The Paradoxes in life!

423.JPG

What is this you may say? A mirror in nature for ladies to do their make up? Nope! Not! 🤣

A paradox here, as it is a traffic mirror mounted at an entrance to show drivers oncoming traffic.
Right, but why is the mirror showing us the traffic behind our car and not the oncoming traffic over the one lane narrow bridge?
Let me explain!

422 2_LI.jpg

Our car was stopped just before the inserted stop sign, as the arrow at the right shows the direction of cars approaching the single car bridge.
The traffic mirror in the yellow circle showing the area behind our car?
So What's the answer here do you think?

426.JPG

Here's a closer look at the road and the gate behind us, as we were waiting to cross the bridge in front of us!

433.JPG

It is indeed a most beautiful oak tree lined road once we had crossed the bridge!

358.JPG

This photo above shows us comfort of the slow, very old ways in the building and the comfort of our modern lives in the speed of the Harley Davidson motorbike!

342.JPG

One of the reasons why we visited this farm, to see the clouds washing over the mountains.
I made a video of this and will show you in another mountain post!

Here is the answer below to the mirror paradox!

422 3_LI.jpg

The new drawing below the yellow circle shows the direction of cars from a hidden entrance gate at the left of the road and they use the mirror to check for cars coming from the right and traveling in the same direction than we were!
Paradox solved! 🤣

Please no comments on my master drawing skills here 🤣

Us human beings are funny aren't we?
We will watch our bank balances with a beady eye, inspecting every finer detail in the balance sheets, but as we were parked next to the road here I watched the cars coming past and not one stopped to look at this mirror.
Everyone seemed to be in a headlong rush while we stopped to take photos of the mirror!

This is how we miss the small things in life that serve to make our existence complete, but sadly we strive with all of our might to gather funds, or we concentrate on other aspects of life such as importance, fame, acceptance, or whatever instead of living our lives to the full. Instead of just being.
I am not saying that money doesn't play a role in our lives, bur rather that we place too much importance on it, or other things and subsequently we are missing out.

Whatever it may be, this is only my way of looking at life!

And That Is All Friends!

I leave you with this!

Oh this would be good for the ladies too, to check how they look. Can't wait to see the cloud video!

You're right that too many people obsess about money. They shouldn't, they are definetely not the most important thing in life.

Hahaha, the ladies will have to stand on stilts to work in that mirror my friend.

I suppose that it is all of the mad rushing about that influenced my writ today lol.

Thank you for the visit.

And as it looks, it might magnify stuff. Ladies never like that 😂

For sure? Are you meaning that they don't like the magnification of their faces because it may show up some age lines or other things?
I like wrinkles as it displays character, but I think women try to hide them as they want to look young hahaha.

I thought about their head looking big as a balloon, but I approve the wrinkle statement too lol😂

Wrinkles are part of the process. I think that we should focus on the soul, our body is just the shelter of our character, where true beauty really is

0

avatar

Thank you for explaining your thoughts my friend.

Yes, you are totally correct as so many faces hide corrupt souls, but they are always revealed aren't they?
True beauty indeed rests in the soul and if only the world's tuition about the importance of looks were focused inwards instead of outwards.
Every woman has natural beauty, but so many suppress their inner beauty and I can understand that as it is a fear of being hurt. Self preservation is essential because there's a wolf around every corner lol.

The truth always gets revealed at one point. People can't fake for long and hide what they trully are. And that's a good thing.

0

Oh yes and it always is so ugly whenever it gets exposed.
The naked truth does not cut corners and it usually leaves destruction in it's wake.

I prefer a nasty truth rather than a pretty lie everytime

0

Cannot agree more, but when they say that the truth hurts, I see it so many times in our charity work. No one likes the truth about their own hidden lies that they have kept covered for a long time. But all of a sudden and unexpectedly the truth was revealed creating much drama for the person. Real tears of sorrow when they tell me about it.

Truth can often be uncomfortable to hear, but living a life in denial is just a waste of potential. It takes a lot of character and self awareness to be able to handle constructive criticism and truth. Too many close their minds in front of what they don't understand. It's a pity to lose the ability to always wonder and embrace change or the fact you might have been wrong.

Skeletons in ones cupboard is what they call it Lady Mary.
Always bedlam when one falls out in the full view of all and the others remain to continue poisoning one's thoughts and manners.
I like your take on denial and it is denial that have placed those skeletons inside the cupboard.

