Strange stories are wafting around.

We heard from several sources that army tents were being set up on a farm, as the soldiers will protect the farms during tomorrow's riots.
019.jpg

And so we went to the farm on an investigation trip.

I was in the army in the Cape during the years of 1971-72 and I can certainly tell what an army tent looks like.

The sights here looked very structured (army style) and I started snooping around with my camera from a distance. In the back of my mind was the thought that if I get caught taking pictures of the camp, they will think that I was some kind of spy. One never knows and I am too old to go and sit in an overcrowded concrete cell.
Any case, something else was on the brew here and I just had to find out what was going on.
So come and join me in the investigation.

Very suspicious don't you think? Why was there no sign of life in the camp and where were the armed army guards? Also no army trucks or any other scenes of army activities?
Would they bring the troops in overnight, out of the public sight?
And the Jeeps and Bedford trucks, surely, they are going to make a big noise if they were to arrive during the quiet of night?
Will it be a brigade or a platoon of soldiers coming in?
In the case of contact, will they use live ammunition?
So many questions milled through my mind.

This is where I was hiding with my camera and 6+6=32 in this case? Besides, that white truck was no army truck as army trucks all have green army colors.

Then we drove around to the entrance of the farm, and I asked the security officer at the access point what the army tents were all about.
Surprise, surprise, as the tent camp was being erected for Stage 5 of the Absa Cape Epic cycle race that will take place on the Lourensford Wine estate.
So, the tents are for the racers to sleep in overnight and also to have a bit of rest.

This popular race is held every year and athletes come from far and wide to enter the mountain bike race.

Here below you can read all about this year's Absa Cape Epic Race.

The 2023 Absa Cape Epic will take in 658 gruelling kilometres, with 15 775 metres of limit-testing climbing through its 8 days of racing that are unlike any edition before it; the 2023 Absa Cape Epic promises to stretch every team almost to their breaking point, to trial partnerships both old and new, and to reward those resolute enough to overcome its demands with spots in The Book of Legend.

8 days. 658 kilometres. 15 775 metres of climbing. These are the stats of the 2023 Absa Cape Epic alone. But as history has proven over the past 18 editions of The Untamed African Mountain Bike Race, statistics and what happens on the trails of Africa are never one and the same.

The penultimate stage of the 2023 race marks a historic day for the Absa Cape Epic. The entire 82-kilometre route takes place within the grounds of one single estate – Lourensford Wine Estate, one of the largest and most singletrack-laden properties in South Africa. Lourensford Wine Estate plays host to the race for two nights and is sure to offer a display of mountain biking bliss for teams and fans alike before Stage 7, The Trail to Val de Vie, begins.

So there you have it! All a totally innocent affair and no need for me to hide at all. It is so amazing how one can get trapped in FUD and only a glance at Twitter and some other social media sites can show one how much FUD gets spread around about crypto. BTC seems to be the main target for the powers to be.
So, the next time that you hear, or read something, the first question to ask yourself is this! Is it the truth?
Many will believe it and pass it on only to be made fools later on, when the real truth emerges. Simply because they are too lazy to research the issues.

BELIEVE ONLY HALF OF WHAT YOU SEE AND NOTHING YOU HEAR - Question everything, especially rumors. The proverb has been traced back to 'Proverbs of Alfred' (c. 1300).

Having had the Epic in the village, and knowing it's now, I suspected that was the case and you confirmed it as I read on. Youngsters from the village are riding.

You have very good instinctive skills Lady Fiona and it was a big surprise to me with the discovery of the truth. I don't want to be one of those riders today, as we had some heavy rain, and it must be muddy all over the Lourensford track. Amazing how big the farm is, as the bikers trail is 82km long.

Ahh..a much better use for the tents! It is amazing how fast rumors can morph into something so far from the truth.

Oy Vay, I am scared to even think about that. Maybe and a big maybe, only 1%

Nothing like the early 70s, as we had the yearly fitness challenges and our biggest achievement at 1SAI was to beat the Parabats in the fitness challenge.
Years later I wanted to show my wife around the camp, but as we arrived at the main gate a plumpy guy with his shirt sticking out came to open the gate. I turned around right there and we left.

You are so correct on the FUD and rumors. One of the reasons I hardly ever use Fakebook or Twatter anymore.

A lie gets around very quickly with truth catching up, spying on tents had me laughing here, with everyone on edge almost permanently, innocent activities carry on....

One of the big events, what a lovely spot to camp out the night before! OK not sure about cycling around the farm, would be lost in the scenery, or in the cellar !LOLZ

Oh yeah, lies grow wings nowadays. I felt like a real duh when I discovered the truth !LOLZ

The birds regard that wide field where the tents were pitched as their own bird haven. So they will be a bit annoyed when a big troop of guys arrive on iron horses.
They gave me some annoyed looks at my approach.

Knowing you I bet that the cellar would be the best place to find you.

Hahaha, yes we all have our habits well ingrained by now !LOLZ

Yep, and many bikes around soon for the birds to take their revenge on. Noone likes to clean poop off his prized possession!

Got to see some of the cyclists completing the run from Hermanus, very popular race.

Birds will have their space back soon enough... No need to be mean, they do tend to whitewash everything!

Yep, the scenery is stunning in that stage. I think it is stage 3 and they will be here soon.

Hahaha, I wonder what the birds have to say to each other about mankind's continued invasions of their space !LOLZ
The whitewash is a real clue about their thoughts.

They do indeed. Yes, I am sure that the cyclists are going to be amazed.

Went out to Paarl this morning and thankfully the rain stopped for the day. Starts again at 5am in tomorrow for the whole day.

Had 10ml Thursday night, lots of electricity across the sky! Hopeful it will start cooling off soon, still hot and humid.

Ah! So you had some rain and I am happy for you guys.
The north-easter wind was driving the rain clouds at speed inland today, and our rainwater catchment areas are also in that direction, so I hope that the dam levels will increase.
