Metallic color changes and other beauties!

070 2.JPG

This is the natural green metallic color of our Malachite songbirds (Nectarinia famosa).

They sing only a single short note and it's very difficult to get a singer on camera.

But it's the color change to blue in the sunlight that I am showing you here.

This here below, is the same bird in a very weak cloud break that allowed some sunlight to peep through.

145 2.JPG

The little Cape White Eye (Zosterops virens) had better luck in the sun while eating on a Mulberry tree.

179.JPG

A little female Swee Waxbill (Coccopygia melanotis)!

282.JPG

A real little beauty as she cleans her wing.

277.JPG

The little Swee's were at a family picnic here and they were enjoying some grass seeds!

292.JPG

Here we have another difficult shot of a Southern Double- collared Sunbird (Cinnyris chalybeus) in a high tree.

124.JPG

And finally we have a Cape Bulbul (Pycnonotus capensis) having a go at some Syringa tree berries!

162.JPG

I want to explain the Malachite's color changes to you in scientific terms.

"We observed, in a dense succulent thicket, a glossy blue-plumaged bird which we at first thought was a Cape Glossy Starling. We saw that this blue bird was accompanied by a sunbird with dark brown dorsal plumage and a white belly. The blue bird was then seen to be a sunbird as well".

"No matter which way it turned, clambering through the dense scrub, no green was observed, only a deep, royal blue. The blue bird was identified as a male Malachite Sunbird Nectarinia famosa, with aberrant plumage, and the second bird as a female of the same species".

They change to dark blue to absorb more sunlight into their bodies!

And here you have it as I thought that I was seeing this when this Malachite's color suddenly changed when he sat in a different tree. The same single note sound and the same body, but a beautiful dark blue color. Pity that it was not a clear day, but I will get them on a clear day soon.

So, like you and I change out of jackets when it gets hot, just so the Malachite changes from dark blue to the green metallic!
Amazing isn't it?

And That's All Friends!

This is my favorite out of the bunch :)

Do Mulberries taste like raspberries?

Thank you for the visit and no Mulberries have a different sweet taste. But beware, get that juice on your shirt and you will never get it out. We used to nab pockets full of mulberries :)

The old mulberry tree is on a strawberry farm that we visited. Don't you guys have mulberries over there?

WE have raspberries and there are tow different varieties - but looking at your pictures I was wondering if we have mulberries. I don't think so - but will check next season.

It is very likely that you will find mulberries there, as it is a beautiful tree that people like to plant in their gardens.
If not, then I can send you some mulberry seeds lol.

It's hard for me to remember our own birds names, but yours are as complicated as they are beautiful, Zac 😊
Such beautiful colours, especially the Malachite looks amazing 😁

Thank you my friend!

Weather didn't play the game Hannes and they were in high trees, but I will know the Malachite's call anywhere.
Thankfully they are all South African birds and we have their Latin names in our books, so no need for Google hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

As said, I don't even remember many of our own birds, but yours are more beautiful anyway.

We are blessed with the birdlife here my friend.
At the moment here in our garden the Cape Sparrows and the Weavers have babies that they are feeding bread that the Egyptian geese have left and all of our other small birds keep a low profile lol.
Waiting for the Dragonfly season to start as there will be much fun with them again.

And if I don't see to you here again tonight, then I will say a good night to you here, as I will still continue for a while.

Cheers and thanks!

Yeah, that's true and I'm longing to move back to the countryside where we have much more wildlife than near the town.

I'm looking forward to the dragonfly photos 😊

A few more years my friend and it will be all around you.

I saw that both you and I are helping our friend big time and I have also nominated his community for support adoption by OCD. Maybe you can also nominate his community if you have not done that already?

Amazing how the timing in nature works as all of the spring baby birds need feeding now and there are no dragonflies around. Once the babies are big enough they all go away and then the dragonflies start to appear.

Cheers and thanks!

I know, but you know that I don't have any patience 😉

I'll have a look at OCD later.

