A love story of Malachite Sunbirds.

First I will show you the lovely female and then her attractive husband.
108.JPG

They were both enjoying a drink of nectar on the Protea Pincushion flowers. And you can see what a lovely figure she has.

It is the official opening of our Spring season here in South Africa today, on the 1st of September. The strange thing is, that the weather experts say the Spring has started already in July. How confusing is that? But I have to admit that I am getting to know the weather very well, since we moved here 4 years ago as I always keep an eye on it. And this July, supposed to be our coldest month of the Winter, was nothing like that. Some fruit trees even started to blossom, and we saw dragonflies and butterflies.
Never seen this before in July.
Come and look at this romantic couple.

Ever so daintily she lifted in a jump to the next flower.
113.JPG

And here was her lover on another Pincushion flower.
124.JPG

So he popped up to the top and gave the lovers call.
128.JPG

She popped up into a tree and returned the call for him to know where she was.
116.JPG

Look how excited she danced when he arrived.
119.JPG

I wish my wife would get so excited every time that she sees me :)
She could also open her wings (arms) and sing a little tune of love while she tripped around like a thoroughbred mare, to show her excitement. Instead she sees me as a donkey that's going to tramp mud onto her polished floors. But alas, we have been married too long and if at first she sees me upon my sudden arrival, the first thing that she would say is, Did you wipe your feet :)
Such is life.

And That's All Friends.

You have some beautiful birds. Ours tend to be a bit dull unless you are lucky enough to see something like a kingfisher and I've only glimpsed one once so far.

Our better halfs may take us for granted, but I think they would miss us if we weren't there :)

Pity about your bird situation, but such is life.

Totally agreed, but we dare not tell them that. Women are very sensitive beings and they take offence so often. She might think that when we remind here about it, that we mean that she is helpless :)

It's not so bad with the birds. We get some variety from friendly robins to soaring red kites. I think I saw another sparrowhawk in the garden this week, but it was only for a moment.

Great that you at least see some other birds, and yes, I love to get the kites on camera. At one of our previous homes, I had a great relationship with a black-shouldered kite and I have some fond memories and photos of course that I have posted before.
Those sparrowhawks are always very fast and we have one here that scatters the doves every afternoon. I have seen him briefly twice now and hope to get him on camera soon.

What interesting behavior they have. Usually the male dances, flies, shows himself and so on in front of the female. The birds are beautiful.

Ours rather flutter like a hummingbird in front of the female in a tree and then they both take off at a crazy speed. Thank you and glad that you liked it.
