The antics of a squirrel couple and their teenager.

I got the three of them in some big maple trees near a pond and they were searching for their Sunday lunch.
055.jpg

Some people see them as pests, but squirrels have planted more trees, than mankind ever could.

We love to see the squirrels in action, and they are some of nature's planters that are of great benefit to us all. Trees are known to absorb Carbon dioxide and other toxic gasses and they release oxygen into the air.
The gardeners however don't like squirrels because they can really wreck a garden, not even to talk about what they can do to vegetable and other plantings. But we believe that squirrels also have their duty in nature and to kill them all would be a catastrophe to human health.
So, come and see this little family in action.

I think that this one is the mom, as she picks the seeds up from the ground and then pops up into the tree to eat them.
048.JPG

Amazing how they can use their back legs as anchors to hang upside down.
085.JPG

Eating the seeds must be thirsty work and she popped out of the tree.
136.JPG

To have a drink at the pond :)
137.JPG

And now let's have a look at the dad.

Yep! He is a very athletic fellow.
118.JPG

No guy worth his salt would pick up seeds from the ground and this guy is a berry lover.
131.JPG

He is also able to do the splits if it's required.
130.JPG

So, how cute is this?
121.JPG

And finally, I could only get two shots of the camera-shy teenager.

I don't know if it's he, or she, but it peeped at me below the tree,
092.JPG

One last inquisitive look and then it was gone.
093.JPG

Finally, here below is the evidence and we did not plant this.
My wife brought some of the maple seeds home for the wild squirrels that visit our garden, and now we have a maple tree growing in the garden.
029.JPG

I don't blame the squirrels for forgetting where they planted the seed, but I will have to ask them to do their planting a bit further away from the wall, as the roots of the tree can damage the wall. So, I will have to take it out and give it to my wife's aunt to grow, as they have a huge garden.
We have the motto to live and to let live, and all that it takes is a bit of management to sync our lives with the "invaders" of nature. They all serve a purpose in the eco-system and far be it from us to disrupt anything in nature, as without nature, mankind cannot survive.

I hope that you have enjoyed the story and the pictures.

I can't agree more. I have never seen squirrels in our place, but I've always dreamt of seeing them. They look really cute and yah, they have duty in nature which only idiots don't even think about it. I'd love to feed if they were in my place or garden. Bless your good hearts towards these animals 😍

All life on earth has a duty in nature in order to keep the eco-system fully operational and mankind is the worse destructor.
Cute indeed and we are blessed to have them.

The photos that you show here are very cool. Rarely can you see the activities of these agile squirrels as close as you can get.
People think they're pests? That's too much in my opinion; they only take what they need; it won't make someone poor with the amount they take, right?

Slow natural movement does not scare them and I am glad that you liked the photos.
Sad yes and some deliberately run them over in the streets and although they can't make anyone poor, they can upset people's gardens.

in my place, squirrels have become pests for farmers, because they often eat sweet fruits, such as coconut, mango, langsat, and other fruits

Yep! You have said this before, and I suppose that the farmers also think that the birds are pests.
The wildlife was there long before the farmers.

Animals often have better manners than humans! My goats don't pick up off the ground either. It's a pity that people in general don't understand animals. Many are thought to be pests (and disposed of). We have a local farmer that poisons bees. It's disgusting! He obviously doesn't have a cooking clue

Oh yes, they do indeed, and their "litter" (poop) is eaten by other insects, instead of being washed into the ocean. I agree and many harmless "pests" disappear from the eco-system. I would anonymously report that farmer to Cape Nature so that they can sort him out.
