A showpiece of note.

He said, Ah! You with the camera again, come and can you never leave a guy in peace?.
110.jpg

I knew that he saw me, but I was at a distance and so I shouted at him to give me a show.

A fun post to show you my version of a Black-headed Heron (Ardea melanocephala) and it's a bit unusual, as he was sitting on a branch cleaning and pruning himself. That first look that he gave me in the first picture, was the most unusual picture that I have ever got of a Heron.
So come and enjoy his show.

Oh! He said, first let me call my agent for permission to model, as I presume that you want the show for free again?
109.JPG

Shame, my agent knows your charity and I worry about that a bit.
101.JPG

I hear that you feed poor people and I worry that you will try to catch me and fry me like you do with the poor chickens, that you feed the street people with. I can assure you that I don't taste half as nice as the chickens do and I eat worms.
100.JPG

Anxiously he stood and watched me.
107.JPG

And the little Double-collared sunbird also watched me anxiously, but I assured the heron that I will never try to catch any of them.
125.JPG

Postscript.

That's where I saw him first, up on a high tree and I switched to my zoom.

Like I said above, just some unusual fun, to bring you a bit of nature's peace on a Sunday. One can never know what one can get on a camera on a walk in nature and let me tell you that I was mightily impressed with that first photo. I have posted heron's before, both on land and at the sea, but it doesn't come close to what I saw here. Obviously, I had to give the heron a voice (in Italics) to tell you his side of the story and with a bit of fun added all tuned out well.

I hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and the story.

And That's All Friends.

For sure, one of the funniest heron poses I've seen; great capture! :)

Indeed, the conversation with the heron turned out to be very realistic, looking at her reaction in the photographs, but I think there is a record in her genome "I'm not tasty", lol. Great photos, Nectariniidae is great :)

Fun in the sun with a Heron between rain showers, believe you have had quite a lot of rain.

Great story line and photography.

Thoughts are with those in the region, bitterly cold I hope electricity is restored quickly and low laying townships get assistance in hot food and warm clothing.

Thank you and after 23 hours, we are live now again.
The standby rescue teams are helping those in need and many including us are doing our bit.

Good to hear you back up once again, some parts here still days/weeks without power, taking a long time to get this city back up and running.

Teams within private groups still doing the best by sending food and blankets to those up in the hills unable to afford either.

What is it now, 2 years after the damages and still struggling to repair to repair things?

Yes, that's the way to do things and we also work in partnerships with other institutions.

Floods April 2022 were devastating, ANC run Province.

Amanzimtoti falls under city of Ethekweni, even though DA run, it falls under ANC and requires their permission for everything. Most repairs and cleaning done by the local town folk.

A sad situation and it should be the government that rushes teams in to do the repairs. But no such luck.
Trust the locals to do everything.

Money is not the problem as there is plenty. It's the management, as I read today that only 4% of the capital rescue grant was spent. Sacrilege.

Well, some good news at last. They are partnering with a company that erects quake proof 3D houses and a house takes only 5 days to build. A steel and polymer construction combined with a special concrete mix. I haven't seen a picture of a house yet, but everyone is talking about it. Apparently it is very smart.
So, there's always hope.

Always some hope at the end of a tunnel, private enterprise will slowly reorganize once elections are completed next year.

Very interesting to read the opinions about the elections.
South Africans are fighters and we have always risen against the odds, even if the Algoa is not renewed by the USA.

As long as free and fair, whoever gets in look after the people, not lining their own pockets.

Last sanctions a totally different ball game, we became stronger and proved we could stand alone, those days are gone....

Never to happen as long as power and personal luxury are the drawcards. "We have to eat a little bit" seems to be the motto.

Yep! That is one big truth.
