Beautiful animals encountered on a short walk!

059 2.JPG

A hungry mountain hunter, "Jackal Buzzard" out scanning the slopes for prey!

Hungry because it was icy cold here and the snow is finally clearing off the mountain tops. I decided to place some animal shots here as we took a short stroll in a park that lies at the base of the mountain range.
Come and have a look and tell me what your favorite photo is!

053.JPG

Here we had two "Sheepdogs" at play!

094.JPG

That little "Jack Russell" pup was a real cutie!

073.JPG

Some sort of a "Terrier" here taking strain lol!

068.JPG

A family of "Pied Crows" playing in the wind!

124.JPG

A "Collie" at the left and "Sheepdog" at the right!

163.JPG

Another "Jackal Buzzard" that I think is the partner of the first one, circling higher up in the sky!

183.JPG

Finally a little "Chocolate Sausage" to end the post.

I love to take a walk in nature, especially the wild parts of nature, but on some days it is not possible to get to my favorite areas. Yet any parts of nature always offer photo opportunities if one is prepared to look a little deeper at the surroundings.

Wild, or tame, as shown here co-exist since ancient times and mankind is supposed to protect nature and the eco-systems.
Sadly nowadays the animal shelters are brimming with cases where mankind has lost its duty of love and care.
We simply have to love and respect the companions that we were gifted with!

And That's All Folks!

What beautiful wings that buzzard has!
I love that you chose to post this to the #FeatheredFriends community. Seeing all the dog photos mixed in with the birds was fun!

Thank you Lady Melinda and it's amazing what we can find on a short walk here.
All of the big parks are still closed here, so one has to take what you can get lol.

Blessings and thank you for the kind tip!

I hope the Buzzard don't see these cute puppies 😉

Oh yeah, they can see the puppies my friend, but the puppies have their owners around.
The birds will not attack if they see that people are there.

I also used to scare them off on the farm when they wanted to try their luck, but these two were high up.

Cheers and thanks!

I have seen videos of eagles hunting and catching sheep and such a video came to my mind when I saw the Buzzard photo and below these puppies.

Yes, glad that you saw the videos and we also have many eagles here.
It is the Harrier Hawks that we are careful of and whenever one is around we chase all of the squirrels away and put our small dog in the house.

Eagles are very seldom here, but the other big birds of prey you can see sometimes. I have never heard that one has caught a (little) dog though.

One never knows my friend, as we have heard talk here from the local farm workers that they stole some puppies.
What we have seen is one hawk lift a young Hadeda Ibis out of its nest that is almost the same size as the hawk.
So, we have to be careful when they are around.

Cheers and thanks!

Well, that sounds crazy - I just imagine such a predator bird catches one of our little kitten from the balcony 😥
But I do hope if you see such you can take a video, although I think if the bird catches one of your squirrels or dogs you will throw the camera on him 😉

Three times we have seen it and it was so fast that I couldn't even think of getting it on camera lol.
They come in at high speed, grab and GO!
I almost got a Fisheagle once, but he flipped behind a tree line.

We saw a dead squirrel in the road yesterday in another part of the town and I am thinking to get myself a bull-dozer in order to flatten some cars hahaha.
Always a sad thing to see.

Cheers and thanks!

I have never seen one hunting, but fighting other birds in flight high up.

It's always sad to see such lovely animals killed by cars. Here you see such quite often.

Well, do me a favor and Google the "African Fish Eagle" you will love it's call that can be heard from a mile away!

Yeah, I might have told you that a car killed a young Buzzard that were born near our cottage on the farm?
My wife cried when I picked him up and we buried him in the back garden of the coattage in a quiet sunny spot.
Cars and animals don't go together!

Cheers and thanks!

That's a cool looking bird and it's call sounds very nice.
In German this bird is called"Schreiseeadler" what means "Shout Sea Eagle". This name suits 😉

You're right, animals and cars don't go together.

Sounds also like a nice name in German.
The Fish Eagle's call is famous across the world and if you hear "live", I promise that you will never forget it.
We still hear one or two occasionally here, but I know that they are at the other side of the mountain at the apple farms. 25.7 kilometers away from us!

True, not only cars, but also the rotors of the new windfarms that are popping up all over the place. The blades kill the birds. And don't forger the high powerline towers, as the predator birds an Storks build their nests in them and then they get electrocuted.

Much wrong with this world, as mankind does notv cosifer animals when they build structures for their own comfort.

But nothing that we can do about it!

Cheers and thanks!

Nice? I wouldn't say that, because "Schrei" means scream or shout or so, but not this kind of call which sounds quite nice, and I believe you that in reality it will sound much better.

Yes, it's a shame that we only think about a kind of animal when it's gone in nature and we can only see it at a zoo or in a museum.

The name of the fish Eagles song/scream because it is so loud, is "The Call of Africa"
and it is a very authentic call.
Obviously in German they would interpret it as a scream, as yes, it is a very melodius scream to tell all the he is the king of the skies here. Not even the bravest crow will go near him and his only enemy is man. Especially the trophy hunters.

Yep, so sad and in the meantime they caught a guy at the airport trying to smuggle out 6 Rhino horns, Which means another 6 dead Rhinos.
250 Elephants have also died suddenly in Botswana and they are investigating the causes.
At times it seems that this world as we know it is slowly dying around us.

Cheers and thanks!

People are so stupid. Killing animals for a tropy is just stupid.

