Some majestic landscapes.

You have to love nature to appreciate what is starting to take place here.

We had a warning that three cold fronts with tons of water was on it's way. The first to start settling in today. I took these photos an hour ago.

So come, kick off your shoes and with a mug of coffee watch with us how the advancing clouds were rolling in.

Sjoe, the south-west is suffering. The Western Cape is in for a teeth-chattering 48 hours or so, with a total of THREE cold fronts set to reach Cape Town and its surrounding areas by Saturday. A substantial amount of rain is coming – but just how bad will it be?

And finally the soft drops have started to fall.

We are known as "The Cape of Storms" due to our tempestuous gale force winds and very rough rock filled seas. Any ship captain's nightmare!
Hundreds of ships, especially the old sail ships, stood no chance against nature's forces. I feel that power many times when I pop out to take photos of advancing storms. A strong sniping wind that snaps my ears around like an elephant's. So here you can see some fabulous landscapes of the start of the first cold front.
They reckon that we can look at 95mm of rain and I fear for those that live in the townships that are below the flood water levels.
So here is hoping that everyone will be safe.

And That's All Friends.

Enjoying lovely weather at the moment with light snow on the Berg, Durban swings from 14 in the morning to 23 during the day, ideal!

When wind blows in the Cape it moves everything in it's path, we last port of call perhaps we will get some rain which we need as well.

Sounds like perfect weather over there, not too hot and not too cold. Talking about cold, we have 3 cold fronts on their way and the first one landed this afternoon. Icy cold winds and much water soon.

So true and yes, I hope as always that the rain will also reach you guys.

These views are majestic indeed, my friend, and I do hope that the storms will not be too bad and the rain only fills up the reservoirs and doesn't cause any floodings.

Thank you Hannes and we are also praying that the storms will only fill up the dams.
Like I said before, a plan has to be made to relocate the people that live below the flood line, as it gets them the worst every time.

Cheers and thanks.

I know we have spoken about these people a few times before and that I can't understand why they still were not relocated and why your government doesn't close this area for settlement.
I know there's a lot money involved, but if the government made a law that forbids to live in these areas it all would be better, I believe.

A very tricky situation Hannes. The law is the law, but thankfully it prevents people to be relocated against their will. Not a lot of land around the cities are available and and if they want to move people to higher ground far away from their work places, then the people simply refuse to go.

Restricted areas are simply occupied and there is nothing that the government can do about it.
So it's a catch 22 situation.

!Cheers and thanks.

Well, I would say relocating them to a safer place wouldn't be wrong, even against their will. But the government would have to take care that they'll still be able to get to their work.
I know what you'll say, but here you wouldn't be allowed to live in such an area.

Many say this Hannes, but I like to look at the human element. So if I earn a small salary at my job and I can barely feed my kids, what would be my choice?
To be moved far from my job that will cost me more than half of my salary for transport to work and back? Or to continue to stay where I am and walk to work?

There are many variants to the situation and entitlement also plays a big role.
It is a big problem and we so hope that a solution could be found that everyone would be happy with.

Cheers and thanks.

Well, if a flood might destroy everything I own, I would move to a safer place even if I had to spend more. But I said that the government would have to take care that they still will be able get to work easily and without much more cost.

But of course, I'm living on a safe place and I certainly have no idea how it is to live their life.

If all of them were employed it will not be a problem, but none of them are, as in order to survive they sell vegetables and other goods at their stalls just to get some money.
Like I said it is a very complicated issue that needs much engagement and deliberations.

We see them and talk to them when we go into the townships and I can tell you that it is a horrible lifestyle my friend. To live with your family in one small tin shack is not very nice. I can tell you many stories about their daily sufferings, but let's just say that they don't have anything easy.

Cheers and thanks.

I understand what you're saying and that it's complicated, but please forgive me that I don't understand that after so many years it's still the same.

Now that's another problem for as soon as housing is done for the people that are on a waiting list, then more new people stream in in to the people's old places and more waiting lists have to be done for the new arrivals. I am talking about thousands here my friend.

So it is an ever changing situation.

Cheers and thanks.
