Driving around with no licence!

We had to get eye tests and photos today in order to renew our expired driving licences later this month!

Our licences expired in June amid the covid lockdown when everything was closed and we have received an extension to renew within 90 days. At the moment the queues are too long due to the backlog and we will go more towards the end of the extension period.

But come and look at the photos that I took during the drive!

The squirrel above said; "Hey, I know you guys are going out, just a pretty, pretty please for some nuts before you go."!

093.JPG

"Hey" he said, "I will break this window down if you don't leave me nuts before you go"

At a traffic light we saw this pair of "European Starlings"

119.JPG

Did I say a pair? Here's a gang of them on the high overhead wires next to the road!
The one at the bottom must be the mayor of the Starlings!

132.JPG

Had to click this one above quickly as the traffic lights were changing to "Go"!

151.JPG

One his way to the landing strip at our local airfield!

157.JPG

I liked how the sun played on the screen of this chopper!

160.JPG

One of the shops that we drove past!
Built in the year 1903 and if any Hivers here were born in the year 1903, they may keep this photo above as gift lol.

053.JPG

I also wanted to show you the craziness of last night!

056.JPG

Late, but the setting sun was not finished playing with the clouds!

Finally I got the moon and it was also brighter than usual.
Makes me think that the full moon is going to be something special with all of the light!

And That's All Folks!

An expensive business this renewal system of driving licences that we have here.
First we have to pay for a heap of photos. Not any photos, as they have to be according to accepted standards in monochrome.
Then we have to pay for they eye tests. A thing where they put up letters on a screen for us to read with each eye.
Then we have to pay seperately for the certificates.

At the driving licence issuing offices, we have to pay for a temporary drivers licence, while they process our application forms and when it is done, they contact us to go and collect the official licences and of course we have to pay again.
My result for the eye test was good, 80% in the right eye and 90% in the left eye.
But Marian's result is a cause for concern, as she got 90% for her right eye and only 30% for her left eye.
So we booked an intensive eye examination for her.

A Happy Friday to all and we hope that you enjoyed the photos!

Note: All photos are my own, unedited and cropped for uploading purposes.

Mine is expiring this month and the way it is going now it will be a long time before it is renewed - total chaos.

Thank you and I see that the guy is loaded cuzzy Jerry.
We will sort it out once the backlog is cleared, as I am not prepared to go and stand in long queues.
I was not of our making, so we will take our time.

Blessings!

I really wouldn't want to stand in those queues during this pandemic! I had mine done about 2 years ago, hubby went last year, but we always get our eye exam certificate from our optician and she never charges us. Sounds like it's becoming another money making scheme now! They really shouldn't make you pay for a temp license if it's not your fault you applied late; I went close to my expiry date and was told not to worry but to keep my receipt in the car. Things vary from province to province though! Hope Marian's eye problem can be resolved with glasses. Take care my friend and have a great weekend!

Yeah, in Jo'burg we know the system well, but here it's another kettle of fish (nice saying close to the ocean) lol.
The backlog resulted in very long queues and they only take 50 at a time, so it is going to take some time to clear it.
We will go at around the end of August.

Marain has glasses Lady Lizelle and we think that there's some other problem, but we will hear on Sunday.

Blessings!

I have a friend with very poor vision in one eye. He can still drive but needs to score higher in the two eye test.

Yeah I think it's the same here, as the optrometist told us that Marian's high score on the one eye is enough to pass for the renewal of her licence.
We are seeing the optometrist again tomorrow morning for an indepth examination of her eye.
Let's hope that it's not serious.

License renewals seem to come around quickly of late, no reminders from our side you have to remember the date of late!

Everywhere you go the fleece you with requirements that used to part and parcel of what was done at the licensing office.

Good luck with waiting it takes forever, now covid has given another excuse for excessive delays.

Well, we will just have to wait and see how it all is going to work out Lady Joan.
Decided to go at towards the end of August to enable them to clear the backlog and the queues.
Food increase, petrol increases, electricity and council charges increases, where is it all going to wnd?
When we are all bankrupt.

Hope your weekend is good rhus far!

I love those startlings! Good capture!
It seems the government is always about the money grab!
Glad to hear your eyes were good but sorry to hear about Marion's - hopefully nothing serious.

We have just returned from the eye guy that did an intensive investigation.
2 findings.

Marian is a lecturer and she marks the exams of graduate students, abour 300 students every semester.
So, the one finding was that her constant staring at a PC screen was the one cause.
The other cause is her eye sensitivity to the blazing African sun at sea level.

We moved here almost 2 years ago, and up on the highveld, where the air is much thinner, the sun is not so fierce. Amazingly it has not affected my eyes.

Blessings!

Interesting about the effects of the African sun at sea level. I never thought there was a difference for what level you are at. I know we have to be very careful when we go for walks in open snow areas for it is easy to get snow blindness from the reflection on the sun on the snow. Luckily we mostly have the dark evergreens around us to balance out that brightness and i focus more there then the open snow when it is sunny.

I know that staring at the PC is quite a concern. I really have to watch myself that I take frequent breaks and get out of cyberspace (glad we live in the forest and step out our door into a natural setting). Also need a break from sitting to long too!

I think that it also has something to do with air my friend.
Much drier and thinner at the highveld attributes than at sea level and today 2 years ago we moved here. So, we are not properly acclamatized yet!
Good that you know about the dangers of the sun on the snow and the forests are indeed a sight saver.

We are also enforcing a 20 minute get up and go system here, but at times it is difficult due to urgent communications in relation to our charity work.
Sitting is indeed very unhealthy methinks.

Blessings and hope that you guys will have a good week!
