A sample of South African beauties.

Some of our classy insects to show you their beauty.

Now what could that be on the lady's back in the water?
It is a dragonfly that I will show you in the next photo.

We had a short break today and I was able to get some photos in nature.
There is a heady variety of insects now in the spring season and they are all over the place. The only insects that I am allergic to are bees, but not for the rest of them. Not that the allergy worries me as I still take macro shots of bees.
So come and look what I got to show you.

This was a Cape Skimmer dragonfly and I caught him in flight.
(Orthetrum julia capicola)

And here was a snail in my fishtank.

Only joking as the rain had stopped and he was on our study window.

Here we had a black Giant Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa flavorufa)

Look! Instead of one straw he has two straws and he was covered in pollen.

This is a female Carpenter Bee in flight (Xylocopa caffra)

Finally I will show you a little Tropical Bluetail (Ishnura senegalensis).
A damselfly here on a lotus flower.

Amazing beauty that the small things have and it's always a pleasure to watch them at work and zooming around. Busy little things that don't even know that they pollinate flowers in their hunt for nectar.

But what is Pollination? basically sex between flowers hahaha.

Entomophily or insect pollination is a form of pollination whereby pollen of plants, especially but not only of flowering plants, is distributed by insects. What is pollination and how does it work?
Pollination is the act of transferring pollen grains from the male anther of a flower to the female stigma*.

This is why insects and birds play a very essential part in nature and without them nothing will grow and we will lose our fruits and food.
So next time when you want to kill an insect by force, or with poison, think about what they do in nature.
Catch them and put them outside.

And That's All Friends!
