Very handsome guy.

This flamboyant guy is the smallest and the best singer of the Songbirds here in South Africa.

Today we will have a look at the Southern Red-Collared Sunbird (Cynnirys chalybeus).

Our Palm tree fruits (dates) are now ripe and we have some birds eating the fruits every day. This morning I spotted our little sunbird also joining the mousebirds in the tree and it was great to get this little flighty bird on camera again.
Come and have a look.

I saw the sunbird when he arrived to inspect the scene at the palm tree.
The yellow color on his wings signify that he is still a youngster.

This must be what he saw as the Mousebirds were partying in the palm tree.

I was amazed, as the sunbird drank the nectar from the spot where the Mousebirds removed the fruits.

Of course he saw me way down below the tree.

He gave me another look and then he was gone.

These little birds never sit for long, as the flit and fly all over like butterflies, but their song is indeed fabulous to hear.

Here is some more information about this lovely bird,

The southern double-collared sunbird or lesser double-collared sunbird (Cinnyris chalybeus) is a small passerine bird which breeds in southern Africa. It is mainly resident, but partially migratory in the north-east of its range.

Africa is so rich with various species. It's amazing how nature is so unique.
This little one is handsome indeed, also... have you noticed how he is mottled with all the colors that are on your official country flag, so cool.

Thank you and yes Africa is a haven of wildlife.
Now that you mention it, I haven't even noticed how the bird's colors matches our country flag.
Thank you for mentioning this.

Cheers and !BEER

Indeed he is very handsome. Look at how he matches with the flower and the sky in the first photo. Stunning!

Thank you and that's why I made that the first photo.
Today I got a different type of sunbird at the sea and will show him soon in a post.

So colorful and handsome indeed. It is hard taking photos of birds. You wouldn't know how long they will stay. A little distraction would send them flying away.

Thank you kindly for the visit and yes, stillness and quick action gets me the birds.
Luckily that I trained by taking photos of dragonflies, as that taught me how to get fast moving birds.

Blessings and hope that your weekend will be good.

Illusive sure they shy, extremely camera shy, trying to capture a couple of late, not quite so glamorous, alas too fast and they gone!

Interesting witnessing drinking the nectar from where berries were removed, perhaps another frequent day visitor Stephen.

Have a wonderful evening.

Got a heap of them this morning Lady Joan and from 9am to 10am is the hot hour at the palm tree.
I still cannot get the flash right on the Canon and will hopefully sort it out on Monday for the bats at midnight.

This was the best that I could get last night.