The thing is to have a look at one's mental cupboard and to ask if it is open and empty, or kept closed and locked, as it will always influence how one handles criticisms and attacks.
An open mind will always embrace change in my view!

0
0
0.000
avatar

What a beautiful metaphor. The mental cupboard has to be checked and clean-up and understanding is necessary. A lot of the times people hang onto their ideas, although they are wrong, just to rub it off in face of the other. I think our mental cupboards have the issue of ego rust lurking every time. I think that our ego stands in the way of our happiness most of the times.

0
0
0.000
avatar

And there is that magic word that destroys at will Lady Mary. "Ego".
There can be no understanding if the mental cupboard is full, as it also blocks the ears.
People like to talk from that full cupboard, but they are not listeners and so there's no space for new information.
Driven by ego, life often becomes very difficult.
In my eyes, a simple life with a clean conscience is better than pure gold!

0

You are so right! I strive to learn how to tame my ego. It is a daily lifelong process. And it's worth it.

0

avatar

My trick is to think less of myself Lady Mary.
Always striving to be right in what I say, shows no respect for the opinions of others.
You are correct, as it is indeed a lifelong process. And it is so worth it.
People speak to an open person, but an egoist will always draw other egoists.

Hope that you will have a good weekend!

Mirrors on narrow roads we noticed when traveling in Europe many years ago, years later saw they started popping up over here, very useful if used, but then South African drivers don't notice details on the road!

We have a yield sign on a robot intersection (not many in the country I believe), very few are aware and stop for a red robot, whereas in fact it is perfectly legal with no on-coming traffic to slip through.

Bit high for a lady to powder her nose, most probably used by random flasher 😁

0

Why bother with mirrors and road signs if one can simply buy a drivers license Lady Joan?
I am not saying that every driver has bought their licenses, but it's a known fact that much skullduggery is going on with the licenses.

I wish that would put yield signs on the pedestrian robots here, as often kids walk past the robots and they push the stop button for fun. Why waste petrol and stop at a red pedestrian robot if there is no one crossing?

Hahaha, that flasher would have to be on stilts lol.

Blessings!

Are you talking to me in your sleep here hahahaha

Yes, we have a few of those mirrors here, but I don't know who uses them lol.
I did think about you when I took the shots of the Harley lol.

Patience is a good thing my friend and the video will come as promised.

As we have very narrow roads and corners here sometimes, it is very important that there are these mirrors.

I hope you don't dream from me, my friend, that would be a bit over the top ;)

Good that your patience has started my friend.

Yeah, those mirrors can be life savers if people really use them. Over here people stop briefly, take a quick look to the right for a gap and then race off. regardless of an oncoming car that wants to turn right from the left hand side.

Hahaha, thankfully like you I don't dream else I would have nightmares about a certain mountain goat hahaha

Cheers and thanks!

Some people joke here and they say that Patience is still a virgin Hannes lol.

Oh man, taking a minibus taxi here is a hair raising experience. No respect for road rules, skipping red traffic lights, driving on sidewalks, forcing their way to the front of queues, stopping anywhere and on and an it goes lol.

The sad thing is that there are many accidents here and so many passengers are hurt, or even killed in the event of a crash.

Cheers and thanks!

Is she? nice 😁

Should I ever go to South Africa I know that I will never use a taxi, that's for sure.
Seriously, when everybody knows about that Problem, why don't they do anything against it. Probably because nobody cares.

Cheers and !BEER

0

No idea hahaha.

We also have tourist calling cabs and also Uber which are used daily by visitors.

The taxis were started as a self regulated industry with no government involvement. It mushroomed overnight and many unemployed guys got themselves a minibus and they established some independent ruling associations. Now there are thousands of these minibuses running around in every town and city in the country and there's nothing that the government can do about it.

If they get unhappy about many fines or other issues, they simply block the main highways with many parked taxies and nobody can get to work. So they are best to be left alone doing what they do by ferrying people.
Besides, it's a good employment creator and we desperately need every job that we can find.

Cheers and thanks!

0
0
0.000
avatar

Okay, that sounds better, but I have to remember to never take such a mini bus 😉
For employment it's good, as you say, and if they are unstoppable you can't do anything anyway except trying to not get in their way.

