Something else on Christmas day.

I didn't show you this in my previous Christmas mountain post.
053.jpg

Marian and Troy at the back and we were on our way, to take Troy for his Christmas day walk in a public park.

This year we do not have the means to load our car with food parcels for the poor, but instead we took little Troy for his normal late afternoon Christmas walk.
I hope that you will enjoy the pictures.

Look at that lovely "V" shape at the back by the sun in the mountain valley.
078_li.jpg

I just had to get a closer shot of the "V"
082.jpg

And also a landscape to show you the beauty that surrounds us.
081.jpg

Sorry, I digress as I want to show you Troy's walk.
088.jpg

They start at the far end of the park and return to this old tree.
089.jpg

Then around the tree and back to the far end.
091.jpg

Finally here's a sky shot of the tree.
085.jpg

They do the walk twice, both fast and then slower.
Troy is now going for 17 years, as he turned 16 in November of this year. By the time that they get back to the car he is dead tired and sleeps in the car on the way back home. Normally at Christmas times we do a "Mercy Flight" meaning that we hand food parcels out to poor people that we find in the streets, but sadly not this year as Papillon's finances cannot allow it. We are a bit skint as they say. But we have eternal hope and next year we will try our best to continue with it.

We view Christmas day as a day of thanksgiving.

And That's All Friends!

Troy is fantastic for his age and deserves a sleep after the outing, we all start to feel that way. Considering in doggy years he is well over 100!

Was wonderful to read our youth went out on Day of Goodwill delivering parcels to the homeless early in the morning in Beach Road where many live in coastal bush.

Everyone is trying their best, sometimes we just not able, hopefully soon the coffers are full and feeding is an all year round responsibility.

Thank you Lady Joan and Troy says for me to tell you that he also loves you and your doggies.
He used to sleep in my shoe as a pup and now he is an old man and he has lost most of his tricks.
Except one. He will not go to sleep at night until I sing him a song while rubbing him.

Oh and he gets upset when I sing him a song that sounds similar to the one of the previous night.
So I have forever to change the tune and the words and I have to end all of the songs with the words "Time to sleep"

We gave ZAR40,000 to the feeding of poor children in the schools this year and this put a big dent in our finances. Last year we gave 30,000 and we had 10,000 left for food parcels and other things, but with the Covid it was worse this year.
Then there are also the funding of the other projects and yes, we are running on a very tight line.

Yes, I agree as we always have hope that things will get better.

Thank you kindly for the tipu and may you guys be blessed in the coming New Year.

Don't they just tickle you pink with the habits formed, Woody is really eager for a walk, we waiting for the holiday makers to leave before venturing down to the beach or park.

Cost of food is sky high really don't know how people are going to manage feeding schemes that have run for years. Donations help but as families find their loved ones needing assistance as well money dries up, this has been an exceptionally long haul with so many without work it is scary.

Shame, I feel for Woody and hopefully in a week or two things will return to normal.

Things are really bad out there my friend, so bad that some nights we struggle to sleep.
But there are also lessons to be learned and many here are starting to grow their own food.
It is now the middle class that is starting to suffer and that is very worrying. People of worth are also emigrating left right and center and the tax base is being eroded, simply meaning higher taxes for those that remain. I can go on and on but it will not help.

Woody has a garden which he will not use unless we go out with him, strange... Will get to the beach in a week or so, considering he never got out of his original garden except to escape I reckon he does pretty much OK, wait for inland travelers to leave.

We know so many who have already gone overseas to live, many waiting for borders to open or waiting on documentation to get going.

Perhaps money would still be in the hands of the country had better controls been put in place, also inviting overseas immigrants in to 'help build' is not a good idea, won't be crying about colonialism, when working under Chinese...

For his size the old man is tough, but now that you mention it, he doesn't run around in the house anymore and he spends most of the day sleeping.

We con him with the 2 pills that he has to take for his heart and his chest, as he absolutely will fight to the bitter end not to take them. So we buy round strips of dried wors, cut two pieces off, stick the pills into the soft middle and Marian offers it in her open hand. Before you know it, both pieces and the pills are in his stomach.

Great to hear that your youth are also doing their thing on Christmas day.
This is the first year since 2002 that we missed, but such is life.

