Desperation before the storm.

Now how did they know a big storm was coming?
046.jpg

This little guy above shouted at everyone to hurry up and then he stood watching the troops.

They don't have phones or any other communication media to warn them that a storm is on it's way, but they know.
The good news is that whenever they are franctic then I know that it will rain. On the warm days they eat leisurely, but before rain comes, they act hurriedly and they also know that with full stomachs they can endure the storms.
So I have appointed the squirrels as my weather watchers.

The terrible twins were first in line heading for our window in the study.
051.jpg

I hurriedly placed the peanuts out on the window sill.
031.jpg

Then the other troops also came rushing in.
037.jpg

Some were very insistent on a personal feed.
060.jpg

A heap of nuts disappeared in no time and their stomachs were full.
One of the twins drank some water at the birdbath and the other sat looking at me here at the front.
077.jpg

Did I tell you that I was being watched. But they had enough and it was time for them to withdraw to their hiding places.
086.jpg

So the watcher also had a drink and then they were gone.
065.jpg

Whoa, not all, as this one tried his luck inside our house before he also left.
004.jpg

Did I tell you that the weather service warned about a big storm that will hit us today?
118.jpg

Never a good thing to face the enemy on an empty stomach. This is the lesson that was displayed here to me. But who is the enemy? We have many such as hangovers, illnesses, depression and the likes.
A full stomach releases energy and warmth, especially also on very cold nights and all of the animals know that.

We have already had severe rainfall, not only here but also in the drought stricken areas of the country and some farming lands look like dams.
Sadly the large volumes of water also create floods that destroy roads, bridges and in some cases homes. Thankfully no fatalaties have been reported yet.

And That's All Friends.

Don't you dread the rain?
It is hard when you have to work.
Lucky for me, it doesn't rain too often here.
And when it rains, I can choose to stay in the office the whole day, hehehe😊

Nope, I love the rain and often step outside in the rain. Except when there is hail and lightning.
Ha, I used to ride on my bike to work in both rain and sunshine and in summer and winter.

Good for you, as then you don't get wet.

Oh yeah, we have to buy 5kg bags of nuts every 2 weeks.
Squirrels are known to travel around looking for food and the most we have had here was 7 of them.

Ha, 5 of them stay, but the other two all over the place, they are the same as their grandfather was.
He was the gran Squirrie's husband and his name was "Scarface".
Very wild and a real fighter.

He sounds like a real character :) What is his story?

Scarface loved to fight and he had a deep scar on the right hand side of his face. Maybe from a raptor bird or something else with long claws.
When he appeared in the garden here all of the squirrels ran away as he had a very bad reputation.

Was he gentle with you? I have heard of some squirrels being aggressive because of being fed but I have yet to meet one.

Scarface gentle? No, he never came near us and I think that he was jealous because his wife Squirry was climbing all over us hehehe.

🤣 I hope he still got his share of treats! The old warrior needed his energy to protect the yard :)

(Edited)

Oh yes, he did and he needed his energy to protect the entire neighborhood.
With him on the ground and Harry in the air, we had a two man army here.

Yes, it was a tough time for the predators, but scarface simply disappeared about a year ago and only Harry is still here.

I don't think squirrels live more than a few years 😪... He was probably already an old man when you moved in.

The average is 6-12 years in the wild, but there are many predators and also car deaths here.
Two days ago, I was slowing down to to allow some guinea fowls to cross the road, when a speeding woman in a truck came past our car barely missing two of the fowls.
Some people just don't care.

That's so sad 😪Is there any way of getting the government to put out animal crossing signs???

They will have to put animal crossings all over the place, as animals cross the roads haphazardly here my friend. People even hate to stop at pedestrian crossings.

One would bring notice to the entire area. Just a good reminder to slow down!

Cape has continued rain into mid-spring, better enjoying rain to drought of a few years ago. Would be great if some was being captured into dams for dry spells, alas I think not!

Rains should arrive here once again tomorrow, but it is normal for us now and everything is celebrating, except when dirt has clogged pipes and flooding is also taking place washing through homes.

Have a great morning!

Still raining here my friend and I am sure that more will come your way.
Great news is that the drought areas are receieving torrential rain and Marian's sister sent us photos of a dry dam that was overflowing in a matter of hours at Oudtshoorn.
No new dams and the cycles will continue.

As the population increases over here, more drains and pipes get blocked and flooding is commonplace all over.

!LUV is all I have at the moment.

Noticed Montagu had rivers flowing straight through town, good if dams are now full, sad no work on new improvements, now too busy fighting municipal elections to the death!

Population explosion will continue as long as money is given for child grants, strange way to try help disadvantaged, jobs would be better.

No when I look all I see is "Give Me" "I Want" not much talk about what can I do to improve my living conditions!

!LUV fluit fluit my storie is uit!

Yep, it's a real madhouse with the politicians running around with all of their empty promises.

Well the one "leader" said that people should now have 10 children and that they will pay for the children.

A spark of light, as the communities in some towns are starting to repair their own roads and they also clean the rivers. The municipalities are bankrupt and any money coming in is paid on salaries.
A sad state of affairs.

Maybe my !LUV still works, as I have forgotten how to stake my tokens.

Almost a case of let the games begin when it comes to elections, no longer a position held by responsible citizens, hopefully the tide will turn.

Utter selfishness bringing more children into the world when they do not have the means of housing or feeding themselves!

Community here has been cleaning rivers, beaches, repairing where able for many years, then people visit the town showing no respect eventually you start to wonder why you bother. Searching the bush every weekend removing snares to try save the little wildlife in there!

!LUV to the Capetonians we have more rain expected along with loadshedding so it is....
!BEER and !WINE to drown out the madness 😁

Sheer madness in the rush for votes and the shows go on.

I agree and that remark was only said to garner votes.

They are thankfully very strict here on snaring, but yes the littering has become a national problem. Was always and will be always.

Now we cannot take all of the opraises for the gifts to you guys Lady Joan.
Yes, the rain comes from us, but the power cuts are gifted by Gauteng hahaha,

Less than a week with the drivel they speak, more action less words would go a long way.

Enjoying the rain and cool break, power cut midday again today which throws one out of sync. Going for 4th industrial revolution when we have not yet reached the 3rd 😁makes sense....

Sooner or later thaty will be held accountable by the people and then there will be big upheavals again.
But I think that we are getting used to it. Can't blame people for looting when they have nothing Lady Joan. Just sad that they are being used for nefarious reasons.

Great to hear about you weather and we have the same thoughts about the black outs. I don't like the invented word called loadshedding as it might sound better, but to me it's black outs. "Finish and klaar"

Have and have not have always been around, no excuse to pillage, murder and behave in the manner we witness currently.

Loadshedding was a term used when excess power was available, but as always used in wrong context, yes they are black outs!

I think that they are controlled milady.

With great relief we had our first black out, no our second black out today.
I thought that we live on another planet , but the blackouts have made me so glad to see in the dark that we are still living in this country hehehe.

!LUV is still all I have.

Martians out there will think we sending morse code, with the whole country going off at similar timing (my sister mentioned Jhb is same time as did @joetunex) so if Cape Town gets away with one or two black outs a day.... great to hear, keep smiling!

Lol actually I've never thought of the word loadshedding, since it's tossed around I also uses it but blackout sounds right.

It's surprising how the blackouts are of similar timing. We might have to get used to this for a while.

Thirteen years of blackouts think about it, children don't know what it was like having electricity all the time.

Timing is nation wide, saving power for municipal elections and many other weak explanations as to where it all went wrong. Will be nice one day if the problems are properly addressed!
