Come spend some time at the river.

I love the sound of the river and one can find life in the pools.
060.JPG

A place of peace and rest for one's soul, as the waters flow calmly past.

I will also show the birth of a small school of river trout in here, but first you will see a fallen branch of a tree, caused by an infestation of bugs. We have what they call the "Shot Hole Borer Beetle" and the beetles are not of South African origin, but rather an import from South East Asia. The suggestion is that they arrived during shipping in wooden pallets and they are sowing much destruction in our trees.

You can see the brown part of the break and the beetles ate away until the weight of the branch eventually caused it to break.
008.JPG

Not a very nice sight here, as that lovely tree lost a limb.
019.JPG

Tell me that you can see the little White-eye bird on a twig in the river?
010.JPG

He took a quick drink and then he was gone again.
007.JPG

The crab saw me and he scuttled sideways to find a suitable spot.
036.JPG

He found the spot and said. Bring it on mate, as I am now ready for you.
040.JPG

And now we were delighted to see the birth of baby trouts.

Can you see the little black spots on the rocks below the fish?
033.JPG

A closer look as mom watched over them.
057.JPG

Soon those little dark dots will be juveniles like these ones below.
068.JPG

This Orange-winged Dropwing dragonfly was bathing in the sun (Trithemis kirbyi).
071.JPG

Finally, here's a closer look of him on my zoom.
070.JPG

I like to share the places where we go with you, as nature is fabulous and it can revitalize one's senses. Clean mountain river water can also be a tonic that removes toxins from the body. Nowadays some of us depend on the fast foods market to keep us going in the rush of life, but such foods can be very detrimental to one's health. Some foods have antibiotics in it and by eating it, we now have antibiotic resistent super bugs making an appearance.

This is not thumbsuck, as have a look at this Forbes site.

So yes, the world is evolving and the viruses are also evolving. Of course, then we also have the climate changes that do not improve matters and the thing for me at least, is that all sit helpless in the middle of it.
Reminds me of song lyrics; When will they ever learn.

We are not really defenseless, as we can all make our voices heard for the sake of our future generations. This life is all about money and profits and it was enhanced by the recent Covid lockdowns.

In order for balance and sanity, we really need to start making the changes in our lives to keep things intact for our children, and their children, and their children.
How sad that we as humans have not been good stewards of the earth and the animals.

How can it be okay to pump chickens, pigs, cattle, and sheep with medicines? How can it be okay to allow sewerage to spew into the oceans?
How is it okay to give people unnatural foods? Foods that harm and do not heal?

May we have voices to protect this beautiful planet. And may we be united in our efforts to make a change.

And That's All Friends.

Sound of the river and water flowing is most relaxing one I've ever experienced.

Spending time in nature and finding it's beauty and life around surroundings is Amazing thing. That's such a Good Place to be. Wonderfully captured those shots!

I get so sad when I see all of the willful destruction Hannes.
We feel sad and bad when it's an act of nature, such as that terrible earthquake in Turkey and Syria, but wanton destruction such as pumping sewage into the ocean is an act by humans and it is killing the sea life.

Thank you and I know exactly what you would think when you saw the dragonfly 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

So many times we have been talking about such themes, my friend, and it's always the same: we will never learn ... we are destroying our home.
The earthquakes wouldn't have killed that many people if the houses were built as they should have been built, but I have heard they were built cheaply for several reasons and the government didn't mind. It's always the same.

Oh yes, I can believe that as over here when the rivers flood many people are homeless because the water destroys their homes. The problem is that they build their houses too close to the rivers. And of course there's always the danger of building things cheaply and cutting corners with cheap labor. Of course the government doesn't mind, as they don't have the pressure on them to build houses for those that build their own homes. But one also has to be fair and even a well built house will collapse when its foundations are swallowed by an earthquake.
Such is life my friend.

Cheers and thanks.

Yes, you're right, but that let me think of my parent's house. It has survived some earthquakes in the past because of the 1 meter thick walls, but no one would nowadays build a house with such thick walls anymore, I believe 😉 !LOLZ

We have also been talking about the people who lose their homes because of the floodings, and they build their new homes in the same area although they know the water will destroy them again...

You said "such is life" and I agree.