Yes, I agree as we always have hope. Just a pity that we cannot afford a fundraiser.
But one never knows what the future holds.

We used same trick with the dogs and tablets over the years, they don't like their daily dose unless disguised.

Youth set out with loaded bakkie on day of Goodwill early morning to get to the homeless, sad how many now live in the bush, sadder many are now drug addicts or alcoholics which was not evident a couple of years ago.

Hahaha, yes, we can certainly outsmart them, but Troy has learned the habit to chew carefully if he suspects a tablet inside and then he politely spits the tablet out.
This is his way of getting another piece.

Don't talk as we also have them laying around in the parks legless. Ether alcohol or drugs.
I think that it's the same all over the country.

If they taking a plate of food is crush the tablet into the food to hijack, but boerewors sticks does the trick most times in between.

Nope not Troy, he has a very fine sense of smell and he simply won't eat the food.
That's why we keep the wors pieces small with the pill stuck right into the soft center and squished closed. One bite and it its gone down.

Cheese another trick my dogs fell for, until they don't!

Hahaha, yes, Troy also love cheese, but the vet said no go. Brown rice and carrots only.
You will be totally surprised how well that works in dogs. A light touch of meat gravy over it, for the smell you know and soon the bowl is empty.

Home cooked is the only thing my dogs have known, never food out of a tin except when caught short maybe sardines or bully beef. Other than that mainly chicken, brown rice and fresh vegetables whatever is available except a few that don't agree with a dogs digestion.

We also fed Troy with whatever we had to eat, but he developed a thing where he could not stop scratching himself. At first we thought that it was maybe fleas or ticks that he picked up in the grass, but even after we bathed him more than usual, bought expensive anti flea shampoos and such, he simply continued to scratch.

We took him to one vet and she sold us tablets that would make his blood anti flea proof
and still he kept on scratching completely.

To cut a long story short, we heard about another vet and took him there. I thought that his advice was ridiculous as how could meals of brown and grated carrots possibly stop a dog scratching?
But I was made a fool as it was the best advice and since then Troy has stopped scratching.

I have fed brown rice, carrots almost a staple, with leafy vegetables like spinach, some apple cider vinegar and variety of meats over the years for all the dogs I have had, now Woody is number 7.

Sometimes it is the most basic change that leads to the biggest results, as with life 😆

Well yes, then you know all about the healing properties for dogs with simple foods.
I have also had a few big dogs in my life, but none was as finicky as our little guy. But then again he has lasted longer than any of my other dogs.

You can certainly say that again and I wasted 18 years of my life before I made the correct basic change.

Small breed dogs always live longer which is upsetting when you enjoy the large breed dogs.

Life is in constant flux sometimes we do ourselves a huge favour taking a different path.

Troy is my first small dog and he was given to us by my sister, as she rescued him from a family that almost destroyed him as a pup. He was so cute as a little pup that we just fell in love with him and we are glad that he is lasting so long, as he has become a part of our little family.

Different path is always the best path methinks.

My brother and his wife always take small rescue dogs that have made good ages, Snoopy looks like Troy and was a character that barked when the phone rang, old Telkom phones when they worked....

Noted: "Different path is always the best path methinks."

Hahaha, so the phone was some kind of trigger that set him off.
My mouth organ is rusting as I cannot play it anymore, when I drop down to sharper notes Troy starts howling.

Troy is such an old boy and still loves to walk in the park. We should take him as example for when we are in his age, if ever we should get that old.

Let's hope that 2022 will be a better year and that it will bring you all the help you need and deserve.

We have to keep him healthy as best we can and he also has to take two pills every day. One for his chest and 1 for his heart. But he is the love of our life and we hope that he will get older than Methuselah 🤣

Thank you kindly and all that we can do is hope and pray. There will come a time that I cannot do it anymore, but as you know I am trying to secure the future for the projects to keep on running.
Let's see what happens.

Cheers and thanks.

We try always Hannes, both with Troy and our work.
I do not like to run the same projects over and over and as soon as the attendances drop, then I know that the project has served it's purpose. Then we simply launch a new project.

I now have apart from the recently launched coding project, also some other new ones on the waiting list. So I am sure that we will continue, although I don't know how yet.
Our God will guide as usual, as I feel that our current situation is only a test to see if we will give up.
You know what I will say here 🤣

Cheers and thanks.
