Smashed heat records yesterday.

(Edited)

A very hot day that made even the statues yawn.
054.jpg

This was after sunset last night and they say that a pink color reflects that the following day will also be very hot.

Some areas in the western and northern regions reached highs of 54.3°C.
A senior weather forecaster said these conditions would last throughout the day.
Members of the public in all affected areas have been reminded to be watchful for fires, stay out of the sun and stay hydrated.

I think that there was also a fire in the sky as the clouds in the photo below gives one the impression of burning clouds.
061.jpg

Right, that was yesterday and now let's look at today.

This was the sight of the heat blanched mountains during the morning.
068.jpg

074.jpg

And here below we had a look during the afternoon.

Slender columns of clouds were trying to lead other clouds behind the mountains into our view, but it was a no go, as a hot wind from the ocean side simply evaporated the leading clouds.

081.jpg

181.jpg

Nevertheless, the clouds kept on trying, but they were no match for the hot winds.
088.jpg

But there is another danger of the heat that I want to discuss. FIRES!
Can you believe that we have already had 64 wild fires in the Western Cape Province?

This is a must read source link below.

Trapped in heatwave, firefighters battle Cape fires while SPCA appeals for help.
Residents in the Western Cape, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape have been urged to be on the lookout for veld fires as heatwave conditions continue.
The warning from the South African Weather Service for the severe heat and potential fires was set to be in place until Sunday evening.
Firefighters continue to tirelessly battle wildfires amid the heatwave.

Cape Town alone recorded 64 vegetation fires over a 24-hour period with visitors to Table Mountain's Silvermine reserve having to be evacuated.

So, to all Saffers here on Hive, please keep your eyes out and if you see a fire please contact the number supplied in the link.

Looking through a mirage of heat to the mountain, so many flock to the beach which in my mind is not the right place to be, rather hide away indoors!

Take care, the Cape is having an exceptionally hot time and yes those fires!

Amazing how a dense cloud rolled in late this afternoon and hopefully we will have a cooler night.
The hospitals must have been full with sun casualties last night and I will see if any figures have been published.

We try to stay out of harms way my friend.

Thank you kindly for the tipu support.

Whenever people swarm down to the beach there are sunburn cases, even the protection used no longer works. Well I hope this new week cools down and the weather changes soon, fires from lightning strikes another problem after balmy hot days like this!

Alcohol on the beaches are another big problem as many fall asleep in that sun. You can imagine what they look like after a few hours of sleep.

Oh yes, we also had problems with lightning strikes starting fires inland. I think it was in Worcester and Robinson, or somewhere in that area.
Thankfully we have a strong cool wind today neutralizing the heat. A real breather.

Alcohol banned on beaches, suppose some sneak a couple bottles through then pay the consequence later.

Enjoy the cool breeze, we are dry and hot here again.... dripping!

Alcohol banned on the beaches, but no law banning a bar in the boot of a car.

Only on Sunday will our temperatures rise into the late 30s again.
29C is starting to feel good 😉

During the day only water is refreshing, sometimes an Appletizer when going out.

How people can enjoy alcohol in the heat during hot day beats me.... Boot had better have a cooler box!

25C at night, 32C daytime with real feel 37C, climb into the car after shopping reads 40-45C on hot tarmac!

Only cold bottled fridge water for me with the odd cup of coffee in between.

Nope not 1 cooler box, rather 3-4 cooler boxes.

Oh yes, they claim that the heat in the cars are generated heat and not natural heat.
My cousin in Thabazimbi gets 52C in his car.

Cold water all day long here after wake up coffee in the morning.

No wonder people end up in hospitals after a day on the beach, they become dehydrated and sun burn, their problem and should be fined!

Thabazimbi is where my brother was for a couple of years with mines, never went there but as hot as hell, used to say you wet yourself clothing and all then worked in the garden in the early morning, half an hour you would be totally dry.

We seem to run the same beat lately.

I would not like to wake up with a heavy hangover after spending a day of heavy drinking on the beach in that sun. It would really feel like a hundred buffalo trampled one into the burning sands !LOLZ

Yes, my cousin and his 3 sons work in a big platinum mine there. His father (my uncle) also used to work in the mines all over the place, but he is now deceased.
So strange as both he and my mother grew up at our huge family farm in Zebediela near Polokwane.

The few nights that we spent in Thabazimbi was certainly very hot.

Never imbibed on a beach, normally go for long walks leaving alcohol for sundowner time since young.

Teenage years hit a pipe or two with Appletizer way to go, relax and enjoy the beach when we came down from the Transvaal, bit of fishing in between for Shad on a braai.

My late brother really wanted us to visit the region to see Augrabies Falls and surrounds, was a little too far with boys under the age of ten. We did get to visit at many other mining villages.

Now I would be lying if I said it was the same with me. In my twenties I was one of those hell raisers and alcohol was my regular drink.

Only time that I saw the beach in my teenage years was a trip with the Star Seaside Fund.
We never had a car, as my mom was a single parent and I had one of those old Post Office delivery bicycles.

Yeah I visited Pietersberg with my 3 small ones a few times and the trips were always difficult. Now it's called Polekwane and I have been there last when my uncle died years ago. Don't think I will ever go there again. My other uncle worked in Witbank and it was always a cool quick stop over on the way up north.

Had fun growing up, almost had a license to do whatever you felt like, takes awhile to realize you have to change direction, follow a path more acceptable haha. also think is wrong, losing ones free spirit!

Dad working SAR&H after war, was a SAR&H and MOTH member so we traveled by train to cottages available along the coast in December for two to three weeks a year.

Hahaha, not a license for everything as I only got my drivers license in 1988.
But I know what you mean, with the dumbing down of that free spirit.

Oh yes I remember and it must have been great adventures for you guys.

Drivers license was 1977, punishment for my little sister to take me on lessons in her little Renault 😌, told me to learn to drive after letting me down once, so I did!

Cardboard skiing down minedumps, walking the koppies it was all good!

I hope that you don't have too many fires. When I was living in the south of Spain, during the very hot dry summers, we had too many wildfires that often got out of control and threatened life as well as buildings.

We have had 64 fires already for the month of January and still counting.
Everyone here is praying for rain.
