Greetings to all and I start off here with the hope of at least getting some smiles. Life is tough and a smile is always good medicine methinks.

The Malachite Sunbird was happily having a late afternoon snack on a red pincushion, but there was an unexpected surprise approaching in his neither region.

What was that? Just in time he whipped his bum out of the way.

I think that the bee saw himself as the owner of that particular flower and he wanted to evict the new squatter by stinging him in the bum. It is against the law here to remove illegal occupiers by force, but I assume that the law is not applied in nature :)
Nature has its own rules and it's normally a free for all situation.

So, the malachite moved to a different flower just to keep the peace, you know.

Plenty bugs in the air and I saw that the Southern Double-collared Sunbird was getting a bit rotund.

Finally, come and watch how the female Malachite takes off from her nest to also go and eat some bugs.

She looked like a dancer in the sky during her hunt for flying insects.

I am sure that had that bee gotten the Malachite with a sting in his bum, that the malachite will never sit on a pincushion flower again :)
Just as well that he moved, as I think that the bee was on his way to collect some of his gang members to persuade the malachite by force to evacuate in a hurry. But be it as it may, peace reigned.
Soon we will have some malachite babies and I cannot wait to get them on camera, so I keep an eye on that nest every day. A worry though is the weather, as some storm force winds are on their way and a wind of 50 or 60 kph, can rip that nest out of the bush. But we are holding thumbs that it will not happen.

Miles of smiles with the attack approach bee, flowers look superb right now, time for the babies soon. Hope the nests survive winds, babies don't arrive too early it has been the coldest Cape Winter in the last 5 years.

Hahaha, yes, I enjoyed that case. Flowers are rapidly developing and the good news is that we saw the male at the nest today. So, that means that eggs have hatched as he never visits the nest when there are eggs in it. We also saw the mom clearing the soft stuff out of the nest, to make space for the quick growing babies. At first sight of the babies, I will do a comprehensive post about it all.

In the first picture, it looks like the bee is about to do a sting on his butt. 😅🤣🤣🤣

Yes, the bee wanted to sting him, but in the second picture you will see that the bird whipped his butt out of the way !LOL