Cheers and !BEER

My step daughter travelled in one of those minibuses for 3 years while she worked as waitress to save up for a scooter. Once she had the scooter she completed her 7 years at the university and she qualified as a psychiatrist.
She even wanted to give me the money back that I paid for her registration at the university, but I refused.

So the minibus taxis run an essential service, but not many motorists like them lol.

Cheers and thanks!

It is certainly a love, hate relationship when one needs them Hannes.
But I heard that they are giving the drivers some training, so let's hope that they will care better for their passengers.

Cheers and thanks!

Cheers and !BEER

It should be my friend, but the transport of the people enjoyed priority.
Now it has grown so big that it is going to be a mammoth task.
If people are in training they cannot earn a salary, but of course a plan can always be made to train unemployed guys as trainers and then to place them in the taxis to do training with the drivers on the job.
Maybe something will come up in the future and in honesty I don't know too much about their inner workings, but I can only comment on what I have seen.

Cheers and thanks!

Sorry to hear that my wife has trouble sleeping and i know how that affects her at times so I do feel for you

Were all good had a great day with the grandkids

and had the room walls finished downstairs today so now I need to get sanding cleaning and painting to setup my wife studio/music room down there

0

avatar

Somehow my body produces too much phlegm and it interferes with my breathing when I sleep. So, I wake up all hours in a sweat and struggling to breathe.

Yeah, I saw that you spent the day with the kids and it's always a good thing.

I know that it is hard work, but the fish is always such a great feeling.
Studio/music room? So where's the photographic room?

Blessings!

Ohh that must be such a pain messing up your sleep

I do have a corner chosen in the basement for a little photo studio, wella table and some lights, but that's in an open area,
the new room is going to be a mix of her music room and a overflow pantry, that we just had walls put in for, today I will be cleaning and sanding getting it ready for painting ;)

0

Yeah, two hours sleeping and an hour awake and so on through the night.

Photo studio I know, wella table I don't?
In an open area, do you mean outside, or in an open area of the house?

It sounds like you guys are fixing up that house in a great way to suit your likes and that's always a great thing to do. All of the big things first and then with time all of the smaller things.
Preparing is of course a very essential part of painting and it sounds like you know what you are doing lol.
Hope that when it's done that it will be perfect!

That sleep pattern has to drive you nuts take care my friend

and i am going to setup a table in one area of the basement, and have some lights setup on it, so I can do photos of things down there, more so in winter when I am not getting out walking much, will be somewhere i can play with macros, water drops and other kind of things I am not sure what exactly but will work it out, not a photo studio as such, I am not sure I want to get into portrait photography , I am not that good at dealing with people lOL

Yes the big things first, some work in the basement, putting some concrete in the backyard for a seating area and such ( depending how expensive it is the first quote was way higher than we hoped for lOL), and slowly we will work at the small things we have plenty of time

0
0
0.000
avatar

Oh, it certainly does my friend, but life goes on.

I didn't mean a people studio, but rather exactly what you mentioned here, as a place where you can play with inventions. Good that it is in the basement, as then you can also maybe do some special lighting efforts.

We buy "ready mix" concrete here and I prepare the areas and do the concrete myself, as it works out much cheaper that what the contractors charge. Only material cost and no labor cost and if you don't know how to do it, there is ample information on Google and even here on hive, as you can put your projects in the @diyhub channel to get some good votes and advice on it!

Blessings!

We had some cousins of our daughter in law come by today will see what they quote, if not I may well have to do some DIT research and learn how to do it myself

0

avatar

Good news, but let me tell you that it is always better if you do it yourself, as if you send me the size of the seating area, I can work out the materials and send you the details on how to do it.
You will only have to work out the costing factors of the materials as I don't know what your prices are over there.

0

Thanks if we decide to go that way I may pick your brains, its a real big area we are doing, will take a whole truck load of cement, so time will tell which way we go

0

You are welcome to JJ, but if it's a full truckload then it sounds like you will need some sheets of mesh steel to be placed first to reinforce the cement. You will also have to insert expansion joints if it's a large space.

Blessings.

We got a good quote fromthe cousins, plus i will be providing manual labor helping so its a good deal I am sure there not charging much over cost and they know what there doing, so next weekend they start with the framework and the next weekend the cementing :)

Great news JJ and I hope that their price falls within your budget.
Just remember that the prep stage is the most important, but I am sure that you know this.