Yes, nature is always fascinating. I haven't thought about such timing things yet, but it sounds interesting - the dragonflies come when there's not so much danger anymore, that's cool 😀

Well beware as you are on our prayer list and just maybe buckets of patience will be granted to you lol.
You just have to convince your soul to "be still"

yes, excellent timing for the short period that the dragonflies become alive to mate and to lay new eggs. Then they all die off and we have to wait for the new ones to emerge in the next year. Did you know that they spend most of their lives for up to 7 years under the water as nymphs?
So, it will not be from the new eggs that they lay during this year, but from a batch that was laid years ago that the new dragonflies will come this year!

Cheers and thanks!

I think my soul wouldn't be the problem, but also my feet can't be still - they even "walk" while I sleep 🤣

Yes, I have heard that the nymphs of dragonflies live under water for a while, but not that it lasts so long, and 7 years are quite a long time.

What might work is that you should hide your slippers and your shoes somewhere Hannes.
Then they won't walk around in your sleep lol.

Ask auntie Google about dragonfly nymphs my friend. They are even better hunters of prey as nymphs under water.

Cheers and thanks!

An easy one to cure barefoot sleep walking Hannes. Grease the floors hahaha.
That must have been a great video, as the nymphs are vicious little critters and they rip their prey apart.

Hahaha, be careful my brother as that girly nurse might become a temptation lol.
Mother nature might regard it as a need and place you in a situation where you will be surrounded by pretty girly nurses hahaha.
They say that one should never tempt fate, but you and I seem to love doing it lol.

Yeah, those little buggers are brutal with the jaws that they have!

Cheers and thanks!

Good late evening Hannes,

At last our IT issue is fixed and I could only get in 40 minutes ago.
Learned a valuable lesson to reset the mobile modem and now it's all okay.

If you had no luck with mother nature to grant you the correct numbers then if was you I would really be worried about the kind of nurse that you will get lol.
She might be as beautiful as an angel, but have sadistic souls like the devil hahaha.
I bet mother nature knows what food you avoid and dislike and she will give the nurse those foods to feed you every day lol.
How do they say; love will fly out of the window hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac,

now, you have tried so many times to get me away from this lovely nurse I am dreaming of all the time, and you finally got it - it's the food 😉 There are only I few things which I wouldn't eat, and Mother Nature certainly knows which they are.
So, I will never ever talk about this beautiful and nice nurse again, I don't promise 🤣

A restart or with such devices a reset is always a good idea.

Good morning Hannes,

So food is your weak spot and very dangerous to reveal your weak spots to me, as it will end in in endless haranguing hahahah
Glad that the issue has pushed the nurse issue on the back burner and that you are now restored to the your normal Austrian mountain goat status again lol. Very wise not to tempt mother nature.

Yeah that restart released a document from the supplier that we are supposed to complete and accept at the original installation and that we never did. That's why our feed was so troublesome, as they treated us as visitors and not as members. All good now and I hope that it stays that way lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Good day Zac 😄

No, I wouldn't say food is my weak spot, but there are a few things I wouldn't want to eat, and if this person I don't talk about anymore would feed me just this food it would be terrible for me 😝

Aha, you never agreed to their terms and conditions or so. That's strange that they didn't ask you again.

Good Day Hannes,

So, now we speak about the person that you no longer want to speak of?
I wonder who that could possibly be, but I think that maybe its a young person with a very shapely body that wears a short white uniform. Or maybe I am wrong here, as it could be anybody lol.

The thing is that their terms and conditions kept on popping up, but we deleted it every time thinking that we already had the modem and fearing that it might be scammers lol.
So now we know that they have interrupted our feed and that they are not scammers hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

No, let's not speak about that person who would feed me with disgusting food 😉

Okay, I think that we can close that conversation lol.
It's the fine print that's the pain and if the sellers want to drop in extra charges or any other surprises, they simply drop it into the fine print. Insurances are also very fond of fine print lol.

Good morning JJ
Cannot blame you as after a busy day, a fire pit is very soothing treatment lol.
Sounds like you ended the day very well .

Ohh yeah it was a nice way tot he end the day pretty chilly out but the fire pit mad eup for that, we were going to do the same last night but its a drought here and the winds were gusting so didn't want to risk enbers flying in the wind and starting a free somewhere, maybe tonight we will

We have special fire screens that we place around the fire pits, as we have gale force winds here JJ.

