing there rattling a spoon in a pot and a monkey male saying to his mates, come on she is ringing the lunch bell.

Oy Vay, that swounds like normal news when wwe were up in Joburg.
Nothing here yet, but we are expecting it.
They are erecting large windfarms here and soon the Western Cape will be off the grid according to what's being said here.
Thus far we have only the Steenbras dam to thank.

!BEER and hope it works.

Can use it like a drum they definitely do not like it and run off then glare back!

All talk no action will be like this for many years to come, 30 years to dismantle will take 80 to rebuild with rising numbers and lack of funding, we will see no change in our lifetime.

So, I will call you the "Drummergirl" Lol.

Now that is a scary statement, especially now that all of the exerienced staff at the Koeberg nuclear power station are emigrating. They are saying that Capetonians should be very scared. Should it go the same way as Eskom, then there might not be much of the country left that could be restored in the future.

If she blows is a very scary thought, there was talk at one time of putting another one up the road, plenty talk no action does not really matter now since it takes years to build and commission.

Start learning to make smoke signals, yes I will keep flogging that pot to keep mischief away!

Oh yes we will all be in very serious trouble and in fact half or more of the country will be in trouble. Talk about a black out, it will be more of a blow out. Another worrying factor is the storage of the nuclear waste and there are also stories about other countries sending their nuclear waste here.
Mankind certainly knows how to destroy nature.

Hahaha, that pot sounds like the ideal weapon and I will tell Sandra up in Bain'skloof pass about it, as they are comming here to their house for the weekend.

Green, Yellow and Black the colours of bruising, well now the red appears, look no further to more years.... No let us keep to nature, try every little thing to remain stable with what we have.

Remember my weapon will only work for a short while, they are very clever knowing I do no harm, hope it is only monkeys and not baboon they are another story!

Seems that we don't face a rosy future Lady Joan, but we simply have to face it.

Sandra sent me another photo of that big male baboon peering through her window.
He knows that he got food there once and I think that before things get worse they will have to make a plan, as she is alone there during the day. No match for an angry baboon.
We are having lunch with them tomorrow down at the beach, as they are here for the weekend and then I will discuss the issue with them. A plastic snake on every window sill might work.

Plastic snakes don't work, even the monkeys worked that out very quickly.

Close windows and doors when close to home, bring pets in as well, I doubt much else will hold them out.

Just arrived from a lovely beach walk with Woody, great blue skies and fresh breeze on the air, a total pleasure!

We had lunch this afternoon at Ocean Basket that looks out over the beach and the ocean and the Bain'skloof pass couple was with us. Sandra said that the male baboon was chasing her cat. So yes, she closes everything and keeps the cat inside.

Johan, her husband is picking up hints from the local farmers about how to keep the baboons away.

Great that you also had a beach walk.

Baboons are a massive problem, only solution I have heard from farming community is they do shoot to make a noise not kill to chase them, how long that will work who knows with intelligent beasts.

Going to put a cross on a piece of paper shortly, happy new month let us but hope for a better tomorrow.

Yeah, they have it right here as the baboons only stay in the mountain pass.
Somebody must have convinced them that they don't want to come down here.
I have never seen one on the farms or in the town.

Happy voting my friend.

In the Berg we witnessed them ripping through thatch roof in an attempt to obtain entry into cottages, building on their path used they will try obtain access. At least in the mountains you have biggish cats that my still control their numbers.

Vote done and dusted, sadly many more rural folk do not go for fear of intimidation so not really a democracy then!

I have often wondered if there are leopards in the Berg Lady Joan. Never seen one there and no tracks either. At the one place that screamed the home time late every afternoon and his bark echoed through the valleys. So I am sure that if there was a leopard, he would know where the apes are.

I heard that there was also some tampering with the ballot boxes and one can only wonder about the counts. Only a sham of democracy here.

Some bigger cats are up there, you will never see them moving at night mostly, who knows one day you may get lucky!

Many did not vote in this province due to being too scared to go to the poll stations, that alone is a great loss in itself. Hopefully cracks will start showing after this round of voting, they will have to learn to work together in a more balanced democracy.

!PIZZA

I don't think that I will see the Berg again in my lifetime Lady Joan.
But there is enough leopards down here, so hopefully soon I will get one.

So sad isn't it? They rather sow division between the races to score political points than uniting everyone and working hand in hand. We, the people that they are supposed to serve, means nothing to them and that's why this country could go down the tubes.

Given time will pontificate where we go... Still hoping to see leopard in the St Lucia area where we know they live!

Cannot fathom low numbers not even 9M votes cast with 26M registered, country of 55M people. Speaking to locals here many are too scared to go to voting stations due to possible backlash by prominent people in districts.

Family in Jo'burg found waiting in queues for hours to be told they at the wrong site, or machines are down, many went home in despair just give up waiting, phoned their local council leader to report, what else can one do?

64 hung municipalities with 98% of the votes counted this morning? This is possibly a true reflection on how broken South Africa actually is!

I really hope that you will get one on camera Lady Joan.

Funny how they spin the utterly successful voting system. A taxi was found filled with ballot boxes and the seals were tampered with. Makes one to wonder how many other incidents like this took place.
Of course nothing will happen and the story will be buried.

Oh yes and I also read of other incidents where the people got tired of the long waits in the rain and they left en masse.

Now it's all about coalition talks and everyone wants to be in charge in order the earn the highest salaries. Laughable if it wasn't so sad.

Actually politics has become a dirty business in most parts of the world. Number turnout is disgusting considering people fought for democracy for so long, well now don't complain!

Enjoy loadshedding now they have the results it will be full steam ahead how can we screw you next!

What a lovely story Zac, I have had absolutely no clue what Marian was going to do with the water 😁
These goslings look younger than the ones at the hospital, but sooo cute when playing in the water 😍 I hope they will all survive.

Good evening Hannes,

Hahaha, I did put Marian there in a trick question.

Yes, the gosslings is their second batch and the Egyptian geese can give birt every 4 months, so those youngsters at the hospital look about 4 months old.
I have 20 minutes ago seen Harry and Sally go out of our main gate on their way to the hospital with the babies.

Sadly I had to say goodbye to them today, as they led the babies out of the main gates of our complex and they were on their way to the hospital.
074.jpg

I will do a post on this.

Cheers and thanks.

Good evening Hannes,

yes you are right as both Harry, this morning and Sally now came to eat here today.
So, I heard that the babies are in the hospital premises with the other youngsters and the parents are working shifts. They come here seperately to eat and then return to the babies.
We are so glad, as the babies are safe there.

Cheers and thanks.

Good evening Hannes,

A bit late becuase of thesr damn power cuts. Just psted my second post now.
Yes, the babies are derinitely safer there.

Ons day I want a big garden to build a pond like this,
264.jpg

No stray cat can walk on it and if a raptor bird flies over the, geese can simply dive down.

Cheers and thanks.

Good evening Zac,

never mind, I am also late today.
Yep, such a pond would be great and a nice place to sit and relax and enjoy the peace on the water. Additionally the geese are quite safe, just as you say.

Good evening Hannes,

Such is life my friend as the hours wait for no one 😉

Hahaha, just an empty dream as I will never have the money to buy a large property for a pond like that. But you are right as it is an ideal place to protect the babies.
Thankfully we can sit in peace next to the pond, so we don't need to buy a large property 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Thank you Lady Neli and yes Marian knows their likes very well.
Sadly we had to say farewell to them today, as they walked out of the main gate into the road on their way somewhere. It's their normal routine.