Ohh yes its within our budget, they are coming this coming weekend to put in the frame work, and the next weekend the concrete will be poured, will be great to have it done

We don't want you to damage any muscles or ligaments hahaha.

Now this really sounds like a winner JJ and you guys must be very happy with that price. I am glad that things worked out this way.

Soon you will have a great spot outside to sit and enjoy. Maybe while the going is good, also build one of those bag and fancy brisk fireplaces to entertain visitors with a great barbecue?
They have building plans of them available on Google and it's not a big job!

0

They were here today and adjusted plans and planned dit all out, work will be done over the next three weekends so we are looking forward to it

I have pondered a barbeque/brick over pizza thingy, but for now we have a good BarBQue that is in good shape, my wife would love a gazebo at some stage but that may well have to wait

👍🙂👍

Great as planning the job is so essential JJ.
You guys will certainly enjoy the adventure lol.

So, you already have a good BarBque and a Gazebo is also a great idea. The guys here do thatched grass roof gazebos in a large circular fashion. Then they build a circular ring of benches below the roof with a round wood fire frame in the center of the floor for the cool nights. On the hot days they put their potable BarBQue's inside the central fire ring.

Just finished raising one of the doors out of the house with One of the family who is an amazing carpeenter which is phase one of the new concrete walkway and pad, Saturday they will come and do the framing for the large area, the next Saturday lay concrete there and frame the walkway which will be poured the following weekend

I love the sound of those gazebos, you have given me some ideas

Some questions here JJ?
What is the size measurements of the area that you want concreter?
Will plastic sheeting be laid on the ground surface before they pour the concrete?
Else the raw ground drain the water out of the concrete before it's set.

Will expansion joints be used?

Yeah those Gazebos look great and I will find a photo here for you!
You can do your own thing of course, as it was just an idea. Four or six wooden poles and a thatch wooden frame at the top shouldn't cost much.

Blessings!

Let me see there is the path, which goes around the edge of the house, that's about 5ft wide and maybe 25 feet long, then there the biq square area that is 32 feet long and i think 14 feet widw

I think they mentioned laying down sheets, I can confirm when they come to do the framing on Saturday, but yes they are putting extension joints ,

I do wonder if they have people here that do thatch roofs, I will do some research

Good and it is good when you take your time, as the new concrete floor will be settled by then.

Don't forget to take ask the guys if you should take a hosepipe a day after the casting of the concrete to wet the floor thoroughly. It helps over here to result in a harder setting and it prevents cracking.

That’s Using the microphone and it recognizes what you’re saying and save you typing such as I’m doing now and it’s doing pretty good this was all done with the microphone cheers

Wow and it looks pretty smart JJ.
I presume that there are free apps that do the voiceovers?
But I will have a look in any case.

On my iPhone and I think I’m most android phones these days when you have the keyboard come up they have a little icon for a microphone you just click that and talk away pretty much like I am now

Right and we have just tried it on the phone and it works like a bomb on voice and the keyboard.
But it does not appear on my PC here hahaha.

Ohh no it’s not on my PC either I use the keyboard on that
I just find the voice so handy on the phone when like now I’m sitting outside in the sun and catching up on comments

Lucky guy, we face great risk with the stuff that we put on our phones over here. Although I have put the new Tsu on it, I have not activated it yet. The syndicates are sim swapping here and anything on the phone can disappear in an instant.

I am not that impressed about the new TSU I have used it but I don’t think I will use it much

Sorry to hear the hassles with your phones there

Yes, my thought was that I would rather wait for a PC app, but instead there are a lot of moans about TSU on the Tsu veterans site and it doesn't look like a PC app is in the pipeline.
But one never knows.

Yeah, one has to be very careful here, as corruption is rife my friend.

I was cross postign my posts on TSU but i don't think I will bother anymore, I think there just trying to milk the name TSU is all

Oh? So one can cross post from Hive into Tsu?
I didn't know that and I saw that Alex Biondo was made co-chairman hahaha.
Some people are receiving payouts, but the majority are moaning.

Well no not cross Post I just take one photo from my post and post it on on there or you stay I think I’m giving that up I think it’s really come down to who you know and what you know on there

Isn't it the same all over JJ?
I mean who you know and in many cases not even what you know, except insider information.
So sad, but in life there are always little cliques that keep others on the sidelines.