Here is a strange story.
Marian and I went for our daily walk when we still stayed on the apple farm and as we came down a hill, I told her that I could smell fire. Now on that hill we could see for miles around in all directions and there was not one little bit of smoke to be seen

So we arrived back at the cottage and went about our normal business. Now hear this!
3 hours later we heard the fire alarms and Marian's phone was going crazy with calls to all of the neighboring farmers and their crews to go and fight the fire.

We went straight back up on that hill and we saw the smoke a few miles down the road on another farm. Turned out to be some farm laborers burned old stuff on a harvested patch of land and the wind grabbed itself some sparks to make it's own fire.

The thing is that I couldn't have smelled the fire, as it was downwind of us. Spooky stuff!

I do have a cover/screen that covers ours when its going and it probably would have been fine maybe I just didn't want to be out there last night, we had it running tonight :)

That is a spooky Story for sure, its like when there was the terror attack in London, Lulus niece was sin LOndon that day and no one had heard from her and everyone was worried, Mark her son was having a nap and she went to wake him, he sat up and said shes OK she is in a Pub, there is no cell service, or phones working she will call in twenty minutes, Lulu said what and Mark said i have no idea who or what that means, and almost exactly 20 Minute slqater Reem called her MUm, that was weird as well

0

avatar

Ah, okay so you know about the screens.

That is indeed also a very strange story. One hears the stories from time to time and can only wonder about what's going on that we know nothing about. They call it "strange occurrences" for a reason, as no one has been able to penetrate the mystery about how it happens.

Marks Lulus son has a few what we jokingly call witchy moments where he says something that later comes to be, but this one with Reem was the most amazing and i will never forget it

Have a great day

I think that those "witchy" moments exist all over the world JJ.
We had a guy here that they called "the seer" and he wrote a book about some events, like the dams drying up, the drought, the government being replaced, and some other things, which all became true several years later.

There is a secret place in the brain that is only opened to selected people so that they can see in the "dark" and like I said, we know nothing about it and can only wonder about it.
But then again, the Bible tells us to believe in the unseen!

Cheers

Yes indeed, and I think your right it is probably in all of our brains but only a few have it opened up more than others

So true and many search for it and even offer "enlightenment" courses, but it is the ones that have the natural ability to see those things that are the true ones.
They can be found in many families and even Marian's sister have dreams that turn into reality, but she prefers not to take it any further.
Such is life my friend.

I have read about those types of course but have mixed feelings about them, I think they may be good if one has a sense that they have some abilities and to help bring them out but i don't think they work for everyone

My wife often used to want me to do some sort of thing like that for healing and she feels I am a healer, and I have had some experiences that could relate to that but I have put off doing anything

My daughter took one of those "reach your inner self, mind control, enlightenment" courses and she returned very disappointed JJ.
You are right, as they are not meant for everyone.

You might see your healing talents emerging naturally in your charity work my friend.
Let's see what happens.

Just pray and ask for guidance, always works for me, as I don't see it as work, but rather adventures lol.
Act on your instincts when needed and remember that the small voice inside is always right.
Many times, I ignore that small voice and rue it afterwards lol.

0

That’s very sound advise and I will take it onboard
I do try to listen to the small voice in my head as often as I can

0
0
0.000
avatar

So do I but we both have a sort of rebellious nature and things can get difficult at times. In my case I hear that little voice, but my mistake is that then I start to think. Once I start thinking then the small voice disappears and then I am left on my own to screw things up lol.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Lol but I guess it’s good we are only hearing one voice in our heads not many of them

0
0
0.000
avatar

Hahaha, oh yeah, many voices could indeed be a problem as we would walk around having continued discussions with ourselves lol.

So, you are in a supermarket where there's a lot of people and you say aloud "Hey, stop that" to another voice you say, "Yes, that's better". Then to a third voice you say; "Oh, no not you again". To a fourth voice you say; "Are you mad?, I can't touch her" and so on as you continue to answer the voices with a crowd of gaping mouths open watching you 🤣