Yes, you are right, nowadays all exterior wall thicknesses are 250mm and internal walls are 150mm thick. I am talking about brickwork here. People will faint if they had to build a house with 1 meter thick walls 🤣 !LOLZ

Now I remember that we did discuss the issue, but the question is always, where else could they go?
So they have to sacrifice to live and it is so sad.

Cheers and thanks.

My parent's house is mostly made of stone, no bricks, and no one builds such houses nowadays anymore 😅 !LOLZ

Yep, you have explained me that more than once and I still can't understand it, and that's sad too.

I don't know if I have told you that I'll be mostly offline in the next days: we have taken a few days off and are going on vacation to Salzburg, and we will stay exactly there: https://goo.gl/maps/7WGHwRyxcND5g9rZ6

For many, many years we have spent our winter holidays there with friends and with the family of my wife's sister. We haven't been there since 2018 and my kids thought we could have a family meeting once again. So, us 4 and my wife's sisters family, that has grown a little bit in the past years, will meet there tomorrow afternoon and we'll try to have some fun till Sunday.

Some of us will go skiing and some, my family and our niece with her family, will go for walks or just have a great time. And the evenings will be spent together.
It's a very old farm there and not expensive at all. It's even like family there because we have known them for about 30 years.

So, I hope the weather will be fine that I can take some nice winter photos, and of course, I'll find some time every day to go online 😉

Only a few of us are going skiing and the rest spends the day together walking at the lake, hiking or playing cards. It's a lot of fun after years of not being here.

My camera is with me, but it's too warm and there's not much snow, so I haven't taken many photos yet.

Hope your pain have gone by now and you're feeling better, my friend ☺️

Great that everyone can do their own thing and that there are no rules or dominance. It can indeed get very tiresome if one person demands that everyone should join him or her every day.

Sad to hear about the lack of snow, but still, you can enjoy yourself. So, no need to worry about photos.

Thank you for asking, the hip is much better, but I still struggle with the knife stabs in right leg's calf. Not a very pleasant experience, but thankfully I have pain killers and I continue to walk on the leg, as it must heal itself 😟

Cheers and thanks.

Yeah, we spend quite some time together in the mornings having breakfast and then some go skiing and some go walking or hiking or shopping. The youngest is 5 months old and the oldest is a pensioner, but unfortunately it's not me 🤣 !LOLZ
In the late afternoon we meet again at the house and spend the evening together till we go to bed quite late 😴

I don't go skiing anyway, so I don't mind very much that there's not much snow, but I would have loved to take snow photos - it doesn't look good when there's everywhere patches of grass in the snow, so I didn't take a lot photos.

Don't get addicted to the pain killers, my friend 😉 but I do hope they help you and will soon not needed anymore.

So In presume the pensioner stays at home to look after the 5 months old and you are lucky that you were not the pensioner 🤣 !LOLZ
But have some patience, as soon you will be a pensioner and you will have to look after the grandchildren when your kids want a holiday 😜

I saw your post tonight and you certainly have enough snow photos in your files my friend 😉

Oh yes, I am well aware of the danger to become addicted to the stuff, so another few days, then they will be finished. And remember that I still am waiting for the camera/pill scan and so some more pain is waiting for me. What a life 🙏

So in the meantime you take the boys and girls on hikes, which is a very good thing as they can learn much from a mountain goat 😉

You are right about the winter and I hope that you will get some new snow photos 🙏

Thank you my friend and we hope for the same. Some of the daily pills cause muscle degeneration and we are exploring Yoga stretches as an option to strengthen especially my back muscles 😉

Cheers and thanks.

I was a quite good skier but some years ago I didn't have fun anymore and because my wife and the kids also didn't like to go skiing, I didn't mind leaving the skis at home. Skiing has become very expensive anyway.

We'll see if the snow will come back, but I am also already looking forward to the Spring.

It's always the same - you need pills for the side effects of the other pills and more pills for the side effects of these pills. I hope it will not get too bad ... and I would love to see you in a Yoga pose 😉

This is the way that we go through life since small Hannes. We try things and although we are good at it, the repetition starts to get boring. In your case, the wife and the kids also didn't like to go skiing and so now your ski's are somewhere in the basement 😉 !LOLZ

Yep, Spring is just around the corner and it will be sure to bring its own beauty 😉

I am sure to break something if I follow the Yoga exercise charts exactly as they say that I have to do it. Somehow I can't picture myself sitting with my foot next to my ear. So if I had to try that then I will need more pills to counter the pain and more pills to take care of the side effects of the new pills 🤣🤣🤣

Cheers and thanks.