Many times I have thanked God that I am a loner. I walk my own way and do things my own way.
Thankfully there are also other loners and we run into each other from time to time with mutual respect.

Ohh yes your so right that applies ot so many things and I think its even worse these days than it used to be

I enjoy the [people i have met on here including you so I put my time i have into being somewhat active on here ;)

I like you are a loner, not a people person really, but LUlu makes up for that in our relationship she is a people persona nd a real chatter loL

Agreed with everything that you said here JJ.
The good thing is that when loners gather they never form a clique as everyone is used to doing things in their own ways.

"Somewhat active" is a very modest description my friend, as you are an excellent communicator.
Oh yeah, I enjoy you too hahaha.

We had a similar situation in the past, but Marian has ever so slowly started to withdraw and now she is also doing her own thing.

WOW my typing on that last comment was terrible must have been on my phone LOL

The last two days I only replied to a few comments so for me that's hardly active,

LUlu is trying to slow herself down and think about social distancing she was so paranoid at the start almost to paranoid, then got a bit loose with it, now she is getting more serious about it

Not to worry as I know how to read it Lol.

I have also less replies, but I think that when the Hive price falls, the activities fall with it lol.

That's women for you mate, some days they run around with no masks and on other days they wear two masks hahaha.

Ohh yes thats true when the price drops so does activity that's always the case

Yeah and luckily that's when I just continue going JJ.
There' always a chance that someone can stumble onto my posts when there are not the usual wide variety available, but even if not, I just continue.
It has always helped me in the past!

Me to I will admit i have no idea what price it is at now I so very rarely look at it, I just carry on as normal, which for me at the moment is sporadic lOL

I click on the PeakD wallet everyday to claim my income as I don't like it to accumulate in case a scammer hits my account. At the right hand side of the wallet is the HP price and below that the HBD price, so it's easy to see.

Sporadic as you have many other things to do I presume?

0

Ohh yeah I forgot it was there and more sporadic because I aren’t planning on cashing out as of yet so I focus on posts and comments not the value

Yeah, but don't leave big amounts lying in there, rather claim them.
Less temptation for skunks!

Rather save than sorry JJ.

I am not talking about the HP, as mine is also left to build up JJ.
The daily income that one "claims" is what I am talking about.
Some people only claim it once a week and I claim it every day.

Ohh yes I know what you mean now I do the same
Duh I must have been having a brain fade

It is those brain fades that are also pestering me lately JJ.
I have the camera bag and my car keys in the the one hand and with the other hand I am searching for the car keys 🤣

That happens to all of us I have done the same more than once

Yeah and it's debilitating to discover one bright and sunny morning that one is getting old lol.
Then the longing for the days of youth starts for a long time.
Some guys run out to buy sports cards to recapture their youth, but always the finality creeps in.

True but at least dying my hair is cheaper than a sports car lol
Speaking of cars Lulu wants a mini but she doesn’t have a license so I don’t think that will come to be

0

But then again, you can teach her how to drive and she can apply for a license JJ?
It would look so cool if you guys have a yellow mini and you have a yellow streak in your hair lol.

Yeah I know thats an option and i have offered that if she studies and passes the written test, I think she will do it but then the problem will be the huge jump in our insurance but lets deal with that if it comes to be

0

Yeah, cross the bridges when you come to them JJ.
First things first , so let's hope that she agree to study and that she passes the test.
Who knows, by the time that she is ready, Hive may have bloomed or you guys may have received a windfall from somewhere else.

Yes, we certainly hope so, but as with your new house you can remember the time months before your retirement when we spoke about it? You were still undecided and look now, as it all has worked itself out.

Yeah, it's getting late my friend.

A good and blessed night to you guys also in advance lol.

Glad that she likes it and I am sure that you will get the painting done in time JJ.
The sooner that you do it, the better as then the paint can dry out properly before you put the table in.
I am not rushing you, as I am sure that you know this 🙂

Good evening from here JJ,

One of those eventful days again today and just came out of a committee meeting now.
But at least I got a half hour in at the sea with some amazing events, will post it tomorrow in #wednesdaywalk

Great that you are taking care of your lungs my friend, as it is vitally important.
Lulu has an amp? Guitar?

