The famous Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden.

This lovely garden is on a farm in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.

The sculptures of Dylan Lewis are legendary and I will show you a few here today.

I have posted about the farm last year and this was our latest visit, as new sculptures appear all of the time.
It is a very scenic trip on the road to the farm and you see some sights of our travel in this post HERE
I visited the garden with my wife and come to take a walk through the garden with us.

Here below is a closer look at the sculpture above.

The wilderness within.
Located between two worlds, one wild and one tamed, the Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden borders the manicured suburbs of Stellenbosch and a rugged mountain wilderness where leopard still roam.
In this garden of private myth, the artist explores the Jungian notion of ‘the wilderness within’. More than 60 sculptures constituting a comprehensive record of his artistic development thus far have been carefully sited along 4 km of paths.

Finally, I just had to take another photo of my favorite African sculpture below.

Now here is another surprise.

In the next post I will take you right into the artist's old studio and I will show you some amazing sculptures in progress.
I can only imagine what they will look like when they are finished.
Here below is a teaser.

This is the studio and by luck it was open, so I got permission to take photographs.

And we were in! Many works in here to show you in another post.

Oh yes, there are many other sculptures as this is the guy's life work and the place draws busloads of visitors from many countries.
I must say that the artist has an interesting view about the troubles that we are all fighting with inside ourselves. I am also continually battling with right and wrong, light and darkness within myself and it is a matter of making the correct choices. I am sure that we all face the primitive struggles between right and wrong within.
But such is life.

Note: Should you ever visit South Africa, put this garden in the Western Cape Province on your bucket list.

OOOH these are cool. I think I have to add them to my map. With a little luck, I go to South Africa later this year .. to totally needed to check if I can make that happen. Thank you for sharing the location.

Do you know if this garden is closed at night? I love night photography as you know. If I can I would try to still take shots after sunset.

Wow, such dynamic sculptures! So you're saying the artist is still active, creating new pieces continuously? Very impressive. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see his studio in your next post.

Thank you and yes, the artist is indeed still alive and just a pity that we haven't had a chance to meet him yet. I always make a point of meeting the artists whose work I post, so I am sure that we will meet him in the future. He is certainly one of our top talents.

Indeed, he seems quite talented. And being local (for you, I guess) I'm sure you'll get to meet him and hang out together sometime.