It sounds like a great place and that's why you must retire there.

Ouch, that's a lot of clothes and we have nothing like this over here. In our warm winters I simply add a jacket to my 2 shirts and my two pants. My wife of course is totally different, as she packs 5 sets of clothes for 5 days away and a whole lot of other stuff, but that's normal for females I believe 😜 !LOLZ

Thank you and I hope that you guys have a wonderful time out there.

So you want me to retire on a farm? I will not be able to experience a sunrise ever again because I have to go to the barn and feed and muck out the cows every morning 😂 !LOLZ

We have had a quite warm winter and the lowst temperature here was about -11 C, so there's a little bit mor eneeded than a jacket 😉 In the mountains it gets even colder and -20 can also be cozy if you have the right clothes on 😀

We have had a great time and maybe we'll meet there again in the Summer.

Hope you have had a wonderful weekend, my friend, and that the pain has eased.

The way I know you is that you will get an auto cow milking machine and you will hire someone to clean the muck out. Then you can sit in a lounger on the verandah to keep a sleepy eye on things 😜 !LOLZ

I can only sit and wonder how I would cope with such low temperatures my friend, as it sounds very cold. Maybe 4 underpants, 2 trousers, rugby socks in sheep wool lined boots, 3 jackets and my Eskimo hat will be of great help in -20C temperatures 🤣

Good to hear and yes, a summer together could also be good 😉

Still struggling a bit, especially with the strained muscles in the right calf. The right leg went into a complete spasm and it damaged the leg muscles. I cannot tell you how painful it was 🙏

Cheers and thanks.

There are the people, who spend their vacation there, who need breakfast and the cats and goats and the chicken need something to eat too, my friend. No way that I retire there 😅 !LOLZ

Long underwear, maybe an additional layer depending on the temperature, and good winter pants and jackets is all you need. That's why I prefer the cold to heat: you can't take more off than your clothes if it's hot, but you can always add a layer when it's cold 😉

I don't want to hear that it's painful, I want to hear that you're fine - hopefully soon, my friend 🙏😊

Well in your case when Hive moons you can retire anywhere and you will also have the option to go on worldwide cruises. Sounds like a great way to retire methinks 😮 !LOLZ

My wife wears a jacket every day regardless if it's very hot, or very cold. As I age now I am much more comfortable in the cold and in summer I try to stay out of the direct sun as much as I can. With only the lightest clothing on that I can find. You are right as in winter one can always add clothing, but we only have about 2 weeks of cold here. Not below 0C thankfully.

Slowly as it goes my friend and yesterday afternoon I was a bit stupid, as I walked on the uneven muddy bed of the lake. At the moment the muscles can only endure short walk on firm ground. It is amazing to see how quickly the water in that lake can disappear in the hot African sun.

Have a look, as 2 weeks ago this was all water and now I can walk on it.

Cheers and thanks.

Yep, let the Hive moon soon, but I think I'd rather stay in Austria and visit other countries. My wife certainly would also not want to leave our families.

I'm different: the older I get the more I prefer warmer temperatures above 0C 🤣 !LOLZ

Wow, that's the little lake from some of your photos, isn't it? Take care, my friend, I hope that walk didn't cause problems or more / longer pain.

Oh yes, of course you will keep Austria as your base, but then you will have the time to travel far and wide to some exotic destinations 😉

Hahaha, funny guy again and you deserve a 🤣 !LOLZ

Yep, that's the same lake and there are still some pools of water with many flamingos in them. So I had to walk in the mud to try and get closer shots of them.
Here they are.

Only my right calf that stays troublesome, but they reckon that it will slowly heal after about 3 weeks.
I am not allowed to bend down and if I want to pick something up, then I have to bend my legs. So I don't bend anything because the right calf screams if I try 😟

Cheers and thanks.

It's a lovely photo, of course, and these are cool birds 😊

I don't like if when you have pain, but I think it's good that your right calf screams because it it didn't, you would certainly don't take that much care ... take care, my friend, and hopefully in 3 weeks time you're be painless 🙏😀

Hahaha, no, I think that most of them are youngsters waiting until they are strong enough for the long flight up north into Africa. They are lovely birds and I am glad to get them while they are still around, as 2 or 3 weeks more and they will all be gone. Until next summer 😉

Oh yes, it is as noisy as a small baby, but like I said elsewhere, tonight the baby will sleep. Tomorrow morning we have a meeting with some friends at the local scouts group and I will be well rested.
So thank you and my hope is the same.

