Flight of a Jackal Buzzard.

A late afternoon hunt for prey by this beautiful big bird.
094.jpg

I saw him far away and whispered to my camera, Please, please tell him to come this way.

And it seemed that he heard my camera as the photos will show his approach very high up and his fly over.

The jackal buzzard (Buteo rufofuscus) is a fairly large African bird of prey. The taxonomy of this species has caused some confusion in the past and it almost certainly belongs in a species complex with other African Buteo species. Some taxonomists have considered this species, the Archer's buzzard, and the augur buzzard to be the same superspecies. Many taxonomists consider them all to be distinct, having different calls, different home ranges and variations in plumage. This is a species that lives among mountains, and on adjacent savanna and grassland. It is resident and non-migratory throughout its range.

And then the magic moment was over and the bird was gone,

Just another day here with a special show by Mother nature and I was so happy to get him coming over. As you see in the introduction, they are big birds and fierce hunters with no enemies except mankind.
We have many of them here amongst the eagles and the falcons, and we are really blessed with abundant animal and bird life in the Western Cape of South Africa.

We hope that you have enjoyed this post.

Looks amazing! Great photos again. I enjoy seeing birds of prey. Most of the times our photos don't show what we say with our eyes. Fortunately mushrooms are easier to photograph 😂. You have to start somewhere.

Thank you and besides the light and the movement the photos are not too bad.
Normally I get them much clearer, but one has to take what one can get.
Hahaha, I started with dragonflies !LOLZ

How exciting when they do a fly by over ones head, nice photography to see the amazing wings at work in the wind.

Rains have just arrived and hopefully stay overnight, one could smell the rain over the hills approaching it has been hot and dry, now watch the lawns growing again.

Not exactly over my head and that bugger was high up Lady Joan.
Had he been closer I would have gotten him clear on the Sports setting.

Ah, yes, nothing like the smell of approaching rain and I think that even the grass is excited 😊

Eagles rule the skies, no need for low flight except when coming down for prey, oh those thermals to dance on an updraft!

No matter how close or high, always exciting trying to capture some shots with them doing speeds hard to predict.

Ha, on the apple farm I had Buzzards fly past me at 2 meter distances. Opposing winds can certainly put up beautiful battle with the clouds caught in between.

Especially difficult on the zoom my friend.

Thank you Hannes and yes that is certainly one majestic flyer.
I think that he liked my camera as he was high up and something must have blinked in the sun.
If he came in low I would have got him clear.
Like this.

I got this one on the apple farm flying over.

Cheers and thanks.

A real beauty, my friend. You might be right that he could have been curious on something on the ground.

Oh yes and they have amazing eyesight that can spot the smallest thing on land while they are more that a mile high up in the sky.

Cheers and thanks.

So at the moment you battle to see the food on your table. With their sight you will be able to see what the boss do in the office 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

I don't need good eyes to see what the boss does in his office - there's nothing to see 🤣 no !LOLZ left

Ah! So you mean that the boss never works in his office.
But you might see him sitting and posting or doing replies on hive and maybe having a look at your blog from time to time 🤣🤣🤣

Cheers and thanks.
