Traveling to visit another town.

We were at the edge of the winelands and my previous posts have shown our base camp.
IMG_3953.jpg

We spent two days at a bush tented lodge and as usual we wanted to explore the area and a few farming towns. In this post, we were traveling from Robertson to Montagu, and you can see the town of Montagu Here

I have also included a link for you to see the Robertson area Here

At first we had to drive across this multi dollar bridge at the small town of Ashton on the way to the mountain pass that leads to the town called Montagu.
IMG_3875.JPG

Now I am not much of a town photographer, as I rather prefer to show the roads, the passes and the landscapes.
IMG_3880.JPG

IMG_3887.JPG

IMG_3883.JPG

They say that if you cannot go around the mountain, then go through the mountain.
IMG_3885.JPG

Out on the other side, the sky had a lovely blue color.
IMG_3894.JPG

As usual a church dominates the town, but I saw something else that I have never seen before,
IMG_3931.JPG

Two trees were packed with live Sacred Ibis birds.
In this photo below a male Ibis was having a go at a female at the right hand side and the two guys at the left were encouraging him.
IMG_3920.JPG

Now when I say that the trees were packed with birds, there were hundreds of them.
IMG_3896.JPG

Then it was time to go again and we were on our way back.
IMG_3946.JPG

Some council workers were water spraying the growth at the side of the roads and I think that it gets done for the growth to secure the ground in order to avoid rock falls.
IMG_3948.JPG

Finally we were over the pass and back on the open road again.
IMG_3964.JPG

I could have placed 50 photos in here, but it would be a very long post, so I only selected these photos to give you a basic idea about the beauty that is available to us in this country.

Each town or city has things of attraction and its own uniqueness. Sadly, we had friends in Montagu that were booked at a hot spring and we wanted to visit them in order to have a swim in the hot pools, but it didn't work out as the place that they were staying has a ban on day visitors.
I think it is in order to avoid the general public of the town streaming to the hot springs.

Now I don't know if I like this idea of banning day visitors, simply because nature is meant for everyone and nobody should try to own nature. We have many of these cases where private ownership of the land denies visitors access and I don't think that is right.
So we could not get to the hot springs and it was a bit sad.

And That's All Friends.

Wow, such a beautiful landscape (and I thought my country was mountainous) 😅. Those arches also look super sketchy to me, I wouldn't feel comfortable being under those. Nope. 😂

Thanks for sharing. 🍻

Thank you and thankfully we have many mountains here in South Africa. Those arches have lasted for many years and we have some great teams that work on road safety in the province.
There have been a few rock falls, but things were soon stabilized again. It is however the storm winds that cannot be controlled.

My father was a very good rock-climber and I do a bit too sometimes, so I know Montagu quite well and love it there!

Great to see and the specialist doctor that treats my arterial blockages, is also a rock climber.
Too finicky for me with all of the anchors and cables, as I am one of those that when I want to get up high, I simply blunder my way up :)

Great that you know Montagu and the next time that we go there, I will make sure that I can get a dip in one of the hot springs.

Passes and drives around the Cape are stunning in rock formations.

I totally agree natural hot springs should not be closed off to general public, same as beaches or mountains, there for all to enjoy!

So right and we have done a few, but the intention is to do most of the passes.
Right on, but the problem is that the general public bring with them littering, loud music, drunken fights and a lot of other human problems. People are just destructive and most of our public toilets can attest to the wanton destruction and the filth.
So it is a 20/20 situation.

Agree people who cannot leave a place the way they would like to find it, problematic everywhere. Perhaps a fee would be more appropriate, or as in your case visiting people already staying there.

A rather nasty experience, as we felt very bad about not being allowed to access the hot springs.
Marian's two aunts were staying there for two days and they invited us for a visit, so you can imagine how they felt when told that no day visitors were allowed. Sick!

If they were in residence that is very wrong by the owners, one cannot expect people not to discuss that type of reaction.

Lesson learned, never support them in future !LUV to you and hope you settling down a little more now after the break.

I also think that it is wrong and it should never be allowed, no matter who claims to own the place.

They will hear from us make no mistake.
Yep! All settled down and on the go again. We have an 8pm power cut today and Monday we will have 3 powers cuts per day again for the whole week.

We have to be extra careful who we assist of late, so many drug addicts taking food selling to make money for their habits. Very dodgy things happening in our area, one is reluctant to give over the gate as we have done for many years.

Sadly one has to keep donations going through NGO/NPO's, churches or local community support groups.

We learned that lesson in the early years of the Papillon charity Lady Joan. I can tell you some cleverly invented scam stories that will make you very angry, but we have put it behind us in gratitude for the lessons.
The saddest thing is that we lost volunteer staff when they discovered that they fell for a scam story and lost their money. Some of them even said that they will stop giving to "poor" people because their money gets spent on drugs.

It is best to rather give to the ones that you mention, as everyone that has been in the charity fields have the experience to avoid the cons. So you know that your money will be used for the correct purposes.

Some characters really skimming people out there today, sadly older folk fall for it not knowing this ugly side of life.

Those who are honestly seeking assistance will find it in the right places.

That's exactly the problem, as the elderly are seen as soft targets. Some of the scanners specialize in conning the old people and that makes my blood boil.

For sure, but they have to beware, as at times even they are conned.

Were the birds encouraged to stay there by the locals? I think they and the magnificent church are a perfect match :) ...

Perhaps they should open up the hot springs to day visitors, and ask for donations for the upkeep of the place in return

No idea what the situation is but will for sure investigate the next time that we go there :)
Sacred Ibis and Church certainly sounds like they sing the same song.

I think that donations would be a good idea, but that donations should be made compulsory, as that would keep the bad elements out.

I see you guys have Dacia Dusters in there(second pic). Did you know these are Romanian cars?

Oh, and I like that old red Golf. Highly reliable cars. These are starting to appreciate in price a lot in here as they get older.

We have them , but over here they are called Renault Dusters, due to the French and Romanian partnership.

The Golf's are also very popular over here due to the appreciation in price.
Now I see that you like cars and I will soon do a post about a Moto Musuem that we visited on this trip.