I really hope that your weekend will be great with the family.

What a lovely little exploration, Zac! I love the dragonfly - how gorgeous is that shade of orange!!! 💗😍 I don't think I've ever seen pic of baby trout either hehe - so thanks for sharing that. How awesome! I went for a walk alongside a little stream today opposite my home. My youngest son wanted to take me into the woods to share his swing adn den with me and the bridge to Terabithia that he and his brother made the other day hehe... The water is dammed at in our stream in a few places on purpose by the local Woodland Trust so are implementing changes in line with an ecological blueprint that they have for the area... but we never used to have mosquitoes in the summer... and now we do! Monster ones...aargh... We didn't see much in the way of animal or insect life today in the woods... but we did see one of our cats lol and a squirrel! And we might have seen something else too... gonna write about it just now... !LOLZ Always a pleasure popping into one of your posts. I dropped in from Dreemport today where your posts has been shared by @deraaa 💗😉 !LUV !PIZZA

Thank you for popping in Sammy and oh my, the mosquitos love dammed pools. I hope that they are not the virus carrying mossies, or else you guys will be in trouble. We have a mossie zapper here in our house and it takes care of any mossie that dares to come inside. You can order the Mosquito Zappers online and if you want, then I can send you a photo of our one.
A cat and a squirrel is at least something to see 😝
I will have a look at your post that I presume was posted 2 days ago. At the moment I am battling with a health problem and the power cuts are also a big problem here. That's why I could only reply now.

Blessings and !LUV

ooh yes please, drop me a pic of your mosquito zapper! I need to put up window screens this summer too! It can get quite warm here in the summer and my boys struggle even with fans...but if we leave windows open we get mossies and spiders ugh. I hope your health issues are not too serious and that they ease soon. The power cuts in SA are terrible - 10-12 hours per day now I believe. I know a few South Africans on Hive that are struggling... plays havoc with refrigeration too. We went out to the woods today again and saw a deer, a ring-necked green parakeet and a red kite. Pretty neat for an hour of exploration just across the road from me. We passed a fox on the road a couple of weeks ago as they also live in the woods. Take care of yourself, Zac 💗 Love and blessings right back at you !LUV !ALIVE

Right, here's a picture of our mosquito zapper.

I has an ultra violet light inside an electrical charged wire cage that attracts all insects and as oon as they touch the wires, they are fried. Works like a bomb.

I had this mozzy screen blind made for our bedroom and now we sleep with the windows open.

As you can see, not even the baby geckos can get through it.

The health issue will still take a while, but I am slowly improving. Yes, the power cuts play havoc all over the country and it certainly puts the public into a very negative vibe. But it is the crime that I am more worried about. Dark days mean dark deeds my friend.

Great news and by the sounds of it, soon you will have a natural zoo in that forest 😊

You also take care Sammy and enjoy the weekend. !PIZZA !LOL !LUV

ooh, love the screens!!! I'm definitely going to get some for our home! And baby gecko...aw...I miss geckos. Well, I don't miss when they lose their grip on the ceiling at night when they run faster than they should, and they drop on your head while you are sleeping 🤣😴👀 !LOLZ but yeah...it's crazy what you grow used to having around hehe. So the mosquito zapper is a unit, I thought it was one of those racquet thingies ... doesn't that also attract other insects like moths and butterflies? Thanks for the info, Zac... I appreciate it! Take care of yourself... I hope you continue to make steady progress toward being well again 😘 !LUV !ALIVE !PIZZA

Oh yeah, the screens are great to have Sammy.
I worked on the high electrical feed towers and an inspector share my bungalo during a visit. A Gecko fell off the roof one morning and it landed in his porridge bowl. What a laugh 🤣 !LOLZ
Oh yes, the zapper attracts all flying insects and I don't have the time to hunt around for an elusive mozzy with a raquet thingy 😉
Although I think that a butterfly will be too big to get in there, as I have never seen one when I clean the zapper. Only many mosquitos.
My pleasure to share it with you and yes, slowly, slowly I am getting there.
