Some fights on a dam today.

Short tempers are in abundance in all of us today, including nature.
219.jpg

Peace seems to be temporary nowadays and this couple of Egyptian geese made a perfect picture of happiness.

But the peace was soon shattered by angry squeals and fighting birds.
Our power will be switched off at 6pm, so I have to bust a gut to get this post in before we are cut off. Will see you again at 9pm.
Normally I like to spend a lot of time on a post, but we have to keep on dodging the powercuts. So yes, this makes that we all walk around with short tempers established originally by the Covid thing and the powercuts are only the icing on the cake.
Come and see what the animals think about it.
This guy charged in, and his aim was the little bird at the bottom of the picture.
355.JPG

But that bird sitting at the right of the picture above, counter attacked the charger.
356.JPG

Here we had another scenario where a big bird in the front tried to attack the smaller bird, but you can see that help was on the way.
360.JPG

Now how is this for a special rugby tackle?
304.JPG

And after the tackle, the fight was on.
302.JPG

Did I tell you that the fight was on in all seriousness.
344.JPG

There will always be a winner and a loser. Better to run away, so one can fight on another day.
255.JPG

The dam is covered by an algae virus that we have on most of our dams now in South Africa. Now that the Winter cold is starting, the virus seems to have increased in volume to cover the water.
In some photos here, it looks like the birds are running on sand, but instead they are running on algae covered water.
They do cope with it, by the looks of it as there were also some baby birds around, and the algae did not seem to affect them.
Thank goodness for that, and I hope that you enjoyed the post.

Looks like the goose was after the coot, must be having a bad day at the office.... Water is contaminated throughout the land, most in a very bad way I am surprised the birds are still there.

Here in our region with so much shit/sewerage in the water most small dams no longer have bird life they have moved to the rivers or cleaner ponds, hopefully once the mess has been cleared, water correct conditions the birds will arrive once more.

!LUV for excellent captures!
!BEER !WINEX for me after this last weekend 😅

Oh yeah, the coots are vindictive protectors of their territories and beware any other bird that intrudes.
They say that to assess an area's health, simply look if there are butterflies and birds.
Thankfully we still have many here.

Let's hope that it can be cleared, but I don't have much faith in the waterworks. Neither in the government, as they should ban all habitations near river banks. Of course the industrial areas also carry much guilt for contaminating the rivers and spills as they call it should result in big penalties.

Our country is being stripped of it's metal infrastructure and animals and I wonder why the exports cannot be banned.

My roommate keeps saying that our house is haunted.
But I've lived here for last 216 years, and haven't heard anything unusual.

Rivers have been washed clean, it's all on the beaches being cleared now. Bird life on rivers will thrive for awhile till next load is dumped.

Water and electricity all inferior workmanship with not many qualified to oversee, hit and miss for years to come....

Take life one day at a time with a pinch of salt, can only do what we can afford.

Let's hope that the next dump will not happen soon my friend. Great if it could only happen next year, or not at all.

I just don't understand the Eskom thing. They got rid of all of the engineers and replaced them with cadres. Now they want to re-employ the engineers to train their employees and then they will get rid of the engineers again. Doesn't make sense to me.

Oh yes, every day has enough troubles of its own. Pinch of salt works.

With Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment this happened everywhere, too fast to throw people away, most have left the country, or pensioners no longer interested. They will bring Chinese or Russian cadres in seeing as they feel they 'owe them' along with northern Africa from years of 'struggle'.

Unskilled cadres my friend that will only dig the pit deeper. But learning from mistakes are very difficult here and one can see many lessons in Medupi and Kusile. Yes some got rich via corruption, but at what cost to the nation?
China, Russia and Cuba are the favorites, but they cannot do without the west. It was a UK company that designed the "White Monopoly" farce.

I think these birds fight just to show power and getting good position level. These egyptian geese are so beautiful and nice to see.

Oh yes, you are right as the birds protect their seniority and their territories.
Sometimes though the intruders get killed, but it is mostly just a show of strength.

We have many Egyptian geese here and they are indeed beautiful.

I was just watching the other day one of those compilation videos that I sometimes watch when I'm tired that are just a mishmash of cool short videos put together. One of them had these two blackbirds fighting on the sidewalk, and the lady filming in her car rolled down her window and yelled something like "HEY! You two knock it off! I'm gonna tell your mama!" ...and they stopped fighting. 😂

What a funny story and I think the mention of "mama" was the trigger to stop the fight immediately.
Mama's can put the fear into anyone or anything 🤣
Btw. I also like to sit and watch the short videos 😉

Wow, what a fight! Those are the instincts. Animals need to protect their families, their territory.

Oh yes and humans have similar instincts my friend.
I did not post all of the photos of the fight, as I kept some for a future post.