Hi Zac, I'm late, but I have decided this morning that the replies can wait and went for a little hike instead - I needed to shoot a waterfall 😉

Hi Hannes, we seem to even think alike as I have also started half an hour ago to do all of my replies.
I have fiddled with replies on the EL page once ot twice, but didn't want to get bogged down again.
Hope that you enjoyed the hike and did you get the waterfall on camera?

Cheers and thanks!

These replies are a lot of work if you don't want to write the same to everybody. I didn't even think of being that high on the list this week and was really surprised.

I began my hike too late in the morning and the sun was already shining too bright on some places, but the hike was very nice and I took a few hopefully nice waterfall shots.

Yeah, you are right, as I have just finished and essay long reply to another person typing with the one finger of both my right and left hands.
You know the one finger that you use to dig in your nose. That same finger hahaha!

I time my walks at the beach as I have to wait for the low tides. At the mountains I can go any time, but best is before 10am in the mornings, or late afternoon between 4 and 5, as these are the times when the birds and animals feed and fly and hunt.

It was also unexpected by me to land in thirs place, as I don't think that I was ever that high, but it doesn't bother me much, as I said elsewhere that I don't care much where I land, as long as it shows that I am trying to engage.

Ha, keep the waterfalls for the W in the alphabet hunt. Water will also be ideal for you as you have beaitiful lakes there and watersports is another one.

Cheers and blessings!

Good morning Zac,

I have got a few minutes before I have to leave for a training (shooting on innocent targets ;) and want to make a few quick replies because I don't know when I'll be back.

So you mean the little finger? I have just tried to type with it and it's not easy 🤣 LOL

I believe you that timing is important at the sea - I don't need such at the lakes ;)
My preferred time to hike on mountains is the early morning before the sun rises. Birds and other animals are just a nice addon if I see some ;)

Next Sunday we'll see whos on top of the list, but I think the ladies will strike back 😉

I think I will see quite a few more waterfalls until we reach the letter W 😄

Have a great day my friend 😊

Good evening Hannes,

Hope that your trainging went well!

Hahaha, then you must have small nostrills, I use the finger that I point with, as my nostrils are tunnell size lol.

Yeah, I in turn love the life in the mountains, birdlife, lizards, snakes and anything else that I can find.

Let's just hope that we stay in the top 20 my friend!

You are a very good photographer and I am sure that you are going to have many photos to pick from.

Hope that you also had a good day!

Blessings and thanks!

Hi Zac,

yes, the training was ok, but it was hot and made tired.

Oh well, mine are no tunnels and the index finger suits very well too 😁 lol

Yes, top 20 would be ok for me.

I think I'll have enough photos, just no time or better said no motivation to sit inside on my computer 😉

I also struggle to sit inside on my computer and rather sit at night, as my camera is not very good at night settings. Well not the camera, as I am stupid with the complicated settings, else I would be out there at night lol.

I think top 10 is more suited to you.

It's tiring after a hard day to squeeze out lucid and relaxed thoughts my friend, but we have to do what we do hahaha.

Maybe we are both a bit mad lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Night photography is something I have tried, but I failed and will try it again one day 😉

And that's why I put my phone away now and say hello to my pillow 😆

The kitchen is in the other direction and I just had to look on the right side on my way to the bedroom, because the balcony is on the left 🤣

Hope you had a good night too and you have a wonderful day, Zac 😃

Well, it seems that you have the route in your house mapped out Hannes.
You obviously know how quickly we can get distracted hahaha.
Sometimes we even forget to go to sleep and I don't know if you ever heard the words; "Darling, don't you think that it is time to go and sleep"?

My night was good thank you my friend!

Well, you are lucky, as I get so busy at times, that my wife has to remind me that it's time for bed hahaha.

We moved in about 8 years ago, but I like to leave the lights off when I go to the toilet during the night (in the toilet I turn it on ;).

Usually I go earlier to bed than my wife. She stays longer up and in bed she reads while I'm asleep, but then she sleeps as long as possible in the morning 😁

We almost live in the same house Hannes!

Although I haven't lived in the same house for 8 years, for a very long time.
Mind you, we lived in the church hall projector room for 7 years from 2002-2009.

Only difference is that I scare my wife out of the bed some mornings. I whisper in her ear in a gruff voice; "Here comes the undertaker" hahaha.
Such alacrity when she raises herself as if from the dead hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

So, your churches seem to be a bit different from ours, but that depends on the confession, because some churches look like ordinary houses too.

If you want to die, try to wake up my wife before it's time to get up 🤣

I will have to search for a photo of the church property that we bought. It has a full church bulding at the one side and a large community hall at the other side. The denomination was Methodist, before we changed it to "The Papillon Foundation".

Oh, so you guys work the other way way around hahaha.
My wife won't dare to wake me when I am sleeping hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

Sounds interesting and like big buildings although I have no idea how a Methodist church looks like 😉

I sleep very seldom longer than my wife - even when I have a day off I get up with her at the latest, but she loves to sleep till the last minute. I say I can sleep long enough when I'm 6 feet under 🤣

Don't worry, I will send you a photo and then you will know lol.

I always love wild animals especially birds and herbivorous animals. I have seen many hawks but never saw Jackal Buzzard, they are amazing.
It seems like pretty nice day, dogs are enjoying it. Is it cold there?
Stay well, my friend...

Thank you and agreed, as we also love all wild things in nature my dear friend.
Almost freezing here for the past few days, but slowly starting to get better.
It is winter here now in South Africa and we live in "the Cape of Storms" with winds up to 160kmh.

Blessings and take care!
