International Oceans Day, 8 June.

So, how do we celebrate this special day?
376.jpg
Well we would spread some awareness by taking a short walk on the beach to a river mouth at the ocean.

Greetings to all on in the #wednesdaywalk community and also all on #hive
On this supposed to be special day of our appreciation of the life giving powers of the ocean, I thought to show you something that is more important.
We are killing the sea life and subsequently ourselves.

A lovely photo below, but the empty bottle spoils it.

Signs of destruction in the photos.

Marine litter threatens ecosystems, affects public health and negatively impacts fishery and tourism industries around the globe. It tricks wildlife: Animals can easily get trapped in plastic bags or discarded fishing gear, or they mistake plastic for their food and it enters the food chain.
Larger plastic particles get broken down into smaller particles through degradation, forming lots of micro plastics which become the carrier of a range of contaminants. Heavy metals and pathogens are contaminants that can be ingested by organisms and introduced to the food chain.

299.JPG

So, the plastics enter the human food chain and it simply means that we are eating plastic organisms in our food.
Now I know that we blame our water works and our governments for this and we lay the blame elsewhere, but this concerns each one of us.
So next time that you visit the beach, please take a bag with you and kindly pick up any litter that you may see.
If we don't care, then we cannot expect others to care.

I apologize if this sounds like a rant, but it is an issue that is close to my heart, and we simply cannot continue like this.

And That's All Friends.

Hello dear friend @papilloncharity good day
What a beautiful way to celebrate and commemorate the international day of the ocean, sharing these awareness-raising images about this enormous environmental problem.
You can't believe how people go to great lengths to destroy our environment and our natural resources.
Beautiful images for today's walk
have a great day

Thank you Sir and yes, they recon that we have reached the point of no return. Nature is very angry and there is destruction all over the world.
One of these days we will say if only we listened and acted.
I am glad that you appreciated the post.

Waters are polluted our estuary is plugged up with mud, life has to change or we will as a human species not exist much longer.

In total agreement something should have been done yesterday, tomorrow is too late!

Agreed Lady Joan and some scientists reckon the we have passed the turn around point.
So now the real suffering will start to appear.

Note: BEER and soon LUV may no longer be used with other tokens.

But !WINEX and !PIZZA can still be used.

Environment changing has been talked about since the 70's, sadly more humans, more destruction, it will take massive concerted effort to try right the wrongs.

Thanks for update on tokens, one misses out a week and change happens so quickly here 🙃

Sadly that "massive concerted effort" is as distant as what the sun is from the moon my friend.
There is no money in cleaning up and the business world is guarding their profits.
So only empty lip service.

Yeah, changes abound in hive.

The focus is sadly not in the people my friend. As long as the focus remains on the hopeful points scoring and the eventual achievement of power, this country will remain hopeless.
Welcome to my saying, as I would have used it here :)

Food and warm clothing is what is being called for here, some places in our towns on the coast are only starting to get water. Rural folk really battling so trucks, bakkies carry water/warmth wherever possible to them. No people in power to be seen, work carries on with NGO/NPO or nothing would be done.

Makes me so angry to read this. Where are the politicians now when the work has started?
Surely they should be on the frontlines directing repair operations and assistance to the people.
But then again, there's no points to score for this.
NGO/NPO's are the bloodline of this country my friend.

Yes we saw that E.Coli count and it really is bad news. I hope that they will start be repairing the damaged water purifying works.

Sardines could be poisoned if they come close.

Durban is swimming in shit, apparently repairing smaller problems before tackling the large..., typical.

City/Suburban life is so different to rural up North where smaller communities appear to work more fluidly without interference all the time.

So right and the Covid lockdown resulted into many more townships being built here where they shouldn't be built. Even inside one of the nature reserves, as all evictions were banned.
Now they have joined the flooding list.

you raise a good point, I get so frustrated when I go for my morning walks and see trash on the beach, I walked a beach yesterday that had trash on it and it so annoyed me, luckily I had a plastic bag with me and cleaned it up, but that said luckily it wasnt as bad as this beach you share so much trash

we as Humans really have to step up and ensure both ourselves but also our governments start stepping up to the plate and saving our environments

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Hello dear @papilloncaridad !

Very interesting the problematic that you put on the table today in the family of #HIVE!

Unfortunately, many have taken our oceans as big dumpsters to get rid of hundreds of thousands of tons. I still remember when I saw a documentary in which they showed how immense amounts of waste were disposed of in places whose seabeds are at great depths.

The pollution of our oceans is one of the worst pollutions, because as we mentioned, metals and plastics can be ingested by ourselves when we ingest seafood.

But beyond that, we have to be aware that in the oceans we find a great biodiversity and many species are in danger of extinction.

It is necessary for humans to understand that we cannot destroy everything we find in our path and that we must build the foundations to create a better society, in which we all understand that the planet is our home and we must keep it clean.

A few days ago I watched a documentary where Canadian companies were in the process of removing garbage from the ocean, which filled me with joy.

We must all work for a change!

Big hug! Thanks for your publication!!!

Sad to see all of that litter… placed or washed a shore. Wished more people would think about what they do. I always try to pick up when I see stuff around me.

Great captures though from the gulls. 😁 and the water edge.

Heartsore stuff my friend and even if we clean all of that, then the next day it looks the same again.
People have no respect for themselves and that's why they have no respect for nature. They simply see it as a rubbish bin.
