An interesting act by a seagull.

Have you ever seen a Gull grabbing lunch called Red Bait from a sea squirt?
352.jpg

They arrived in formation senior just leading the second one in line.

Another short walk on the beach and another adventure was waiting for us.
We love the sea air and the secluded part of the beach that we visit, most often, delivers the goods.
The song of the sea is a sound like no other as the waves rhythmically crash up and down.
So come and look what I have for you today.

This guy looked like he spotted something to eat.
371.JPG

He found a sea squirt and was pecking at it.
Bang! He found something inside and pulled it out.
378.JPG

It is called Red Bait by the local fishermen here and they cut it out with a sharp knife to use for fishing bait. But the Kelp Gull needs no knife, as his beak is sharp.
380.JPG

Preparing to slurp the rich morsel up.
381.JPG

And there you go. He swallowed it.
382.JPG

Then I bid him farewell, and the happy gull took off.

Did I tell you that there are always adventures here at the beach?
If it is not Terns and Oyster Catchers, then it is Gulls and Geese.
Of course, also Kingfishers and other kinds of birds. I have posted all of these before, including the Kelp Gulls, but today was a special event.
The gull can strip a mollusk of its precious cargo within minutes, and the fishermen will take a much longer time to unearth the red bait.
Just nature's way to feed life at the ocean.

I hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and the story.

You have told me about this red bait a while ago and I still can smell it somehow 😅
Lovely and interesting post as always, my friend, you took just the right images to illustrate the story for us ☺️

Yes thank you for the reminder and the bonus is that you can remember the smell. Maybe the gulls war nose plugs when they eat it 🤣 !LOLZ

Thank you again and I practice in all of my posts to become a photo journalist. When I retire in 10 years time, I will write for a wild life magazine 😉

Cheers and thanks.

My lips are sealed, but I do suggest that you should bring some anti-fainting tablets with when you come 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

So it tastes like it smells? I think that South Africa has just fallen down from number 1 to number 999 on my bucket list 😂 !LOLZ

Noooo! It tastes like mussels and other sea food, as the smell goes when it is cooked. The smell hangs around in the house for a few days, but eventually it goes.

So you can keep our country in the number 1 spot as long as you don't eat anything here by me 🤣 !LOLZ

Cheers and thanks.

Oh my, I don't think that the squirrels are going to like you if you eat their nuts. But I will try to prepare the before you come and plead with them not to tell the local angry Baboon male to come and sort you out 🤣 !LOLZ

Cheers and thanks.

Okay, I think in that case I will bring my own nuts which I will share with the squirrels, and maybe also with the Baboon 😅 !LOLZ

Seagulls are actually similar in intelligence to corvids. And they are able to get their own food in different ways, but in some places they prefer to steal food, sometimes from people 😄

Oh yes, they have proven the intelligence of both the corvids and the seagulls.
Once I saw a seagull land on a bald guy's head trying to get the chips that the guy was eating 🤣
