Some wild bird action on show!

IMG_5443.JPG

A Cormorant dive and take off and a Falcon with his catch!

I have a mix of photos here to show you the wonder of this world that we live in. Maybe my written posts with many photos are too long for quick consumption and I will try here to do something shorter.
Come and be amazed!

028.JPG

I waited for the dive in the photo above and here above he was emerging from the water!

025.JPG

Sadly he missed the strike and was on his way!

IMG_5598.JPG

A distant photo of a Falcon in a high tree!

IMG_5551.JPG

And here is the Falcon with his catch in the same tree.!

IMG_6115.JPG

Looking like a real hunter here!

The peace of a Sunday reflected by this Loerie couple!

IMG_6413.JPG

And finally just a bird on his way to the moon!

We hope that everyone will have a relaxing Sunday and that the coming week will treat all of us well.
Let's also hope that like the bird in the last photo, Hive will also start to head for the moon!

And That's All Folks!

Note; All photos are my own and a few are older ones from my files. I have all of the originals. The photos are unedited and cropped for uploading.
Camera used; Canon Powershot SX60HS

Wow, these are cool shots, Zac, these beautiful photos suit a nice Sunday very well 😄🌞

That Falcon and his prey looks great, very good shot 👍

Thank you Hannes.

My thought was to place something relaxing today, but it must also please the eyes.
So, I tried a short mix to suit many tastes.

That Falcon kept me very busy and I have many shots of him. I also managed to get the feared Harrier Hawk in that same tree.

Talking about trees, we went to have a look at some storm damaged trees this afternoon and made a serious discovery. Some kind of bug is eating at the tree centers, weakening the tree cores and that's why the strong winds can snap the trees. I will do a post about it.

Cheers and thanks!

Really great shots 😀

Well, that might be a serious problem, as you say. We have a bug whose larvae lives under the bark of the trees and destroys them that way.

Cheers and !BEER and good night Zac 😴

May you have a good rest my friend and a hearty good night to you guys!.

Marian will send my photos to the authorities in a complaint Hannes.
So we will wait to see if they take action.
If not, then we will go the newspaper route to wake them up, as there is a treatment that all of the apple farmers use to protect their trees. It might not be the same treatment, but it could be similar.

Nothing is worse than seeing a once healthy tree toppled by the wind because of the bugs.
They bore right into the center core of the tree and it's like a cancer.
You will see this photo in my post tomorrow!

Well, that looks very bad, but I don't know what kind of bug this could be. I haven't seen anything similar yet. Maybe the authorities know already about it and they have a treat against this bug, who knows.

Yeah, you are right, as they might know the bug, but I have seen no signs of treatment there. Normally chemicals will leave white traces when it dries.
We will investigate.

Cheers and thanks!

Here they cut trees, which are infected by the Bark beetle. So there's no chemical treatment.

The beetle here is an invasive one and our trees have no defence against them.
They burrow into the living trees where they establish brood galleries and that's where they lay their eggs.
What happens is the beetles introduce a fungus, which becomes food for larvae and adult beetles.
This fungus blocks the water conducting tissues of the tree and ultimately weakens the tree core for the wind to snap it.
They say that this beetle is as small as a flea.

The beetle is called; Polyphagous shot hole borer beetle.

But that's not all.

We also have the "Wood wasps and Horn tail wasps". (Sirex noctilio)

They drill into the stressed trees to lay their eggs introducing a poisonous mucus and symbiotic fungus that kill the tree.

So, I have been doing some research and it seems that all of our grand old trees are in trouble.

Marian has sent a complaint, but still no answer.

Cheers and thanks!

Sometimes I wonder what purpose such species could have if they actually just destroy other lives.

We have wood wasps too, but I haven't heard that they would mean a big problem.

I hope you will get a satisfying answer from your authorities soon and that they can help somehow.

A good question and I have the same question about mosquitos lol.
I am waiting for a reply before I do the post.

Cheers and thanks!

What if I don't reply? lol

Mosquitos or bosses, I can't find a purpose for both 😉

No Hannes, not your reply, I am waiting for the authorities to reply.

Exactly right, but the eco system is so well engineered that they simply have to have a purpose that we don't know about. One thing that I do know is that dragonflies love to eat mosquitos lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Haha, I really thought you wre waiting for my reply ;) lol

So, the mosquitos are there for the dragonflies, and I suppose the bosses are there because someone has to do that job 🤣

Hahaha and no reply yet from the authorities.
We will wait until Friday and then the war will be on lol.

Yeo! Like the dragonflies eat the mossies, so the bosses eat their workers hahaha

Cheers and thanks!

I hope they response and begin to do something against these bugs. It shouldn't be on you to fight them alone.

I went to police school with my boss - he won't eat me, because he knows I don't taste very well 😄 lol

Yeah, hopeis all that we have at this stage, but hear what I say, we will not stop until something gets done about it.

Ah! So then you and the boss must be good friends?
What happened forv him to become the boss? Further studies?

Cheers and thanks!

I think you are doing the right thing, but I do hope you get the help you need and deserve.

I wouldn't say friends, but very good colleagues.
He was not good at work, so he studied to become a big boss 😉 lol
I never wanted to make this step to become a big boss myself - I prefer to be a little boss and that my co-workers like me 😁

Thank you Hannes. I have to try as maybe not much time left for me. I feel like a sick dog today and when my wife called the doctor he gave permission for us to switch the times of the pills that I drink around.
Had maybe 4 hours of sleep, so tonight I will not hang around here late lol

Yeah, so many fly into the studies if they are not quite capable at the physical stuff.
Your way is always the best way and you have every reason to feel proud of yourself.
In my construction days as a foreman, I was known as the problem fixer and even qualified engineers came to ask me for advice at times. A piece of paper framed on a wall is certainly a great achievement, but on the practical side it can often become meaningless.

Cheers and thanks!

I hope it isn't as bad as it sounds, my friend. Do what you said - go to bed early and tomorrow morning everything will look much better 😁

Thank you so much and you are completely right, a certificate looks nice on the wall, but it's the practical work that counts.
I was only joking about my boss - he is an IT man and engineer and good in what he does now. He knows what he's talking about (most times ;) and I can rely on him (most times ;)
Your construction days work sounds like my father-in-law to whom also the engineers came to ask how some things would work best.

Yes, we've had some stress lately and the late nights have finally caught up to me.
I will have one of those body and mind homemade drinks a bit later and then jumo, or rather crawl into bed after a hot shower!

Lol, (most times).

Your father-in-law will tell you that there is no replacement for true experience Hannes.
I work, war and life!

Cheers and thanks!

Marvelous! I think that all hard working people of Hive should have a taste of victory while also engaging with others. I am sure we will be seeing many different names on top and I will always happily congratulate each and every one of them. Performance is possible for every person, it is just a matter of determination and commitment😊

Another one that slipped through my net.
Of course you are 100% correct my friend.
Determination and commitment has some cousins like perseverance and persistence.
Hard work is definitely the answer!

So many fail at this Lady Mary.
I used to employ large workforces and was always so amazed at those habituals that were regulary absent om Mondays after the weekend.

But those will always be with us, bemoaning their lot in life!

Amazing shots of the birds! An inspiration to me to be on the look out to capture those bird action shots!

I loved the couple of Loerie birds - look so sweet!

And of course the bird flying to the moon, combining my 2 favorite subjects!
T
hanks for sharing!

I think that Loerie couple looked so loving 🙂

Birds and the moon is difficult, but yeah, every now and then I strike a luck.

My pleasure to share!