Sorry took me almost a day to get to reply, I hope the meeting went well.

Lulus amp is a Karaoke matching, she using it for singing, it dos have inputs for guitars but neither of us can play one LOL

Ah, okay, so both of you are Karaoke singers ?
Meeting went well and we just now scored a washer/dryer machine for them in a very good condition.
Would have liked to keep it, but they need it more than us.

No need for a sorry lol.

Ohh nop Just Lulu, she is a good singer, and did a few songs at events in Milford a few years back before she got ill, so its great she is getting back into singing again and hence why setting up her studio was important for us, in about a month we are going back to CT for one evening to a recording studio where she is going to record a few songs.

as for me, I cant sing at all, I am terrible so just move my lips like I am singing but don't actually sing when I do it has been known to make people laugh LOL

0

Oh man! I thought that we were going to hear the blue lizard singing the blues lol.
It will be great to hear Lulu's recorded songs and she might be a great new talent in hiding.
I remember how Susan Boyle was discovered and you might be married to millions I hope JJ.

It is the opposite situation with us, Marian is the lip singer and I am the Kris Kristofferson lol.

I could probably get paid to sing, at closing time ina Pub so that everyone would leave lOL

for sure I will share with you the sogs she records :)

LOL that's a dream of hers and mine of course, you never know I may become a kept man of a famous singer lOL

So that's something we do not have in common then

0

avatar

Hahaha, okay and as a further incentive for them to leave, they can use my picture lol.
Thank you and I hope that the recording session goes well.

Hahaha, what a cool dream, then you can buy a dream yacht and cruise the world with the family lol.
Even stop off here hahaha.

Yeah, but it's a strength because at least one of us can sing lol.
Just in case we have to sing for our supper lol.

0

LOL I have seen a photo of you and that's no incentive for people to leave

I don't think the yacht idea would work, Lulu isn't comfortable out on the water, maybe a nice big RV and cruise around the states :)

0

Hahaha, there's a framed portrait of me hanging in the toilet to scare the flies away JJ 🤣

Well then a big RV it shall be, although on that size yacht that you posted, Lulu will not even know that she's on the water 😄

I should put one up of me since Halloween is approaching lol

I would love touring the country in a RV to be honest

Hahaha, nope, the Blue Lizard is a handsome guy lol

Yes, my dream is to travel in a rented MH (Mobile Home) from the Netherlands across Europe stopping off in many countries and then crossing over to the States.
But that will take big bucks and I am far from it lol.

0

Now that would be a trip of a lifetime and keep the dream you never know one day it may come to be, maybe one day we will end up meeting in a RV Mobile home park somewhere somehow ;)

Yes, I keep the dream now already for a number of years JJ.
One of our suppliers did exactly that a two years ago, he took his wife and two sons and rented a rig to travel from Amsterdam, but he only did the Europe leg of the trip.
Cost a bomb, but he is still talking about it.

Just shows me that it can be done!

Hi JJ, sorry for the late reply as I deliberately skipped some messages in order not to end up in the number 1 position on the ELeague again.
I still ended up in the second place, even though I thought that I would be around the 6th place and have now withdrawn my name from the list.

Life to me is not about achievements, but rather just to live a life of peace where I can work in the background. Besides with the amount of chats that I do, I will continue to be in the top three and it's time for others to get in there.

I will still continue to reply and chat tom most of the comments that I get, but the pressure is now off my back.

Oh! And I will certainly hang onto that dream my friend!

Blessings!

No worries and I saw your spot in the league

And that’s why I dropped off the league for a while as I was in the top three to regularly and to let others have those spots

Nowadays I bounce around in the top 20 and that’s good for me

So life continues and we all just carry on doing what we are doing lol.

Indeed folks are in such a hurry, they miss out on the simple but fun things of life. As for me, I like to take my time. Being in a hurry is a hassle.

Firstly, thank you for popping in here Sir,

I used to be in that same rush when I was younger, told by some that I had an incredible drive within and it was that same drive that created some of our charity's greatest successes.
But there comes a time in our lives that we have to sit down and consider our ways. Since then, I have become a tortoise that inspects everything intensely 🙂
And my quality of life is so much better for it.

You are totally correct, as rushing about is indeed a hassle and it's the chasing of the wind that wears one out!
