A visit to the park.

This is also one of our favourite places to visit, as it is very peaceful.

There was also another reason for our visit, that I will show you at the end of the post.

The wind was up but unfortunately it could not break the blazing heat in the day, so just imagine two figures jumping out of a car and rushing to the nearest tree for shade. And this is how we walked to the park from one tree to another. But at least I had a good time to get some shots in to show you around, as the walk was slow and pleasant.

Many people also walk their dogs in this park, and as a river runs along the one side, with deep pools, people let their dogs swim in it. I have posted it over the years, several times before, as we love this park. We have been at two dog shows here, as well as a tree planting day with plaques for everyone's departed animals, and we come by for pancakes and coffee at a mobile food truck. During Covid it was a lifeline. People were allowed to walk here, as long as they kept their distance and wore their masks.

First stop was to have a look at the river.

And then we watched how the wind was stripping the fluff off some bulrushes.

The fluff was flying around all over the show, stripping the bulrushes bare.

This is one of the tallest trees in the park.

This used to be our favorite bench to sit, as it had a very big tree behind it offering much shade.

Look at the trunk size of the tree behind the bench, but sadly it had to be cut down because an invasive pest, called the borer beetle, ruined the tree.

And finally, here below was the other reason why we visited the park.

That is the tree that we planted in memory of our little dog that died, and my wife painted that plaque that you see.

We regularly keep an eye on the tree, and it is growing unbelievably fast.

I cannot help it, but every time that I look at that tree that we planted for our little Troy, it brings both sad and wonderful memories to me. He was a small Chihuahua, but not the very small type. He had longer legs and he liked to challenge dogs ten times his size. On our way down to the Cape, when we relocated, we stopped at a service station and people get out of their cars to stretch their legs after travelling a very long distance.

We also got out of our car, we put Troy's leash on, and just as well as we did as a guy that parked near us also got out with his dog on a leash. Our little Troy went ballistic as he wanted to attack the guy's Bull Terrier dog. Yes, he was a brave little soul and maybe he thought that the big dog was a danger to us. We had him for 17 years, and as a pup his bed was in my shoe. So yes, that park stores a nice memory for us, namely the tree that we planted in Troy's honor.
Such is life.
